General Discussion / Re: Free Steam keys!
Wed 08/11/2023 15:48:50
Just popped in to give out 3 Steam keys for Burnhouse Lane! I'm not making games with AGS anymore but this used to be my home and it's nice to give something back to the community!

I hope you guys enjoy! Take care and keep on making great adventure games! ;)

Any plans for a DRM-free release, so we're not forced to install steam?

GOG always felt strange to me - I'm a sworn Steam person myself, I never use GOG. I remember you were always the opposite, and I respect that! And sure, I'll try to put it on GOG if they'll have me but with me being new to publishing... it might take a little longer than before ;)

Hey AGS community!

I used to visit this place every day... but then I switched to Unity and got very busy making games and... you know. Life! But I thought I'd pop in to show you what I've been up to. My upcoming game Burnhouse Lane just received a Steam Store page and since I'm doing my own publishing these days (screen7 decided to focus on ther own projects) the plan is to promote the shit out of it ;) And I'm very proud of this one! It would mean a lot if you guys could take a look and maybe hit that wishlist button if you like what you're seeing. Those of you who remember The Cat Lady and Downfall should feel right at home with Burnhouse Lane.

Hope your're all well and still making awesome adventure games!

That moment when the trailer starts with "a politician has been assassinated" and you go "YES!" ;)

Stay on topic, please.
This thread is about Mark's (Mods) current whereabouts.

I thought it was Mark's roast? Who can be most horrible to him?

But I think we have a clear winner already! ;)

Gooooood! ;)

Thanks for the comments, guys!

Two things - it's not an AGS (it's Unity) and the screen is pretty big.

The other - I don't live in the US but EU. Will that still be ok?

Guys, please let me know if it's OK to use cut-up royalty free video in a scene in a game where you can basically watch TV and switch between channels (like in Heavy Rain when the kid is watching cartoons).

I've been thinking about using this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_f2Enn8x5s&list=PLQHC0V7PP5uCxyTt5tlhM4pskJchzuZwN&index=3

Obviously, I'd just loop 2 minutes of it, or so.

Will I get sued?

Just bear in mind that when an alcoholic will have to choose between the drink and the friendship... they will probably choose the drink.

Number three grabbed my attention the most.

I'd probably hire you, given your experience and proven dedication, for the next Unity3D game I make if we could agree on a reasonable salary and the thought of remote working on a project in two different parts of the world didn't frighten me so much. I have to finish Lorelai first... but then I'll be working on something in a different genre of games and will need someone much smarter than me. Still, is this something you would consider in the future?

I'd like to use this opportunity to also say thank you to AGS. And by that, I mean all the people that worked on making it, updating it, adding to it and everyone in the community that's ever given advice or feedback.

I mean, I'm using Unity these days... but I will always be grateful for AGS. This is my roots. This is my humble beginnings! I wouldn't be where I am now without it, that's for sure! ;)

the third chapter of Downfall isn't yet released, despite its success as well as the success of The Cat Lady

It's coming along very nicely! 70% complete!!! ;) (I realize it brings nothing to the discussion though ;) )

But to actually bring something to this discussion, I'd say that I think it's time to move on and explore mixing genres. Lorelai is probably the last "adventure game" that I make. Not for financial reasons, cos I seem to have found my fanbase that enjoy it, but... tastes change over time. Games these days should offer that THRILL that's often missing in real life. Where's the thrill in pointing and clicking? Well, I suppose you can find it, if you really engage yourself in a p&c game, but that takes a lot of time and effort. And certainly a lot of people will be lost before that happens...

Even Dave, the hardcore p&c veteran is moving towards shifting genres, adding RPG elements to his new game, which I think is a great move.

The thing is, we all came here out of love for our Monkey Islands and Space Quests and so on, and we've tried to recreate them the way they've remained in our memories. But what's the point, really? It's like trying to wear a medieval armour and pretending the trends in fashion have not changed. Sure, you will feel the sense of pride and achievement, but after a while you'll realize you're not very comfortable at all... and that people are sorta avoiding you ;)

Ehem, in chapter 3 of The Cat Lady, Susan picks up a blue cup and makes coffee in it. It's used as an inventory item. It kinda sticks out as most backgrounds/inventory in that part of the game are black & white ;)
#18
Well, how about this? It's still quite unpolished, but I'd like some opinions from you guys.

#19
Well, I guess that sums it up ;) Goodbye "Bleeding Cowboys". I loved you so... but so did everyone else.

Yeah, someone else mentioned the font before... I guess I ought to do something about it, before it's too late ;)

It's still WIP but these things tend to stick...
