Adding 3d to AGS is a great idea, but why Direct3D.
It wouldn't be beter to use OpenGL3D instead???.
OpenGl will make AGS cross-platform with will increase community and mor popular.
I'm also suggest to use some cross-platform open source 3D engine like this one:
