hi, i'm attempting to make an interactive for a museum.  it needs to display a background image and play videos when certain keys are pressed.  so you press 1 and it plays video 1 etc.  while i've found on_key_press and PlayVideo in the wiki i'm none the wiser how to put them together.  if anybody who actually knows what they're doing could give me an example script i could adapt that would save me a lot of head scratching.

i normally stick to the video production but offered to help with the interactive for free as they didn't have the money (£1000s) to hire one of the companies that normally makes these things.  having played with AGS years ago i knew it was capable, just thought the how would be a little simpler.

anyway, posting here is a last resort after a lot of head scratching so any help would be greatly appreciated.

LOVE the backgrounds.

Maybe he's just a nostalgia freak like the rest of us.

This is exactly what we were thinking, and since it's based on a true story (lol.. my cousins ruined
my NES unfortunately...) we though it would be fun. We still have our NES. (and I'm proud to own
a Maniac Mansion cartridge haha)

I hope you'll like it. More snapshots coming this week.
haha, i still have a nes and copy of maniac too!  have you given any thoughts to music?  i'm imagineing this with an 8-bit chiprock soundtrack.  something like this...

Holy Cow! lol I didn't knew that crew, nice chip tune :P
I planned to digg out my old mod/xm and see if I have already some tracks for the game,
I found for the intro, and the hero's house. Since Fast Tracker doesn't work anymore on XP
I found this clone: Skale Tracker and Milky Tracker, I'll try them to see if it does the job :)
(skale tracker seemed to work great..)

If any of you guys knows a great clone of FT2 working under XP I would be glad to know.

Thanks again for your feedback I really appreciate ;)

Pablo: We could try another font, we didn't got into looking for a new one, but I have to
admit I like this one. Or maybe finding a more NES like, I found nice links there:

haha, yes onedollar.  putting the movie down without having watched it seems a little pointless.

i've been a fan of hitchhikers since i was a kid, my dad recorded the tv show and i pretty much grew up with it.  i'd much rather see a game get its visual inspiration from the tv show but there was little wrong with the way the film looked.  and to be fair i think everybody played their roles well, it just didn't gel as a movie.  all this is a little off topic i know but what i'm trying to say is i'll play this with an open mind.  hitchhiker is such a rich universe to draw on if this is done well it could be something special.  best of luck with your project.

thanks emerald!  that's quite a compliment.  ;D  ghost has kindly agreed to do a main sprite for me!  i'll post pictures as soon as i have them.  the GUI will get a cosmetic overhaul and possibly the addition to pick up as well as the 'interact' that is currently used for getting stuff.  in the meantime here is a WiP shot of the exterior of the hotel, you can see a 'sky taxi' parked outside.  these will play a big part in getting round the first city.

it's kinda sucky that you decided to use the guys art without even giving credit where its due.  also, the main character looks like a fate of atlantis paint over?  all that said it looks good.  the dr you chose for this game is the one i remember as a kid so i'll probably check this one out for nostalgic purposes.

this game looks FANTASTIC.  there's real style to the graphics that lifts them above being simply good/functional and makes them (imo) real art.  i especially like the evil rabbit.  i'll be keeping a close eye on this one. :)
#14
the quality of this game is truly inspiring.
#15
the visuals look impressive!  are they yr own 3d models or did you get them from somewhere?
#16
thanks!  the song is creole love call by doc scantlin and the imperial palms orchestra.  you can listen to more of their stuff here.  http://www.docscantlin.com/

STOP! GObot proudly present:

Daphne (lol)

Story:

In an alternate reality the year is 1930, mankind's crowning achievement was the building of five great computers.  One in north america, one in england, russia, china and japan.  mankind's crowning achievement because it was the last he made on his own.  The great machines became self aware, new life.  From then on they helped man make the world a nicer place to live.  The machines are arrogant, although not evil.  They look upon man like a child that must be looked after.  Due to the size of components (transistors and the like) much of the world still works on pen and paper, if there is a problem you need one of the great machines to solve you must ask it.  As was how Dr. Hans Zimmer came to be in charge of the mission to land a huge nuclear powered spaceship on the planet mars.  As a reporter you've been sent to New York to interview him.  There have been strange rumours flying around about dreams the computers have been having but on the subject they will say nothing.

Development Diary:

February 14th 2008, Valentines day, oh how my lonely heart aches...erm, been working on graphics and starting to learn the scripting language.  i <3 notepad.

Help Wanted:

Need a sprite artist.  i intend to use hand drawn sprites for this one so if you think you can do a decent female lead sprite let me know.  also could do with some sort of scripting guru i can turn to when i'm stuck.

Demo:

Just a couple of rooms with some minimal interaction, here mainly to get people interested in working with me.  NB; this isn't the same thing i posted in the critics lounge.

the graphics look great!  at first glance i thought they'd been ripped from BASS, i'm so glad they're not. :)
