General Discussion / Re: Moho Pro
Tue 06/03/2018 17:07:17
I use MoHo for a lot of the commercial and corporate animated films i do at my dayjob. It's weird for the first few days but once you got the hang of it, you pretty much know the entire software. The only thing left is, when you want to do some advanced rigging stuff but that's the same in any rig-based software ;) Luckily by now there are a lot and quite nice tutorials out there for MoHo.

Just one thing: the team that originally developed MoHo including the original programmer and inventor, have been laid off last year. They've been substituted by outsourced teams and development of the software slowed down considerably since then. It's really a huge shame, since it was all looking very bright and development and bug fixes were very frequent.

The only other 2D Animation software i kinda like is Toon Boom but if you're interested in Vector-Rigbased characters, nothing comes close to Moho.

Hope this helps ;)

Hey @Mandle !

Thanks for your very thoughtful and great feedback. Definitely something to take into account :) Funnily enough, she does actually have a "hurt" state for her portrait so that would be an easy fix. The idea about the blood trail going into the woods is also very good!

She will be having a phone (working on it atm actually) but, in true Slasher Movie fashion, there will be a reason as to why she can't just simply call the police ;)

Glad you like it so far and thanks again!

Hi everybody! Long time no see :D Well after some hiatus, Purgatory picked up development full-speed (at least, as far as this is possible next to a fulltime job) last October and we're making good progress! Check out the original Post for the beautiful, overhauled Background Art by Matt Frith and the new Character Sprites and Animation by myself.

Also, i just launched my new website (finally!!) with all the information you'd ever need about the game. A Trailer will hopefully produced in the next few months. In the meantime, please have a look at www.joelmayer.io and like us on Twitter, Insta or Facebook for all future Updates :)

I'll also make sure, to post here from time to time when there's something newsworthy going on :D Hope you like it and thanks!

Hey wow thanks for the very positive responses :)

QuoteThe aesthetics are nice, but the scale seems a little off when you compare the character to the background, the furniture looks huge.

Otherwise, a group of young friends trapped in a haunted house may not be a very original premise, but having the heroine confront demons from her past sounds like an intriguing twist.

Yeah with such a small resolution it's even harder getting scales right because i always want to draw a lot of details but shouldn't really because that demands more pixels :-[ Duly noted :)

Yeah, it's really a total clichéd premise but i'm trying to give it my own spin and hopefully make my very personal version of this often-seen trope (kinda what Quentin Tarantino does to Genre Films ;) ) . Thank you!

QuoteLooks great. Really nice pixel art.
My only complaint would be her stereotypical and highly unnatural bosom/cleavage, but hey...

Thank you!

********UPDATE 2018:**********

New Website, new Art, new everything! Check out the progress of the Game here: www.joelmayer.io :)

Hi there!

Forgive me for posting here, even though i'm a Construct 2 user, but in my eyes there is no better community for these kind of games (or similiar) than on your forums :)

So allow me to present my Game, "Purgatory" on which i'm currently working and i'm hoping to present something by AdventureX 2017 ;)

Story:

When Alex and her boyfriend Dennis as well as their friends Cynthia and Marc are on their way back from a wild night out partying, they get in a car accident on a lonely country road in the middle of a forest. Alex awakes in the wrecked car, her friends: gone. There's no choice but to travel deeper into the woods, looking for them. Finally, she reaches an old mansion, and it gets clear pretty quickly, that some evil force has captivated the rest of the group. Through her cell phone she receives cries for help and eerie messages from an unknown number. Alex has to uncover the dark secrets that happened within these walls before the night is over, if she ever wants to see her friends, and most of all, Dennis, again. But the former inhabitants of the house are not the only ones with an unsettling past and Alex will have to face not just the demons ahead but also the ones she left behind…

The game isn't going to be a typical point and click and to be honest, i was more influenced by SNES titles and stuff like "Home", "Lone Survivor" and Rem Michalski's Games.

You will definitely be able to die in this and sometimes there will be more than one solution to a puzzle. But anyway, let me just present you the first few screens i did ;)

Let me know what you think :) I hope to get some more Backgrounds finished this week. The Design is 98% complete, there is 24 Backgrounds and around 9 Characters. I hope i can make it happen and would love to hear your feedback!

Thanks again and cheers!

Joel

Hi Guys

There appears to be a french speaking Developer who's working on this:

I just recently joined the Facebook Group and he posted an Update so it's in active Development. Have you ever heard of this one?

Thanks Grim! I'll look into that. Gosh looks really awesome! I like the Character Designs. May i ask what your animator is using as a software? I'm guessing something like After Effects :)

Gee, thanks everyone for the Feedback and the thoughts and efforts you put into them :) Some things i had already noted myself but i have to refine my character rig first before i can do things like foot rolls etc and the stride length is definitely too short.

Thank you :)

Hi Guys... Let me show you what i've been working on:

Animated in Toon Boom Harmony. Not perfect yet though, her left leg is falling apart but i already know how to fix that. I'm thinking of using AGS as my Engine after all, but i wanted to ask: is it very difficult to build a Cat Lady like Interface, where you control the Character just walking from left to right via Keyboard Inputs? Thanks a ton!

This has probably been asked a lot already, but is it hard to set up these kind of sidescrolling mechanics in AGS? I would love to do a Game like this as well...

Looks great btw! Big fan!

Thanks guys, i really appreciate it!

QuoteBut i think the cartoony character is not too scary.

That's true. She's not supposed to be a scary character though, rather she GETS scared haha. But yeah, i agree the Art Style is not the most gruesome one but it's just the way i draw. I try to do my best with the "other things..." :)

QuoteHer foot might be angled a bit wrong, and the back of her knee seems twisted, due to that one line stretching too far across towards the knee. Her back is too arched. It looks like her back is broken. But otherwise, I like her.

Thank you! I agree with everything :) I'll work on her quite some more until i'm satisfied and start animation.

Hi Guys

After spending months on my Design Doc, i produced a first spec Background with my Character WIP. The Game is a Horror Adventure, in the veign of "Clock Tower" amongst others... I'm using Visionaire as an Engine but i hope it's allright when i show you guys this stuff anyway, because in my eyes the AGS Community is the best Adventure Development Forum there is!

If not, just let me know...

Anyhow, i'm using Photoshop and Adobe Flash for Backgrounds/Character Animation respectively. I'm not THAT skilled of a Painter and i'll probably redo it because its a bit too smeary for my tastes but i hope it gives you a good Idea of the direction i'm trying to go...

Hi Guys

It seems i post in this forum every year with ONE new Game Asset :D With this speed it'll only take me 4000 more years of posting till it's finished.

Anyways, i attempted pixel art again and even though it's not perfect (the shoe color is awful), i think i slowly get the hang of it :)

It's for a Horrorgame so i wanted to make sure that her standing position still has some kind of uneasiness in her face.

Lemme know what you think!

Hey Guys

I'm working on this character who's the protagonist of my next game. I want to go for a 640 x 480 resolution, since it gives me the amount of detail that i want to go for in the sprites.

I'm okay at drawing but reading all the pixel art tutorials i could find online it really is an artform with great many rules, which i probably am forgetting about or break or anything...

Anyways it would be great if some of the more experienced spriters amongst you could take a look at my character and maybe give me some advice about what to consider, before i start animating her.

It's for a horror game by the way :)

Thanks a ton! Love all your work!

Hi Densming!

I wanna thank you also for the great tutorial series!

I have a question though: to follow the tutorial it would be best to have all the artwork (sprites, etc.) to go along with the sample game. Can they be downloaded anywhere? Did i miss something?

Thanks and i hope you'll continue with the Videos one day :)

I pledged for this project! I'll get the Pro-Version, when it comes out. Would it be hard to develop a Plugin for AGS? It would be perfect!!!
