General Discussion / Re: I have a dream
Thu 15/05/2008 10:01:38
I have very vivid dreams, but I barely remember them.  The ones I do remember have no rhyme or reason as to why I remember them.

I once dreamt that I was in a world that looked exactly like the movie Tron, and I was being chased by a bunch of Tron looking men.

Another dream had me sitting on a pier, with my back facing the ocean.  I was looking at the building in front of me for no apparent reason, and I had a concealed scalpel.  A thug came up to me and demanded my wallet.  I very shyly brandished my scalpel from a sitting position.  Suddenly, the thug looked surprised, then impressed.  He said I could keep my wallet, and commented on the impressiveness of my scalpel.  Then he left, and I continued to look at the building, somewhat shaken.

I once dreamt that I was flying through what appeared to be a surrealistic art piece designed in a 3d modeling program from the mid nineties.  The world was composed entirely of simple shapes, such as the sphere, cone, cube, and it was roughly textured with poor lighting.  I flew into a cube, which opened into a spacious room with a marble statue in the middle.  The statue opened her mouth and I flew inside at breakneck speed.  It suddenly grew dark and I awakened with a start.

General Discussion / Re: Baby fever solutions?

My wife is due to give birth to our first baby this July.  She has wanted a baby since she was 13.  Some people want to be astronauts, some famous game designers, my wife wants to be a mother, and now she is very close to seeing her wildest dream come true.

The decision to have children was a no-brainer for my wife, but I wasn't so sure at first.  I tend to weigh the situation before making a decision like that, and after a lot of thought, I decided I wasn't getting any younger, and I was ready to be a father.  We began trying, and by the next month, we discovered that we were going to be parents.

In making this decision, we didn't factor in global population.  We didn't worry about children without parents, or couples unable to have children.  Our decision was based solely on our own desire to procreate, and whether we had the resources in order to raise a child.  There is nothing more natural than wanting to pass on your own blood.  It's ingrained into our very being, and it's stronger than concerns over global population.

It's a boy, and we're naming him Lucas.  Add one digit to the population count.

Greetings from far-northern California!

I'm Bondo, and I'm originally from Ogden, Utah, but I've lived in California for so long that I consider myself a bona-fide Californian anyway.

I've played with Adventure Game Studio off and on since way back when it was known as Adventure Creator, and had a DOS based design interface.  I've never really made anything of note with it, except for an adventure game styled portfolio for school.  You walked the default character around an "art museum", and when you looked at a piece, it would display it full screen.

My game design "career" has lately been spoiled by the likes of RPG Maker 200x.  I've finally came to the realization that adventure games are what I grew up with, and adventure games are what I want to create.  The first game idea I ever had was a Sierra style adventure game, yet I've never created one.  Well, I'm a lot older now, and I have the resources... I have the technology.  It's time to get back to what I meant to do in the first place.

I used to rely on the interaction editor, so I need to learn scripting from the ground up, as I see it's been removed entirely.  I'm all for this decision.  It makes for a cleaner, more professional interface.  I've had experience with other scripting engines, namely The Elder Scrolls series modding, Megazeux, and Game Maker.  I've seen some AGS code, and I feel confident that I can make it work.

I like to barbecue anything and everything.  I don't draw the line at meat.  You haven't lived until you've eaten barbecued asparagus, barbecued then steamed from it's own heat under some aluminum foil on a plate, with a little butter.  Or corn, barbecued husk and all.  Even zucchini and squash is fantastic barbecued.  If you can eat it, I can barbecue it.

I take my tea either plain, or with a little milk and sugar, depending on my mood.

I was once a beer drinker, but I've given up the habit entirely.  I don't smoke either.

This isn't my first time on these forums.  Years and years ago, I was a child, and posted under the name "Chocobomonkey", which is a name I don't understand today.  I just kind of stuck two things together and called it an internet handle.  The other name, I don't remember.
