Hey all,
I guess you could consider me a kinda touch and go AGSer... I like the idea of making my own game but excecuting it was too daunting and i lost interest..or..i lost a good chunk of material i was working on and had to start from scratch..and my interest might wane. But, here I am again, with renewed at least for now, vigor. First question i have is game related.. i know an adventure game is supposed to be strongly story driven, thus one has to be at least adept at telling a good story. Also it has to drive the imagination, there has to be a hook within the first 5 minutes.. i know when i play a commercial adventure game.. i really like to get into the story within the first 5 minutes.. i digress. well, i figured, any good author(or in this game, adventure game maker) writes what about what they know. So i ask...is it "doable" to make a game based somewhat loosely on one's own life experiences.. if not make the author the player character? If i make it interesting enough? Ihave an idea that in the beginning of the game.. the character gets into a car crash(which really happened to me) and is knocked back 6 years and wakes up in all places, Shanghai China, reliving the trip he took before (yes, i actually was in China in 2007). The plot could be how to get home when i dont speak very much chinese, and i learn more as I go along, and i need to find certian items in order to get home (passport, money, etc). And when i get home, its still 2007, and i need to get back to 2013... does this sound like a game someone would want to play? Also, a question about the techical execution of the game. Theres no point in denying it, i am not a graphic artist.. so in order to make a game, i have had the idea of relying on capturing realtime images of the real world ( my house, room etc) and me walking around etc to convert to scaled down bitmapts and sprites for backgrounds. If i put enogh effort into it, would this be something that would be acceptable in any style of adventure game? if i make myself look cartoonish enough and hte backgrounds cartoonish enough? I really do want to make my own game.. i had an idea of a space adventure, but that seems overdone and all the ideas i had about that were taken from established generes,..but the china thing is complety my own. Plus i can use my own images as reference for sprites without having to worry about infrignements.. any comments are welcome..
