A game artist's opinion about both. Deviantart has some good tutorials, although so far, every time I've looked for 3D-related tutorials on google or dA, the results are mostly 3Dsmax resources. So based on the fact that there are possibly (??) more 3dsmax resources out there for a beginner, that's what I'd learn first.

I use Blender and Sketchup, but then... only for reference for my illustrations/digital paintings, not professionally (or meant for games).

I'm an artist/digital painter. Can do:

Character Art
Sketches, comic-bookish portraits, costume designs, anything in that vain.

Background Art
My strength is in fantasy, Classical or somewhat surreal scenes.

PMing should get a pretty speedy response. :) Every now and then I get busy (exams, tests, other projects, etc), but I can usually manage an hour or two of drawing a day.

May 18, 2010 -- At this time, I can't take any more "free" requests.

Thanks! When I get a chance I think I'll expand it into a panning background so that the player can climb the tree as well as walk a little ways over and see the next building instead of just an awkward gap on the left-hand portion of the screen.

Wow.. that changes the whole thing... thank you!

While I'm painting in photoshop instead of pixelling (I can't.. I suck at it), I'm only using a few colors (brown, red, black, green).

Also, I don't like the two orthogonals making a point at the edge of the picture plane... it was supposed to be a decorative line of bricks, but doesn't look like it. And the dark side of the building foreshortens too abruptly, so I'll make the vanishing point farther away. The trees in the background aren't finished and the texture on the building is supposed to be old, plaster cracked in places to reveal brick underneath.

Also, the building to the far left doesn't really read, so I'm thinking of getting rid of it or attaching it to the main building.

Okay, think that's all I can see at the moment. Any c&c is helpful, especially as far as suggestions go for any of the above, since I'm kinda stuck.

There would most likely be a little light on the ceiling, shaped a bit like the lighting on the floor, but not as strong because sunlight is presumably shining down on the palace.

The lighting on the columns seems as if it should be backlit, like the brown triangular objects in the foreground. So dark shadows would cover the majority of the cylinders (and would be rectangular rather than circular in shape.)

For potential reference, and if you aren't happy with the shape of the pillars, I'd wiki the Palace of Knossos from the Minoan civilization. Your concept and the frescos kinda remind me of it (in a good way....)

largopredator isn't the only one; I love the Dialog Designer. :) And I definitely appreciate the undo/redo function. Thanks for the great tool!

In a run cycle, there is typically one frame where both feet are in the air before the forward foot touches ground.

Hiya, folks.

I'm a 19-year-old illustration student. I actually joined the forums early this year, started writing a game, then started University and shelved everything.

I loved adventure games as a kid and have been interested in art as a storytelling media and games kinda branch into that better than comics did for me, so now I'm designing characters, making background art, animating, and learning how to script. So far tinkering with AGS script isn't too beyond me... yay.
