General Discussion / Just had a game idea...
Fri 07/11/2014 20:49:42
..I'm putting it here as it's pretty much that I just watched a programme on TV about something and my brain went "OMG if that's not the background and setting for an adventure game, it should be" and I ran here to share...

Basically the program follows underground places in Britain, and one of the places they went in this show was the Williamson Tunnels under Liverpool. A rich and slightly eccentric guy, known to be quite religious and a bit paranoid about the apocalypse, built miles and miles of tunnels under his house. Some say it was an act of philanthropy to employ people who would be jobless otherwise, but it contains gothic arches, and is done with such beauty and care it could almost be an underground church...

This is where my Adventure Gamer brain kicks in. Perhaps he wasn't crazy? Maybe he knew the apocalypse WAS coming. Maybe we haven't found all the tunnels and it conceals hidden rooms for a secret cult?!? The mind boggles with the places this COULD go..

Some reading about the real history etc and not my crazy ideas:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Williamson_Tunnels

As I was awesome enough to share this idea, if anyone makes the game, I'd love to be part of it, but I'm a noob so it only felt right to share and not keep it to myself :) Everyone likes a mystery adventure based on some true history in a spooky English city, right? Or maybe I get over excited because I love hidden underground tunnels and abandoned architecture, but I got excited (laugh)

PS if you're in the UK you may be able to watch the programme on demand. It's a Channel 5 programme called Underground Britain, and this was episode 3 of the series.

Dudes. I finally played the GK 1 remake, and it's every bit as awesome as I thought it would be. Fellow adventure Game fans, I urge you to play it!! I also wrote a blog post about it, so read there so I don't have to say it all here again!

Anyone else played it too? What did you think?

A friend of mine is selling a couple games she no longer wants, all on floppies. Monkey Island 2 was in there but got snapped up in seconds (sorry!) but she still needs home for Prince Of Persia 2 The Shadow and The Flame and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis with hint book. They are both boxed and in beautiful condition and I can provide photos on request.

I wouldn't normally post something like this here, (especially as I cried last time I had to sell some of MY games collection on ebay!) but it's quite a niche market to find a home for something on floppies, you need real enthusiasts! And well, where better to look than here, so I said I would ask on her behalf. She is in the UK, so postage will be from here.

If you're interested in either game, send me a message :=

Sorry if this is the wrong section, and I've searched and not found anyone asking this exact question... I'm looking to start doing some artwork for games, first I want to practice in the correct programs before I do anything "proper" but I wondered what software is considered best for making background art?

I've got a trial version of ArtRage, which is beautiful, but I'm not sure if it will be best to make something compatible for an AGS game? I played around making sprites in ProMotion, but really I'd rather make higher quality, less pixelated artwork, more MI2 and SQ4 era graphics. On the whole I don't like Adobe programs as they seem to bloat up my computer with junk, but if Photoshop or Illustrator is best, I'll make sacrifices.

Oh, in case it's not obvious, I'm not a 3D artist, I'm old school paint (with a tablet, so a bit new school!) so I'm not looking for a rendering program.

Any guides, advice or tips I've missed anywhere, are greatly appreciated, and huge apologies if I sound like a total tool.

SORRY I NOW SEE I BROKE A RULE- PLEASE REMOVE AND DON'T KILL ME!!! I'll make you cake! I make good cake!!

General Discussion / Random gloating..

I have just bought myself an entire new computer rig, down to the desk and chair as well. Feeling smug about it. It's an ALIENWARE as well, so teenage me is having an excited fit. This beast: http://www.dell.com/uk/p/alienware-x51-r2/pd?oc=d00ar211&model_id=alienware-x51-r2
Default setup, but I've got two monitors on the way these bad boys. http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&l=en&sku=609020

It's more money than I've ever spent on a computer myself, but I saved up money from my 30th birthday, and some other bits and bobs til I could afford my dream rig, including an awesome Logitech G13 Advanced Gameboard (my husband has one, and it makes him much better than me on World of Warcraft, so I had to get one to beat him!!)

I also started an adventure gaming blog... http://adventuregamegirl.blogspot.co.uk/

The template and stuff needs more faffing with but apparently I've forgotten most of the HTML I learnt.

No real point about this than just wanted to boast to people who knew what I was on about. Hee! It also means I'll have a rig I can do some decent graphics on, finally. On the laptop I'm using right now, it gets unhappy just using ArtRage sometimes :-X
