How can I create shadows under a levitating character, when the distance between the character and the ground sometimes changes?

I'd like to put my character in a giant scrolling orthographic landscape (the game set at 640x400 resolution, but with at least 20 times that size in area) with many items contained within that area.  Is that going to cause problems with AGS or require a very fast computer?

In a room with a strong perspective, is there any way to have the character gradually become smaller as they move closer to the back of the room (top of the screen)?

Is there anyway to create an adventure game with AGS that uses Chinese?  Can it support UTF8 and can I add some Chinese font to the game?
