General Discussion / Bryce 5.0 for free
Wed 23/08/2006 05:49:37
For a limited time, you can get Bryce 5.0 for free on the Daz-webpage. Many people like it for making landscape-backgrounds or even architecture.

(I hope nobody already wrote about this, but a forum search did not show up any results)

Okay, I want to get more serious about pixeling characters. I used a reference cg as a reference for the basic outlines, but I made colouring, shading etc. all by myself. I know the shading is still very basic, but I would like to keep it simple so that the character could possibly be animated. I am also not happy with the face yet... it looks a bit scary to me  :D So I am happy about any advise to improve it a little :)

Critics' Lounge / Teen's Room
Fri 22/07/2005 13:53:54
Hello,
I am working on the background for a teenager-girl's room at the moment and I would appreciate comments on it.
I feel myself I should add some smaller objects. For example, I tried to pixel a teddy-bear and sit it on the bad but it just never turned out to look like a teddy... Any other hints for make the graphic more interesting is very welcome :)

Hello, I hope this has not been posted before, but I just did a search for the title and nothing was found, so hopefully its a new information for you.

A new freeware adventure is ready for download. It's called "White Chamber", and its some kind of spooky anime-style adventure. The makes are British so it must be good  :D

By the way, it was made with Wintermute, so its definetely interesting to take a look I think.

Normally I would not write about bugs here, but the error massage told me to report it to CJ here on the technical forums, so...
I was playing "Stan's Revenge". I brought the garbish outside, used it with the "dog droppings" and wanted to head back into the house, then the game broke up and told me...

General Discussion / Tsunami in Asia
Tue 28/12/2004 14:00:52
There is no conection to AGS, but since this is the website I spend most of my time, I cannot stop myself from posting here...

The Flood in Asia, the more I see on the news about it... trying to imagine the big number of people who died (some consider the possibility of 50,000 people... just died in a few seconds) and not to mention the hundred thousands who lost everything they had, which was surely not much before anyway. How can the father give food to his kids when he lost his fishing boat? Or how is the family going to live when there little field is soaked of salt walter and wont be able to produce any plants for many many many years?
And then I go shopping in Berlin, and see so many people again spending so much money on fireworks for the new years eve. And it makes a little bit angry and very very sad...
Please, everyone, dont buy fireworks this year... send a little help to those who suffer now.

There are many other organisations of course, in other countries too, I just picked a few.

To enter this lovely competition, all you have to do is add speech bubbles and / or other texts to these photos and make it a little comic strip or story. I want fun, love, romance, action, drama and seafood!  :D

Critics' Lounge / Karaoke-Box
Sun 07/11/2004 09:11:46
My next game will involve a Karaoke-Place and here I tried to make that kind of Karaoke-Box which is especially popular in Asia. You rent one single room with a Karaoke-Mashine and enjoy Karaoke with your friends. I am quite happy with what I drew because I am not really a big artist, but I am sure there are some ways even I can improve it :)

Critics' Lounge / Drawing a Grand Piano
Sat 21/08/2004 18:34:56
Hello folksÃ,  :-\

Being really not very talented with graphics I am still drawing the graphics for the next game myself, but now I am at a point where I really would appreciate some help. My little cafe needs a grand piano for the corner.

It should be in the left corner. It should not stop people from using the door so I think some part of it will stick out to the left, maybe even the feet can stick out downwards. Of course the keyboard should be inside the graphic because the pianoman will be part of the puzzle.
I tried to draw it myself, try to copy the outline from photos, tried to use the Maniac-Mansion-Piano as a model... but whatever I do it just does not look like a piano at all. I dont mind my graphics not looking good but... at least everyone should be able to see that it is a piano. Can someone maybe push me in the right directions, with some outlines maybe?

What the...?? Is the new homepage being uploaded and what I see now is just some kind of place-holder...or did someone hack the mainpage???

In this witty little competition, all you have to do is add speech bubbles to the attached sequence of photos to make it a funny or interesting or thrilling or touchy story. I want to laugh, cry and shiver when I see your entries.  ;D

Beginners' Technical Questions / Text width
Sat 20/03/2004 11:50:26
Hello :) Though I don't think I am a beginner anymore, the question seems to be so basic, or I am missing something really stupid, so I put it here...
WHen I have my character talk, the displayed speech stretches over the whole screen, but I don't like it that way. I want it to be put only over his head, using several lines if the text is too long. How can I set the maximald width (or length? I mean the maximal x-value-extension) of speech r displayed text?

Hello PSP-giants and genius' out there :) I have a strange problem about Paint Shop Pro...
I have an image which contains a transparent background (I think its transparent, because the check-board-pattern is showing up) and I use the export-png-optimizer-function, where I set "alpha channel transparency" with "existing image or layer transparency". But the new created image does not have an alpha channel... it does not recognize any alpha channel transparency in AGS and I cannot load a selection from alpha channel in PSP either, so I must be doing something wrong @.@ Does someone know what I am doing wrong?

In this competition, your goal is to add text to the speech and/or thought bubbles to add a story behind the comic. You can make it funny, serious, or whatever, but try to keep it reasonably clean and intelligent. I tried not to use too crazy photos this time. Instead I used photos showing a real conersation between two girls, so it's up to you to decide what they are actually talking about:

After the infamous game "Lucy Lavender" I am proud to announce my second game "Fan Club" (dadadadaaaa):

Aldo Akel got it all: All her CDs, all her photo books, all her posters and even her official t-shirt. Now he came to the big city for the very first time with just one thing on his mind: Meeting his idol, the famous singer Brittany Fears. The local Brittany Fears Fan Club has a party and one of the guests will have a chance to win a cruise together with Brittany. Of course Aldo wants to be the one. But his problems start already at the entrance. It's not easy to get a membership card of this exquisite club...

In this game I try to do what I have learnt from my mistakes I did in my first game. All backgrounds are drawn by myself. Since I am not a great artist the backgrounds are rather simple, but still I am proud they are my own work this time. I might do some improvements still in case I understand how to work with gradients...  ;)
There will not be any mean pixel hunting anymore. I use poser for the characters. Due to the fact that the game will be in 320-240 revolution and a special use of lights in poser, I hope they will not look too "poserish" for the player.
I will refrain from using the standard Sierra gui.

My progress: The story and the puzzles are finished 100%. I might add some more in case my friends who will beta-test it for me later tell me the game is too short overall. Same thing for the backgrounds: For the story so far all backgrounds are drawn, only in case people suggest to make the game longer I would draw some more. The main characters walking and talking cycles are ready too. I want to create some more animations for him which will be used for special situation Aldo encounters within the game. The other characters are sort of scetched, but not animated yet. I will start working hardly on Fan Club again after I finished my exams in the middle of february. I will release a German and an English version, this time I will have a native English speaker check the spelling and grammar though.

****Edit 08 FEB*****
Although we should not talk too much about it at that point, I am still experimenting with the gradients...

******EDIT March 13******

New walkg-cycle without "falling asleep head banging" and quicker movement.

More leading and supporting characters
******EDIT March 16******
Two screenies, a new one and an improved one of the version before... I think I am going to stay with this style...

I hope you like that so far and will be playing Fan Club this spring (or summer...lol).

Hi everyone,
I am working on my new game and I don't want to use the classical gui, rather using a simple point and click control, using just the left and the right button of the mouse. One button should be for look at and the other one should be for all kinds of interactions. But I can't really decide which one should be left and which one should be right. So what do you think? Which of the two ways would be most enjoyable for you?

Hello,
ist there some way to disable any mouse function? I know how to make the mouse pointer invisible, but still when clicking, it will do some reaction at the place where its on the screen. Is there some quick way to include something like a "if any mouseclick - do nothing" code?

Hello you most honorable and beloved experts of paint shop pro... let's say I have made the graphics of my characters. its the little man and around him is the pink background. Now I can try to cut him out by hand or by the box, but is there any funktion which allows me to cout out everything except the background in one step, so I could paste it as a new graphic having excact the height of the character I drew?
