It was originally gonna end 3.12, but I'm away and won't return until the 7th.

This time I ask of you to create a cover of a song you like. It matters not what genre the original is, nor what genre the end-result is.

Here is a quick example:

That is a faux-lofi cover of the song About you now by the Sugababes.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MlLPTylIfoE

Do not enter songs you have made before. Only tracks made specifically for this contest will be accepted. Naturally you can showcase any covers you've made as long as it's clearly stated that it's not an entry. Now get cracking before I spank you all.

EDIT: You should also post a link to the song that you have chosen to cover. If it is not availible online then that's okay. Just saying that it would be easier for me to judge a song if I knew what song it was a cover of.

Hello and welcome to the great Tune Contest of July.

In this contest you will be required to incorporate lyrics. Any song you enter must have them. You can do it by:
- Singing
- Speech Synth
- Rapping
- Talking
- Samples
- Any way you see fit as long as there are lyrics.

The minimum amount of lyrics is 4 words. The genre is FREE.

Here's an example. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HmgOzTCinA

The Rumpus Room / The AGS Stickam Room
Wed 05/03/2008 17:14:24
Are there any stickam users here?

Stickam is a live community where people can talk together using audio, video and text. I have taken the liberty of starting an AGS chatroom on stickam.
Note that you must register to be able to join the rooms, a quick and painless process.

Note that you don't HAVE to have a webcam or a microphone, but it sure is more fun to talk to people that way!

So if anyone feels like chatting, then go to http://www.stickam.com/ and register, then come and visit THE AGS ROOM (link removed due to being obsolete)

The password is: chris

I'm not expecting this to last but if there is an evenings worth of entertainment to be had then i am satisfied :)

EDIT: I want to thank Sylvr, Indie Boy, Obi, Nihilyst and Boyd1981 for showing up so far :)

General Discussion / The return of MST3K
Mon 14/01/2008 19:39:13
Ok, so it's not really MST3K. It is however a new show based off of the idea of MST3K. We all already know about Rifftrax, which is also based on MST3K. Mike is not involved in this new project, though he keeps busy with Rifftrax.

The show is called CINEMATIC TITANIC and it features, from MST3K:

Joel Hodgeson, who played Joel
Trace Beaulieu, who played Dr. Forrester, Crow
Frank Conniff, who played TV's Frank
Mary Jo Pehl, who played Pearl
And last but not least;
J. Elvis Weinstein, who played Dr. Laurence Erhardt, first Tom Servo

The trailer for CINEMATIC TITANIC can be found on HERE! (youtube link)

Also please excuse my feverish ramblings. I have fever you see and when I have a fever i rarely make sense. Hopefully you will understand my excitement and why I had to post this.

Good evening.

The topic for this competition is:

Falling

You are falling. This topic is very freely interpretable, and as such I'm hoping for many different entries.

The song should preferably contain:

Why you are falling. Were you pushed. Did you trip?

How you are falling. Very fast, wildly flailing? Calmly, almost floating?

What you see. Clouds and sky? Floating creatures?

The landing. This is the ending. You have to land eventually. You decide how.

The thing I'm mostly looking forward to, is the landing.

Don't be discouraged by the rules either, as they aren't rules as much as they are guidelines.

Adventure Related Talk & Chat / Lapaset 2007
Wed 24/01/2007 20:17:04
Good evening manlies and gentlewomen.

As I'm sure some of you remember, there was a meeting called Lapaset, which was basically the finnish version of Mittens, arranged at my house back in 2006. Well folks, it's time again, and planning is to commence ASAP.

Visy is currently the planned host for this year, but everything is subject to change at this time, and he's currently looking for a place to host the event. He will probably post some suggestions and info about different possible locations. You are however, allowed to post your own suggestions of places of interest. Nothing is impossible.

As a last resort there's my house, but that might take some persuasion. It would be nice to get to travel around a bit more too (for me that is).

I officially declare the Lapaset 2007 discussion OPEN.

PLACE: Tampere
HOST: VISY
DATE: 13-17 of june or 20-24 of june
DURATION: 5 days

ATTENDANTS:
- Visy
- Haddas
- Inkoddi
- Tuomas
- Pablo
- Ishmael
- Azash
- Hedvig

Critics' Lounge / Music
Fri 12/01/2007 20:08:31
Hello again peoples. it's been a while since last time.

I sat down today and felt like creating a tune to have playing as background or FMV sequence music in an adventure game. After a couple of hours of work this is what i created.

The streets are mine

Now, I'm basically finished with the song, and by basically I mean I need help finding all the worst problems with it.

Is a specific sound really annoying, Is it too distracting to be background music? If it were to be background music, what kind of game would it be most suited for?

- Best regards, Haddas.

The theme of this week is SCARY MOVIES!

I need YOU to make it sound like you're receiving or making a call to/from someone.

in the style of "I'm inside the house". But you are free to make any type of scary dialogue.

GO NUTS!

Like stated above, a new gamestore opened in Porvoo just a week ago. We've had a lack of those. It's only been game-sections of larger stores before. Finally one specifically for games!

The store isn't that big, but what it lacks in size it makes up for with content. I went in there the other day and they sold just about anything. Gaming controls, Roleplaying guide and rulebooks, warhammer figures etc.

What really impressed me was the videogame section. Not only did they have new games, they also had a nice selection of old games. I even found Doshin the giant!

General Discussion / Darth WHAT?
Mon 17/07/2006 22:39:25
for fans of Star Wars, or actually Darth vader, this is the best fan-parody ever made.

They've taken dialogue of James Earl Jones from other movies and mixed it with video of Darth Vader.

Let me paste the description here:

"Torn by good & evil and an incestuous love affair, a lonely and depraved Darth Vader has a nervous breakdown.

This is by far the FUNNIEST thing ever made this side of the Milky Way!! It was created entirely by using the true voice of Vader, Mr. James Earl Jones HIMSELF!"

Watch it HERE

I recommend it for everyone. Professional quality.

I'm really sad, and I need a place to vent.

Yesterday, not even 24 hours ago one of my best friends died. He was driving and drove of the road and hit a tree, dying instantly. There were no brakemarks. I really don't think it was suicide, he didn't seem suicidal.

I saw to him the night before. We were at a party. The weekend hadn't really gone his way. We joked and I said "Next you're probably gonna hit a tree" and then we laughed.

And now he's dead.

This is an awesome site. I've had so much fun playing around with the software there. it's not very accurate but I can get some very nice results.

Apparently I share 70% of my facial features with Mother Theresa.

Hello there. After more hours than I can count (2) I have finished a drawing. I've followed some tutorials and I've watched to good people pixel, and now I want some comments and critique on this sprite.

You need the map. A lady is guarding it. The lady looks like she has bad eyesight. Very thick glasses, gray hair and round cheeks. She looks like she's in a generally bad mood.

Man: Excuse me, could I have that map over there?
Lady: Certainly not!
Man: Any particular reason? Is it valuable or something?
Lady: It's been hand-signed by the president! You betcha it's valuable!
Man: I happened to see you were drinking liquor on duty, It's illegal, don't you know?
Lady: I did no such things. You must be imagining. Now if you'll excuse me, I have business to attend to.
Man: But...
Lady: Goodbye, sir. (rude)

-Do not read-
Hide behind weird looking flower
Wait for lady to lean over counter to see if anyone is in the room
Lady takes out bottle and takes a sip
Player talks to Lady while she's drinking

Man: AHA! Caught you red-handed!
Lady: Oh not you again.
Man: Can I have the map?
Lady: Take it. Just go away, and stay away
Man: Goodbye, ma'am (rude)

You can use voice-editing software for the Old Lady if you want :)

Lapaset. which is the finnish word for Mittens, which also happens to be a meeting that shall be held in Finland (Lapaset that is). It will be held at my house which is big and can house many peoples. Now all I need to know is who might show up, and what time would be suitable, to avoid clashing with Brittens and the oh so official Mittens. I've started this thread this early because these things take planning, and better safe than sorry, right?

One prequisite is that the meeting takes place between June and August. The dates haven't been set, so let's hear proposals.

LIST BE HERE:

People hosting:
1. ME
People coming:
1. Pablo
2. Ishmael
3. JetXL
4. Visy
5. Petteri
6. Tuomas
7. Stickieee

Maybe coming of people to show up???

1. Custard
2. GarageGothic
3. Inkoddi ¬¬
4. Andail
5. Minimi
6. Creed Malay
7. Iqu

I know this might have been brought up before, but I've been thinking about it more, lately. I brought it up at Brittens this summer and have been wondering about how plausible this feature would be?

Eg. The background is outside and you want the sky to move. As in, the clouds drifting. It could be done with characters, but this would save time. I've always disliked animating backgrounds, as it increases the file size when you need more images, as you need frames for the animation. Another one would be in a cave, with foreground objects that move at a different speed as you do. Again, characters, as proposed in a thread that came up that I searched.

These are all terrible examples. I remember there were some really good useful examples at Brittens, but sadly I've forgotten most of it. Something with the ocean...

General Discussion / Bypassing firewall?
Sun 14/08/2005 01:25:34
I'm at the World Champinoships in Helsinki as a Smoke Watcher right now. I have a computer I can do just about anything on... well. not everything. XP finds it a wise desision to block mIRC and all the other irc apps I've tried. So if there are any java based ones I can use to access irc.adventuregamestudio.co.uk or if I can bypass the firewall, I'd like to know how and or where.

General Discussion / The 10th Planet
Tue 02/08/2005 02:26:14
Yes. The 10th planet of our solar system has been found. This might be old news for some, but it's new to me. The news is only 2 days old now.

But as of now we must teach children in school the new planet names. Which are now Mercury, Venus, Tellus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and the cleverly and creatively named 2003UB313. :P

The thing that amazes me most is that it's actually 1½ times larger than Pluto. It's 14,5 billion kilometers away, made of rock and ice and completes a rotation in 560 years

What are your feelings on this? Excited? Indifferent? Excited?

EDIT: Actually it was already FOUND back in January
