I just downloaded and installed AGS (3.0.2 SP1) and when I click it in the Start menu, I get the following two consecutive error messages:

The procedure entry point GetRequestedRuntimeInfo could not be located in the dynamic link library mscoree.dll.

edit:
Never mind, I downloaded .NET framework and repaired my installation, and now it works fine.

Just an addicting little site I thought I'd share with everyone.
It's barely been around 1 week and it's already quite popular.

General Discussion / Google Talk

http://www.google.com/talk

I knew it was only a matter of time before Google made their own IM client.

You need a Gmail account to use it, but Gmail is open to any sms-compatible phone now. (invites are a dime a dozen nowadays anyway)
I tried out Google Talk, but it was a bit bare imo. Luckily it uses the Jabber protocol which makes it compatible with many other chat clients.

Google Talk supports standards-based communication clients, which means that Gmail users can access the Google Talk service and exchange instant messages using other clients that support the standard XMPP protocol, such as Trillian, GAIM, iChat, Adium, and Psi. This allows users to access the Google Talk service for instant messaging from all major platforms, including OSX, Linux, and Windows.

General Discussion / Google X
Sat 26/03/2005 23:19:13
Just thought people might find this interesting ... On March 16 (I think), Google put up a project called "Google X" on Google Labs. It was basically Google with a Mac OS Dock-like toolbar. The bottom of the page read "Roses are red. Violets are blue. OS X rocks. Homage to you.".
Mysteriously, in less than twenty-four hours the page was down with a 404, and removed from Google Labs. Google won't say why.

Anyway, people took it from the Google cache and made mirrors. I made a modified mirror (http://googlex.jayssite.com/) that I hope someone finds useful.

So what do you think? Did Apple give Google a cease-and-desist?

Critics' Lounge / Bedroom Background
Fri 01/10/2004 23:58:59
This is my first attempt at making my own background, so I need some advice before I continue if I'm doing something wrong ...

I think the lamp looks a little bit odd, but I don't know how to draw it any better.
Also, I think the room looks bare. If so, what should I add?
Did I overdo the texturing? (every single thing is textured)

Feel free to suggest anything at all. It's all vector so it's no problem to change things.

A few questions:
1 - How large are FLI/FLCs usually? I converted a video to FLC (using Jasc Animation Shop, because that's the only software I have for FLCs). It came out to be about 15 mb, for just a seven second video. That can't be normal, is there any other software anybody can recommend? (I googled it but I didn't find much that converts to flic)
2 - Also, I was wondering about the quality. I read somewhere that you can only have 256 colors in a FLIC. Is this true? My game is high color, I don't want the flic to look much different from the game.

I'm not so eager to use FLIC, but it seems to be the only way to compile videos directly into the game's .exe file, am I right? My game will have a different ending depending on what score you get, and I don't want it to be easy as double-clicking the file in the compiled folder to view it if I used .avi.

I know I'm being a bit picky, but it's been annoying me that on the key at the bottom of the pages it has

I just got finished watching the show Monk on TV, maybe I'm a being a bit obsessive compulsive...  :P

(oh wait - is Monk a USA-only show?)

I was thinking of creating a long game where you basically have to prevent a suicide. Then, after I finished about half the planning for it, I realized - suicide isn't a joke, and perhaps I shouldn't make a game focused about it. The story is essentially that someone's son commits suicide, and then God sends him back 1 week in time so he can try and prevent it.
Is that too serious a topic?
