Critics' Lounge / A drawing! (WIP)
Sun 12/04/2009 03:30:09
Hello AGS! Long time no see.
So, now that I'm done with the army I've been dedicating more time to drawing, which is a good thing.

Started out in ArtRage and then switched to Photoshop, ArtRage is clunky (but has an awesome pencil tool!).
Still a work in progress as you can plainly see, I've noticed some mistakes myself but am too tired to continue today (it's 5:30 AM here, I'm about to go to bed).
The most glaring error I've noticed is that the hands are way, way too short, but that is easy to fix...

So, yeah.

Please c&c :D

Critics' Lounge / Painting... needs help.
Sat 20/08/2005 20:55:42

So... I drew this sketch so I could try out a new painting technique.
The sketch was not too good so I guess it reflects on the colours, and even moreso the fact that I forgot to clean the sketch up before applying colours.
The face got most of the work, colour-wise, and I think it shows and I'm quite pleased with it.
Now, problem is, when it comes to everything else in the picture... I'm stumped. No idea what to do, can't even visualise it with more detail to fit the face...
And then comes the hair, another one of my weak points.

Tips, paintovers or general comments would be much appreciated.

Original sized picture (quite large).

General Discussion / Andy? Is that you?
Sat 21/05/2005 15:31:41
While doing my casual lurking about in another forum, I came across this video:
http://www.trashfun.de/out.php?id=525

I immediately thought, "hmm... this kid looks familiar."
A few seconds later, the words "Andy" and "P3n15h" came to mind.
After some research, I found that this kid is apparently more famous than just being "Andy Penis", and actually getting his own TV show soon.
DG's child is growing so fast.  :'(

I apologize if this is rather well-known, just thought some people might be interested.

Critics' Lounge / Portrait sketch.

Quick sketch.
15 minutes.
Corel Painter 9 + tablet.

Tips? Crits?

I have just lost my last tablet pen-tip.
Sadly, the last thing I drew with it was this pathetic MS Paint picture.
My chances of finding it are very slim, and there is no where I could buy replacement tips, nor can I afford a new tablet.

Just wanted to vent a little. :(

Here's the log of the award ceremony, for those unfortunate souls who missed it:

Formatted log, edited out people joining/leaving/renaming and basically disturbing the peace. Also edited out the cheering.

Raw log, same thing, but with all the chaos and people making fools of themselves for 30 seconds.

Enjoy! :)

This has been discussed over and over again on IRC, and after some procrastination, it has been decided to start an Animation Competition!

What happens is this:

A base sprite is supplied, and a theme. Participants must use the given sprite for their animation.
This is done mostly so people who feel their drawing skills aren't to par can participate as well.

Each competition will last 11 days. If there is enough response to this one, that is.

The starter of each competition will decide on the winner.

The winner, who will decide on the next competition's theme, must also supply a sprite. It doesn't have to be an amazing piece of art. Just something that won't be too hard to animate.

So, let us begin!

Our first theme is "conveying an emotion"!
One of the most important uses of animation in a game, in my opinion. Making the player see what your character FEELS.
You may use any emotion you wish: surprise, disgust, happiness, love... The sky's (almost) the limit.

For this competition, we will use the king of placeholder graphics, our own beloved... Roger!

You may use the side view, front view, or both, if you wish.
Please remember to state which emotion you are trying to convey.

Remember: Convey an EMOTION!

Happy animating!

Erm.
Quick sketch, rather quick inking.
I like the result, so I thought I'd post it.

Any crits?

General Discussion / Computer trouble.
Sat 01/01/2005 15:58:22
Righto.
My PC overheated and got fried a while ago, so I went and bought myself a brand new PC, salvaging some parts from the old PC (HDD, CD burner) to make stuff a little cheaper.

Enter trouble.

I've installed Windows XP, everything worked fine for a couple of days, and then BLAM.
I reboot, and Windows won't load.
It just gets to where the XP load screen is supposed to be, but all I get is a black screen.
Reinstalling Windows helps, but only until I reboot, and Windows won't load again.

Is my hard-drive broken? Should I get a new one or does anyone know of a way to fix this?
I lack the money to buy a new one, and installing Windows 3-5 times a day is starting to get a little annoying.

Help?

Got bored in graphic design class, decided to draw one of the many sculptures scattered around the studio.

Crit, tear apart, throw rotten fruit at, paint over, help.

Critics' Lounge / Yet another sketch.
Sat 09/10/2004 04:16:57
Well.
I keep saying I'm going to tackle figure drawing.
So now I've done this heap of junk.
For some reason, I decided not to use reference for the guitar.
So um, yeah.
Ignore the guitar.

Crits are welcome, rip this thing apart.

Also, I would LOVE some tips on inking, as I've tried inking many of my sketches, and they come out simply hideous.
Thank you.

Warning, brief nudity. Some gore. And lots of awesome.

http://www.movie-list.net/exclusive/sincity-480.mov

I have only read a few of the comics, and yet, this trailer has managed to get me all excited.
Even if you're not a fan of the comics, I suggest watching the trailer.
This just might be the awesomest movie ever.

Right.
I just installed win2k.
Everything went fine and dandy, until I actually booted into win2k.
Then, CHAOS.
While running windows update, I got a bluescreen.
I though, 'well. This is windows. I'll just press any key and get back to work".
So I press a key.
Nothing happens.
I reboot.
THEN, when trying to install SP4, I got bluescreened. AGAIN.
Please send help.
Or just help me.

Edit:
Right. Happened again.
This time it said 'Unexpected kernel trap', or something along those lines.
Could it be because I upgraded from win98? Maybe I need a clean install?

Edit Edit:
Screw this.
I'm going back to 98.

Well.
This is more of a doodle than a sketch, 10-15 minutes.
It's kind of crappy, but it's 12pm, I've been up for 24 hours, and um, I can't draw :)

I should really work on anatomy, figure drawing etc., but whenever I try to, my proportions get funky and I get discouraged, and stick to head drawing.
Which I'm also not that good at.
So crit it, please.
Be harsh.

(And yes, I did make her wink because I couldn't get the other eye to look right [still doesn't look right, but meh]).

Well, last time I posted a speedpainting here was almost a year ago.
Now it's time for another, methinks.

Pose taken from reference, shading done from memory (stupid, I know).
I sketched the whole body, but scrapped it. My figure drawing is still bad.

Crit me hard.
:)

Oh yeah, made in Photoshop, original is twice the size.

Update:
Damn. PS crashed before I saved the updated PSD file. I'm quite the idiot.
So I used some of the lines I had saved, and hastily made new ones (this is really for practice with colour, the line art doesn't really matter much to me).
Same palette.

Update #2:
Iqu, you rock.

Critics' Lounge / Concept sketch for character
Fri 25/06/2004 00:27:32
Right.
So, this is a concept sketch for a character, he's supposed to be the CEO of a company about to go bankrupt.
That's all I have to say about him so far.

Sketch
Sketch with a bit of colour

Crit me.
Crit me as hard as you can.
But I already noticed the eyes aren't aligned :)

This is my first digital painting that's worth posting ANYWHERE.
I'm a total beginner at this so crits are more than welcome :D
I have absolutely no idea on how to paint the eyes, ears and hair, so tips on that will be greatly appreciated  :)

Gear used: OpenCanvas3Plus and a tablet.
Approximate time of work: 3 hours.

Critics' Lounge / Random drawing
Mon 18/08/2003 09:41:35
I was doing my daily drawing session while listening to Glassjaw (notice the Glassjaw logos everywhere? :P) and drew this weird thing.
I kind of like it, and decided to post it here.
C&C is highly appreciated.

Hints & Tips / Revenants demo-STUCK!
Tue 05/08/2003 14:13:38
Alright,
Spoiler
I entered this willy bar-thing from the roof of grandma's house.
Now when I use something on the door, it says I have to put something under it first.
What do I put there?
