What sort of dwelling do they inhabit and how does it coexist with it's surroundings? Are they a Miracle Max or Madam Mim? A Radagast or Rent-a-Ghost? A... No, i've overstretched myself there, can't think of a third one.. Is it dark and broody or light and airy? Cottage in the glades or cabin in the woods? It's up to you!

I'd like to make it clear here though that it DOESN'T HAVE TO BE A CABIN IN THE WOODS! The theme is simply the "Mystics House" Location and setting are completely your choice!

i started out strongly wth this month's Background Blitz but have really come a cropper and wondered if anyone could point me in the right direction? I'm happy with the drawing so won't be changing that at this late stage but i would really like some advice on how people colour their backgrounds and if anyone is using a simialr process to the one i'm trying.
Any help would be really appreciated, thanks!

i started out with the scaled down "finished" lineart:

Then i painted in an occlusion pass to give it a sense of volume:

Lastly i reduced the whole thing and tried to come up with some lighting conditions and value structure:

Now i'm absolutely knackered when it comes to the colouring as i honestly don't know where to start. Maybe i've been staring at it too long and am missing something obvious but could someone please help me out with this. I really don't want to hand in a BW to the competition

WEEEEELLLLLLLL that was an incredibly close run race! Oozing talent like some kind of.... erm.... septic.. genius...?

Bad vocabulary aside, what a belter of a competition. Thank you for actually all turning up to my first hosting gig and please feel free to help yourselves to curly meat paste sandwiches and little hot dogs on stick. We have cheese on sticks for the vegetarians and pineapple chunks on sticks for the vegans!

Well done and thank you to everyone who entered!! The standard was exceptionally high in all of the voting categories and there's not a background here i couldn't see in a good game! I may be devaluing the exclamation mark by using it so much for everything but i don't care - you all deserve a round of applause...!

Any help, crits or comments you have would be, well... just adored, they really would =)))) (especially if they are constructive)

It's meant to start on the left at 800x600 and then soer of pan as you walk to the right
