Hello guys,

This is my first time creating Save system in AGS. I am able to save and restore the game without issues.

However I can't figure out how to change the GUI for the default "save window". There is no option in Global Settings, manual or anywhere I looked.

PS: I'm not able to upload the imagine here, so here is the link instead: https://imgur.com/cIMgwws

Any idea how or where to change the graphics?

Thank you.

Hello guys,

Is there a way to export all text from the game (preferably without code around it), for my writing editor?

What I need basically, is that I need all my text like dialogues, cEgo.Say's, Displays, etc, to be exported to let's say a word document, then my editor checks my grammar and stuff, and then I would be able to upload this document into AGS again with these edited texts.

TL;DR
1) Export ALL text from AGS
2) Give it to my editor
3) Update my AGS project with these new edited texts.

Hello again :)

I'm using voice over dialogues, however every time the voice files plays the music volume lowers a little bit by default. Is there a way to change this?

I need the music to be unchanged at all times. I tried to fiddle with sound priorities, volumes and all that, but nothing works.

Hi guys,

I am trying to create digital clock in the game which is going to be stopped, and will pass time only if certain actions take place. That means the usual "DateTime" global variable is not an option.

Example:
- Time: 10:00
- You click on Hotspot
- Time: 10:05

The premise is simple, but I don't know how to make a function that will recognize the time logic. For example if I have 11:59, and you click on a hotspot, I want to add +1 second, how do I make the variable go to 12:00, instead of 11:60.

Because I am able to just add +1 to the int value.

Hello,

I have a newbie question. Never used any modules before, so I need to know how to add a module to a game?

I have just downloaded the bubble speech module from this thread https://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=55542.0 , but have no idea where, or how to implement the file in AGS itself.

Can anyone advise? :)

Thanks!

General Discussion / AGS Awards
Mon 30/12/2019 10:00:43
Hello guys,

I have an easy (but maybe stupid) question: How do AGS Awards work?

1) Do we need to upload our games somewhere or simply by registering them on the AGS download page is enough?

2) Who votes for these games? Is it admins/veteran users or the whole community?

3) When and where does this event take place?

Thank you and Happy New Year to everyone! :)

Hello there,

my name is David BroÃ,,ek AKA Thanyx, the writer from Digital Mosaic Games (Metaphobia - https://bit.ly/2ZExgA9) . Our team is looking for a character and animation artist for our upcoming adventure game with project name Castle Dornstein.

The theme of the game is a classic gothic novel-like story. The main inspiration were stories like Dracula, Frankenstein and other pre-victorian/victorian era novels.

This is going to be a commercial project with - revenue-share. More information will be provided in the personal discussion.

We are using 320x200 resolution so our characters should be standard types for this scale. See examples below (These pictures are just to exemplify the scale and complexity of characters not the theme):

STORY
It is middle of the 19th century. Hemlock, a Prague University Librarian is invited to a famous and very beloved noble Dornstein family in Castle Dornstein in order to translate a mysterious book from medieval latin to German/Czech. The book is called Deorum Historia Orbis Terrarum or The History of the Gods of Earth, and was written by a crazy medieval monk Gregorovitz who claimed was forced to write this book by devil himself.
When Hemlock arrives to the castle however, he becomes rather suspicious of the place. The book he is suppose to study is all of the sudden missing and the residents of the castle start acting strangely.
Hemlock completely changes his view on Dornsteins when he hears local rumors from the nearby villagers about the family, recently deceased Lady Dornstein and the castle itself. The situation even worsens when his personal items are starting to disappear...

Hello,

Im not sure where should I post this thread, since it related to AGS forum itself.

Long story short:
I need to add a video on my AGS forum thread, but not only the link but the video should be playable in the article itself.
I think I've seen it somewhere but cannot find the way to do it.

METAPHOBIA

A mysterious case of Richard Elmstat

STORY

A painter, Richard Elmstat, was born into a family which was known for many generations as one of the highest political families in the country. His father, Carl Elmstat, was recently elected as mayor of the city, when he fairly defeated his rival Edward Raban in the elections.

Even though Richard was raised to follow his father and have the highest political career, he had already chosen his dream job - painting. But Richard and his father never had a close relationship due to Richard's bohemian lifestyle and lack of respect for political authority. Because of this, they lived separate lives without seeing or speaking to one another.

Carl always tried to uphold his political beliefs with for-people reforms and laws. People adored him and he became a hero of the city.

Three months after the elections, Carl Elmstat is killed by a thief who was later caught, convicted and sent to jail - case closed.

Though Richard didn't have a good relationship with his father, he couldn't bare the fact that he was murdered; let alone by an ordinary thief in the politician's mansion . Worsened by guilt that he was a bad son, Richard decided to investigate the murder on his own. His prime suspect? Edward Raban - his father's nemesis.

During the time of the investigation, Richard finds out that the truth behind the murder is hidden much deeper under the ground than he expected...

Dear colleagues!

We are two men team, working on a game called METAPHOBIA. The game concept and art is finished and basically is just ready to be coded.

The game is a mystery/crimi/thriller. Mood and storytelling is inspired by Gabriel Knight 1. To avoid spoilers, we will give you more informations in PM. The game will be a freeware, so please count with that.

We are looking for a programmer to help us only with a few codes. Mostly puzzles and more complex animation scenes.

I am able to code almost everything: Items usage, dialogs, simple animations, etc. So we will not bother you with banalities like this, and you will basically just help us with those few complex scripts.

Here are a few pictures of our game.

Looking forward for your reply!

Contact me either via email brocekdavid@gmail.com or in PM on AGS forum.

UPDATE: 14/10/2017

We are also looking for a Soundeffect (SFX) artist to help us.

Contact me either via email tolgaocek@yahoo.de or in PM on AGS forum.

Moderator note: Topics merged. Please try to keep updated recruitment details to a single thread to avoid confusion. Perhaps you could designate a single user to be responsible for recruitment postings, instead of multiple team members?

General Discussion / Copyright Pictures Rules
Sun 24/09/2017 21:16:43
Dear all,

first of all, I hope I'm putting this in the right section. If not, I apologize in advance.

We are currently working on a game, that we plan to release commercially. What are the rules for used pictures from the internet (Google, Shutterstock)?
To be more specific, we used real pictures from Google, but basically changed the whole look (made it more pixely, different colours, added furniture, changed faces, etc).
Is it still illegal to use this edited material, or does it count as an original creation?

Here are two examples. These two are the most extreme examples of similarities between edited and original pictures in our project.

Dear colleagues,

I'm currently working on my game on my main PC. I would like to work on it also on my laptop.

I wonder, how to share or merge my saves in both machines?

And what if I make, for instance, one room on PC and then other room on my laptop, will I be able to merge both saves together?

Hello

How can I put Sierra style dialog conversation on the bottom of the screen?

It is on the top by default. Is there any way to just relocate it, or will I need to create a whole new GUI?
#17
Hello

I have this situation about dialogs during phone calls.
Im using Sierra style dialogs.

The problem is that if you want to have a dialog with a character, you need to put them in the room. Obviously, my question is, how to start the dialog without the character in the room?

Example:
I click on the phone in the inventory and it will start new dialog.
Ego: Hi.
Char: Why do you call me?
Ego: Im vegan.
...
I understand I dont need to use same character on the phone as I have in other room and basically create e.g. Character1  and Character_Phone. The question is, how to access this character_phone, basically from any room in the game?

General Discussion / Reupload Announced Games
Fri 14/07/2017 14:14:28
Dear all,

I have rather silly question.

How can I reupload my thread with announced game here in the forums?

I see that there are games released months ago, but they are on the top of the list of threads.

I don't want to spam more than one thread, I just want to "refresh it".

Thank you :)

Hello AGS colleagues!!!

From a sloppy project created in 48 hours for Ludum Dare 38 competition, to the game that is Haven today, has passed few weeks.
This final game is not a masterpiece, but I believe it has its charm...

SHORT INFO:
In 2057, when the oxygen is basically non-existent in the world anymore, scientists predicted this to happen so they created a huge complex structure, almost as big as London, which is called HAVEN - THE SMALL WORLD.

This place simulates what the world used to look like before the apocalypse.

There is a rumor, that capacity of Haven is getting narrow  and that directors of this place are planning to exterminate some of the inhabinants to balance the life in Haven.

Roy (You) receives a mysterious message from unknown person, who warns him, that he is in the black list of the project of reduction of inhabintants. Roy must find a way to get deleted of the database of those who are about to die soon.

For more information about the game and the download, you can find on the links below (it is for free of course):

Hello,

I am sorry, for this trivial script question, but I am really lost.

I have a hotspot (Locker) and if player interacts with the Locker, he will acquire an item (Pills).

My question is:
How do I code that if the player ever clicked on the hotspot, he will not be able to take pills twice.
Because I tried to code classic "DoOnceOnly" script so if player HasInventory(iPill), then he will say "I already took them".

The problem is, that if player ever gets rid of the Pills, suddenly, player is able to take the Pills from the Locker again.

Any ideas?
