is there a way to post an image on forum and have it post on page with fixed width while maintain aspect ratio?

This relates to posting of large images that push the forum frames out and mess the forum layout up, i have seen many forums have this post feature where you embed an image and the width has a pre-set width (as determined by forum or admin) and the image will reduce its display size in the post, but one clicking the image it will open new browser window/tab to show the original source/size of image

The Rumpus Room / Fotoshop Fridays
Thu 06/12/2018 14:42:16
A fun weekly themed photo manipulation thread in which members on the forum make Photoshops of a source photo or image, and the winner chooses a new photo or image for the next round.

I might work like this:

Every Friday a new photo or image is posted by someone in which people are invited to manipulate in some way during over the weekend and into the following week. People can post their pieces up to  Wednesday, then people will vote over Wednesday and Thursday with the winner having to pick the next photo or image on the Friday, and the process repeats.

The photo or images can be anything, from media/current affairs/history.. whatever. The theme of the Photoshop can be just random, or set with a subject, for example people might have to stick to a subject on an image or photo.

Photoshops of this kind are usually quick things that take a few mins, and often the cheapness of the manipulation is humorous in of itself, so don't worry about having to spend lots of time with detailing, its just for laughs.

Although I say any photo/image is game, please at least try to consider the subject image or photo you are setting, and consider what edits people are likely to do, likewise the people making the Photoshops might also be considerate.
Photoshops are often edgy, but as with anything else on the forum if anyone or mods find anything inappropriate then so be it.

What do folks think?   I could kick things off this Friday and post an image of some kind for people to go wild with, or if anyone else wants to go first fire away.

NOTE:

Although I mention Photoshop a lot, the edits can be done in any software you like, dose not have to be Photoshop.

You can post multiple entries if you want

Its OK to post Animated Gifs of your manipulations, but only post static images when setting the subject.

Hello, I am looking for someone to make a series of animation sequences for a tiny low res one color player sprite. The sprite is sort of like a stick figure, and I have and example of it already with a run cycle.

[imgzoom]http://fractalscapes.net/-DUMP/FORUM/MassTransitRunner.gif[/imgzoom]

Other sequences I will need such as walk, jump, climb..etc

I hope this project will be out onto the market within no more then 2 month. We can discus a % or set amount assuming the game sells, but also your name will feature prominently as being the animator of the player sprite.

I am hoping since the sprite is such low res + one color + simple stick figure type shape that it will be relatively easy, quick and fun to produce a series of animations for it.

If anyone sounds like they can help me out it would be great, either leave a reply here or pm me.

The Rumpus Room / Find the 8 Blue Mugs
Tue 18/07/2017 13:13:15
Hello, thought to make a where's waldo type of fun challenge, so I found a suitable image online and hid 8 blue mugs in there. Can anyone find them all?

If this is too easy I can see about making a new harder one.

Sorry to ask yet more video related questions, but since this was not much related to my last post i thought i aught to make a new one

we have a source video prepared to playback in ags. However, when implemented into ags the video plays back with a purple tint, also there is weird shadowing/glitching going on with text. Can anyone help.. bit of an emergency also :D

Hey folks.

I have a project which will feature about a 1 min video at 320x240..  Ideally the size of this video should not be over 100 or so meg, give or take a few meg.

The animation for this video as been arranged in After Effects ,and although I provided the elements for the animation someone else is doing the layout/rendering in after effects, so I don't have any direct access to it with regarding this video.

Ok so the trouble is that the person who is rendering the video can only seem to get a file size of 13meg with horrific compression. (unusable) ..... OR  a 1.3gig file.

Although I cannot see what the person on after effects is seeing, and although I have not had any direct experience with after effects I am convinced there is has to be some other options other then 13mg  or 1.3gig.

Ive been messing about with video compression for a while and I just know that video can be improved well beyond the 13mg version, but nowhere near the 1.3gig version

The other issue is that the person cannot upload the 1.3gig version for me to try compress with 3rd party tools for the game, because the file is so huge (we both have very bad internet) I know if I had the 1.3gig file I could do a million things to improve the situation.

My request is if anyone on this forum uses after effect, and if they are familiar with video compression, is it possible they could take a look at our after effects project file and see if you can get this video at a size that is reasonable for the game (about 100meg)  but without too much loss of quality.

I don't mind if the video is in 30 or 25ps .. nor do i mind compressing the audio down to something stupid, but the video for me its very important as much crisp and clear quality is maintained.. right now the 13meg version is so bad its embarrassing.

Anyway.. if anyone could help with this they will get their name in the game closing credits for sure

ALSO what is the most ideal format for ags to playback? I'm looking for quality and smoothness of playback,..  i assume ogg or something? or can it play back avi? wmv?, mpg4?

Hello folks

I have had a consistent issue running every complied AGS game executable and uncompiled project test/previewing with my Avast anti virus.

Every ags game I have tried so far, without exception, has been flagged by avast as being suspicious. The pain is that when I click a game to run avast has this popup appear saying its checking the file because its suspicious. if i am not quick enough to abort this and its very easy to do since its only there briefly it automatically, every-time no matter what, flaggs the file as a potential danger and informs me that its sent the file off for inspection by avast staff or whatever, leaving me with a file that when I try again wont even run at all. So avast is changing the file in some way I dunno.

To make matters worse MOST of the time I DO manage to abort this horrible popup it completely and utterly freezes onto the screen, and no amount of trying to close the many avast tasks running via task manger will shut those tasks down. So I have to reboot my pc many times while trying to play ags game, and after re-boot if i attempt to run the same file again avast dose this again.

To make this even worse, a few of the games I DID manage to get working after avast made me wait up to 2 days, it would only let me run it once, ..  then the next time i run it , its almost like avast forgot it said the last time it was safe, so I have to go through this whole popup/reboot pm/wait up to 2 days ... issues again and again, every ags game bar none.. this has never happened with any other game file.

Before this was a trivial annoyance, but now its starting to become a pain and I was wondering if any of you out there are also running avast and having this same issue .. if so is there anything I can do asides from completely shutting avast down every-time I want to run a game then try to remember I have it off to turn it back on again. :-\

Hey folks,

Dose anyone know how i might extract dialog from an ags project file (uncompiled project) to some sort of text file/list i then can copy/paste to somewhere else?

Hi folks I got a little time over the last day to try a few experiments with ags to see what it can do/ if its viable for a project idea.

Right now i am testing how ags dose movement and I was hoping to ask a few questions related to it.

My test involved a box(char) that moves from point a to point b in a test scene that is set to be 60fps. and my question here is it possible for this movement to have acceleration / deceleration curves to when the box start to move it will gradually speed up to a defined speed, then at the end of its move gradually slow down...  in effect i am asking is it possible to do ease in / ease out with ags.

During my test I also note that when the char moves from point a to b it looks really jerky as if its in a very low fps, yet the game settings are set to run at 60fps.

I understand that the Tween module can achieve some sort of ease/in/out but apparently (From my research) that it ignores walk-able areas.

Also slightly unrelated question .. but
Is it possible for ags (or the tween module ) to cross-fade between 2 images over a given length of time. If not cross-fade between two image can it at least fade in an image over some other image.

Hi folks, Sorry to ask a total noob question, but I am having a bit of trouble finding where the "General Settings" area is in the editor pertaining to this post:

http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=49815.0

I was going to ask on that post but I got a warning pop-up from the forum saying that it was not best to bump it since it was so old, so sorry for creating a new post that has already sort of been covered.

I did also google, search the stock documents, and spent much time looking around every nook and cranny in the editor itself but I cant seem to find anything pertaining to "General Settings", or nothing pertaining to "Multiplied Translucence" of which I was hoping to experiment with.

Perhaps the original post is so old that the settings area has been changed in the current version?

Well just while I am posting this I may as-well ask is it possible for AGS to use other types of alpha blending asides from just levels of alpha. I mean for example, overlay/multiply, even darken/soft light? things of that nature?

EDIT... holy molly twas staring me in the face, top tree thingy...  funny though on document searching for "general options" nothing relevant returns, either googling.. nevermind , found it

Hi folks, I was just experimenting with ags today to use it to test some things for another project.. To be honest I have not had any experience with ags and I cannot code, but it is just a test I want to do rather then make anything.

My trouble is I have sammy the default character on the screen, and I have imported an "object", this object has a bit of alpha (for example tinted glass), when I place the object in the room right over the character sprite, then test the game the character always seems to be on top of the object. I have tried messing about with changing the Baseline Override setting to true then experimented by changing the value in the base line from 0, 1, 2, 3, 4..etc ..  no value seems to make sit on top of the character sprite.

At this point I am assuming this requires some sort of code or script to make happen? If its a case it needs code well I might just no bother, after all its just for a test. but if anyone sees a way I can make this work by editing any of the visual parameters and values in the ags editor it would be great. I am sure it has something to do with z order, I had assume baseline was the equivalent of Z order in AGS? .. Oh I also tried to change the value of the "ID" for both the character sprite and object, but it seems to be ghosted out and not editable.

Anyway if anyone could give some suggestions what I might be doing wrong it would be fantastic

<<Coloring Ball: Useless Machine >>

Your Task: To create a machine with no particular function at all

Your machine can be some sort of mechanical device, or electronic device and anything in between, perhaps a mix of mechanical and electronic.

Fill the space with details such as:

Cogs, Buttons, Levers, Pulleys, Knobs, Dials, Pistons, Lights, Wires, Vents, Tubes, Screens, Springs, Rivets, Panels, Handles, Bulbs, Antennas, Coils, Sockets, Fans, Circuits, Valves, Pumps... and so on.

The Rules:

You may not rotate, flip or resize the shape. (sorry hehe )

You must color the shape outline according to your design. (So peoples designs sit more seamlessly when put on the Totem)

You can animate various bits on your machine.

All Entries must be in by Friday 9th June, at which time voting will start, and winners will be announced the following week on Saturday 17th June

Bonus Contest Feature - Totem Image Collaboration

The shape is designed to fit on top of itself and cut into itself., At the end of the contest everybody's entry will be added to the Totem to make a Mega Machine Image with a backdrop design to go with them. The winner on top, 2nd place next, then third and random positions for all the runners up. I thought it might be really interesting to use this contest also as a Totem collaboration, the idea of which I saw on another forum.

Winners will be displayed as normal the traditional way so this Totem Image will just be a bonus to compliment the end of the contest.

Best of luck to all the entries for the contest, and best of luck to everybody on trying to build the tallest, most craziest mechanical contraption possible!

Hi there folks, The last few weeks I started a project and created a post in the recruitment thread here on the AGS forums related to it. I just updated that post today (toward the bottom of the first page). Since I have not shown this around to anyone else outside the AGS community or the recruitment thread, I thought it might be a good time to expose my idea in a better place here on the AGS forum so perhaps a couple of more people can spot it, give some feedback, advice or even offer to help because I am still actively looking for help with this project.

I am still not sure if this game is being made with AGS yet (had some interest from people , but nothing serious so far) so there is a chance I may bring this idea to another engine based forum such as unity, or something more general like IndieDB, but I thought it might be good to post here anyway and see if anyone thinks what I am doing is worthwhile, from a gamers point of view if its something that people will play,  and also developers point of view if the project is viable and practical to develop.

Rather then post everything again here I will just link to the recruitment thread, and if anyone would like to give me feedback on it, but is not related to direct help with the game then you can reply in this thread (the adventure related chat).

Well here is the link (bare in mind the newer stuff is down the bottom of the page)

The Rumpus Room / Request to Forum Mods/Admin
Fri 19/05/2017 20:18:29
Hi folks I looked a while for a more suitable (forum issues) thread, but found nothing even close. So really sorry to post this here, only I would like to ask the mods/admin of this forum if it is ok to create a new post in the critics thread linking to a post in the recruitment section?  I am trying to see if I can get some more varied feedback and I am not sure if the general community watches the recruitment thread that often. Also I was specifically told not to create a post in the "active projects" area of the forum because I had not enough work done or my work was not good enough or whatever. Anyway if there is any possibility to exposing my project in a more view-able place on this forum it would be great.
