New developer (site isn't actually launched yet, though) is apparently planning on making a trilogy of classic, 2d point-and-click adventure games for PC based on the history of Japan. Good luck to them, I guess.

Apologies if this has been mentioned before, but I've never heard of the game until today (when Eurogamer posted on it).

Critics' Lounge / Low-res Character
Mon 15/01/2007 03:42:27
Trying to get back to pixelling (despite never being very good at it in the first place):

(2x)

I'd like to add some definition to the face but have been unable to do so while keeping its appearance halfway decent.

Any & all comments & criticism would be appreciated on these two.

EDIT: Oh yeah, if anyone has a suggestion for a decent color for the guy's shirt (as if you notice right now it's the same as the girl's) then please tell me.

Critics' Lounge / Forest Path Background
Tue 27/09/2005 02:24:45

(2x)

Any comments, criticism, etc, would be great.  :-* As I'm going to be doing at least a few more backgrounds of this forest, I'd prefer more general comments than the specific composition (is that the right word?) of the image (e.g. how the grass looks rather than the placement of a tree).

Ideas on how to make the path look more like, well, a path would be good, too.

Also, can everyone see the farthest back trees? They should look like just some dark lines towards the top of the image.

Finally, on a somewhat unrelated note: my copy of Photoshop displays colors rather oddly; for example, the saturation was apparently much lower in this image than Photoshop was displaying (I upped it about +30 for this display) and I've had hue problems as well. Any ideas as to why this is? It's a relatively new copy of CS2... luckily I still my old version 3 to depend on when the new guy fails me.

Critics' Lounge / Polar Bear Walkcycle
Sun 27/06/2004 20:56:02

I've been working on this walk cycle for an hour or two, and now my eyes hurt, and I can't tell what's wrong with it. Aside from the fact he's running in slow motion, of course. And the fact that he has no face or toes and the texture looks bad... that's just a placeholder until I can get the damn animation right. I think the legs really screwed up are the back left and front right. So... what do you think's wrong with it? Any suggestions on how to improve the animation (or maybe my chances of regaining sanity?)

Excuse me while I import a Moho logo into UT and blast the crap out of it. Don't get me wrong, I love the program, but... ARG! ARG! ARG ARG ARG ARG ARG! Goodbye.

PUZZLE TIME

Rules: Every week a post will be made with a list of items and a scenario. Using your wit, skill and lack of mental health; find a way to complete the scenario with the items provided. You can only use a set number of items of your own choice. When I say use your skill, use it. For example: you have a boulder and a reinforced window. I advise not using Pick Up boulder chuck through window. Think of something adventuresque to use
Voting: After the week voting shall commence!
What If I win?: The winner chooses the next scenario and list of items.

Scenario

A bungling, amateur archaeologist has gotten himself trapped inside an ancient temple after recovering (not stealing!) a priceless artifact. The entrance is now blocked by a huge stone slab, though a space big enough for a man to crawl through can be seen, and water is pouring in through a hole in the floor, likely from the river you saw outside early. Four large statues are found in the corners of the room, each reaching near the ceiling. In the hands of each of the statues is a basin filled with water and man-eating piranhas, currently immobile, but deadly once the water level reaches them - and they are lower than the ceiling or the slab's opening. Near one of the statues, a full skeleton lies with a bow and arrow in hand. Large vines cover the floor. The little light in the room comes from a skylight in the ceiling and your lamp. You must escape.

Items

Shovel
Compass
Map To Temple
Kerosene Lamp
Revolver (w/ 4 rounds)
Pocket Knife
Priceless Artifact
Skeleton (any parts of it)
Bow
Arrow
Stick
Parrot
Large Vines
Python
Altar
Statues (4)
Skylight
Stone Slab (blocking exit)
Hole in Floor
Water
Basins (4)
Pirranhas
Small Stones
+ ONE (1) item of your choice.

Hopefully we'll see more participation this week. I tried to leave open lots of possibilities. If you don't like it, feel free to "Use Revolver with Redwall".

Old:

Looking for some comments & criticism.

I'm not really happy with his pants, and I cannot for the life of me draw a beret. (Yeah, that's supposed to be a beret.) He's a futuristic smuggler in the employ of a military group; he's trying not to look too conspicuous, hence the beret and boots. Also, he's supposed to be a somewhat older guy - 40's - but I have no clue how to show that.

(This is actually the same pilot character I posted a long time ago - although he looks completely different now.)

[Edit: Ach, I noticed a few places where the outline/shading is interrupted... I thought I got them all, but apparentely not. In any case, imagine they're there until I can get a new version up.]

SEE POST AT END OF PAGE FOR WALK CYCLE
------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm looking for some C&C on this character (Kyojo):

It's based on this character (not by me), the original Kyojo:

He couldn't move around very well like that, you see.

Photoshopping isn't drawing a completely new image -- It's editing images to create a new image, such as editing one image or combining several images.

Also, you don't have to specifically use Photoshop -- Paint Shop Pro, MSPaint, or any other programs can be used.

-------------------------------------

This week's topic is inspired by all the recent talk of the death of Chris Jones. You have three options for your pic:

a) how you would kill Chris Jones (rotten ungrateful bastard!)
b) how you would protect Chris Jones (greedy little bugger!)
c) what Chris Jones' funeral would look like (morbid creep!)
d) any combination of the above (wait! that's four!)

Sorry for being a day late, I never expected to win.
Get to work, you have until next Friday, the 20th. :) I hope to see some original entries.

Buy your own US Navy Blue Angels F/A-18 Hornet for the low introductory price of $850,000.

Or perhaps a Huey for only $85,000?

No bids have been placed yet, they're ripe for the taking!

Will we ever be able to change custom properties by script?

In repeatedlyexecute() I have:

string location;
GetLocationName(mouse.x,mouse.y,location);
SetLabelText(0,0,location);

Now, I would think that would make Label Object 0 of GUI 0 display the location the mouse cursor is currently at. However, it doesn't seem to display anything. I've tried it with objects and hotspots. I think I must be missing something really obvious. Any help please?
