Challenge of the Tentacle is a free point and click escape room adventure fangame inspired by Maniac Mansion, Day of the Tentacle and Maniac Mansion Mania.

Story

On a beautiful morning with chirping birds and sunshine, it seems a new beautiful day begins for the whole world. But no one knows that a catastrophe could happen that day. An evil, tyrannical, purple tentacle wants to take over the world. On this seemingly wonderful morning, our well-known protagonist, Bernard, renowned physicist and chemist, wakes up muddled. He still doesn't know that on this day he has to prove that he is a genius and has not, like so many others, studied in vain. But he's starting to remember the Purple Tentacle's visit and their argument about world domination, which ended with a cup of tea, his heavy, drooping eyelids and Purple Tentacle's malicious grin.

He is locked in his bedroom with many puzzles provided by Purple Tentacle to challenge and prevent him.

Help Bernard to solve these challenging puzzles, because with each solved puzzle he gets a little closer to the key that opens the door and thus also to the means created in his laboratory with which he can save the world from conquest. Solve logical, amusing and motivating puzzles that challenge not only Bernard, but YOU as well.

Features

Inspired by Maniac Mansion, Day of the Tentacle and Maniac Mansion Mania.

Humorous game that combines point and click adventures with escape room tasks.

With many allusions to all adventures by LucasArts.

Various types of puzzles, from classic inventory usage to brain teasers.

You will find out the result of your performance at the end of the game: very good, good, satisfactory or bad.

And the best at the end: it costs nothing! It helps curb inflation!

Hi,

I have a weird problem with the keys. Esc key should make the menu visible.
But when I press ctrl or alt then the esc key doesn't work that the menu pops up. I mean, you press ctrl, then esc, nothing happens. If you press any key of a letter then esc again, the menu reappears. As if crtl and alt would make the esc key inactive. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? Debug mode is false.

Recruitment / [HELP FOUND] Looking 4 testers
Sun 26/06/2022 19:43:54
Hi,

I'm looking for 2-3 testers to test my game "Challenge of the Tentacle" it's a short game, you can play through in 20 minutes if you have the resolutions. There are also hints in the game and there is me too :)

It's important that the testers not only play, but also look for bugs. The game will be ready tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. I ask the testers not to take more than 2 days. I want to publish it as soon as possible.
It's a free AGS game. If anyone is interested, please send me a PM or comment here.

Check it out here

Edit: I found some. Thank you.

Edit: I still need just one tester. Who else wants?

Edit: I found some again. Thank you.

Hi,

I noticed that the speech volume in the game is lower than the audio files. I guess 20% lower. I tried SetSpeechVolume(255); but that didn't help.
Is there a trick to make the speech volume as loud as the audio file?

MP3 is the type of my audio files. Version 3.5.1.18.

Hi,

When I use Game.ChangeTranslation("English"); the translation does not change in winsetup and in the game as well, when I change it and exit the game then start it again, it hasn't changed. When I do that from the winsetup then I change it again in game then I get a mixture of English and German sprites in the game. Is that a bug in 3.5.1.18 version or am I doing something wrong? I thought it was all auto-saved  ??? I didn't have this problem with AGS 3.4.3. Does anyone know why? please help, I can not release it like that.

Hello,

I still have my last puzzle in the game where you have to match objects (or hotspots), with an OK button you have to click on it when you have matched to see if it's wrong or right. I have a complicated idea how to do this, using lines as objects. But it's complicated and takes a lot of work and time. I thought differently, I could maybe do it with drawing lines. when the left mouse button is pressed the mouse moves while the button is still down, a line is drawn between where you clicked and you let go the mouse button.

Something like that here: (this is not my puzzle ;-D)

I found this ancient code in this thread, since 2004. It looks like it's right for my puzzle but it doesn't work anymore. https://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=12390.msg148534#msg148534

I tried to fix it but the commands are from the Jurassic period.
Has anyone written or used some similar code before, or maybe there's a module I haven't discovered yet?

Hello,

Is it possible to get an anti-aliased WFN font from a TTF like Detective Gallo's font? Khris and Rulaman's tools are great but don't support anti-aliasing, the font looks a bit pixelated with corners and not round.

Hi,

could a native English speaker check the description of my new game? (Edit: Not The Secrets of Jesus) I'm not sure about an adjective and some commas. Reading takes 30 seconds.

Thanks.

Hi,

As you can see in some games, most of the time at the menu on the background image. The pupils follow the mouse cursor.
I made a walkable area in the eyes 2 circles then made something little transparent and pupils as characters. I tried to do something like this:

In the room c.Fakemouse.Transparency = 100;

and

Code: ags

function repeatedly_execute()
{
cEyes.FollowCharacter(cFakemouse, 1, 1);
cFakemouse.x = mouse.x;
cFakemouse.y= mouse.y;
}

It's not so bad but the problem is that the pupils move sometimes constantly because they want to follow the mouse cursor and cannot leave the walkable area. for example, when the cursor is in the lower center, the pupils go down but move right and left all the time, as I said because they want to get out. I don't really like it that much.

Another thought: views of animating pupils and depending on the position of the mouse cursor x and y. But the movement of the pupils will look terrible.
Does anyone have a smarter idea?

I would like to do the same thing too, so that character's eyes follow the main character when he walks past. I think that would be the same technique. But pupils follow the mouse cursor is more important to me.

Jesus has arrived. The Secrets of Jesus is now released.
It was really a long way. I put my heart and "soul?" into this game. I hope you like it.
Its 10% off for the first week.

The Secrets of Jesus is a classic point & click adventure game, which tells an old tale in a completely new manner.
What if Jesus had been able to escape his crucifixion? Would he escape the Romans, who are still bent on enforcing their death sentence? Or maybe even start a family with his great love? Just slip into his role and figure it out! But before it is time to settle down with his beloved lady, there is still a lot to do. There are a lot of riddles to be solved and secrets to be revealed while searching for a missing person.

AGS Games in Production / The Secrets of Jesus
Sun 16/06/2019 17:02:27
Salute guys,

I'd like like to present my new game to you. As you can see, my avatar is Jesus – the most famous man in the world –the game revolves around him.

You play Jesus' role, who is sought again by the Romans because he survived the crucifixion. Therefore, he wants to leave the Holy Land, but firstly, he must find a missing person to be able to escape. Hence, he embarks the role of a detective.

Some of you would debate I'm crazy, tampering with such a sensitive subject, which is why I've tried to make the game fun for the believers and non-believers. I aimed to make it comical/funny, leaving the final verdict to you.
I picked this topic because I was a well-versed religious Christian, which earned me vast experience and biblical knowledge.
The game contains dark comedy, many jokes, numerous quotes, allusions and characters from the Bible. I hope you like it!

It will definitely come soon on Steam in English and German. I also want to release it DRM free, I will try with GOG although I'm certain I stand no chance at GOG, maybe at itch.io.

Steam page. Wishlist now. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1142230/The_Secrets_of_Jesus/

English Trailer

There is also a German trailer, you can watch it and understand nothing.  ;-D

Cheers

Hi,

Code: ags
function room_LeaveRight()
{
cJesus.ChangeRoom(12, 55, 695, eDirectionRight);
SetNextScreenTransition(eTransitionCrossfade);
}

Music stutters when changing room with SetNextScreenTransition, without SetNextScreenTransition it dosnt stutter (Default transition fadeout/in). It stutters only once and only if the music continues in the next room.

Is there any solution to this problem?

Hello,

any ideas how i can stop the animation of the mouse cursor on hotspots, objects and charackters during a dialog?

what i tried is: mouse.ChangeModeView(eModeInteract, -1);  , mouse.Mode = eModeUsermode1 ,
if (IsGamePaused()) mouse.Mode = eModeUsermode1;  and also somethings like that
if (gDialogbox == true)
{
  mouse.Mode = eModeUsermode1;
}

But the mouse cursor continues to animate. It animates in the dialog area and outside on hotspots, objects and charackters.

Some information:

v3.4.1
32-bit (true-colour)
