General Discussion / Remember the Recorder?
Wed 03/01/2007 05:15:29
Remember the Recorder? That plastic wannabe instrument thing you played in 3rd grade that you gave up on after failing learning "Mary Had A Little Lamb" and breaking too much fine glassware by shreiking piercingly into the thing like it was some sort of low noise sensitive electric shock mechanism?

I used to think the recorder was the work of the devil's two hands themselves.  But just now, I actually found out about a virtuoso recorder player, Michala Petri.  http://www.michalapetri.com/
She takes this stick of doom and blows into it to create an amazing sound.  I'm even now inspired to go back to the bowels of my garage and find the recorder I tried playing with back in elementary school.  I know AGS hosts a ton of musicians, and I thought I could share this find with you guys, cause it sure opened my mind to the recorder.

General Discussion / So what did I miss?
Wed 19/10/2005 05:25:08
Well, this is the first time I've logged on in like 7 months. I'm pretty mad at myself for not coming back here so often. You guys are all great, I just had to come back.  I won't be making many games, but I'll still be hanging out in general/cc forums.

Just posting this to say hey to everyone I used to work with/talk to/troll.

General Discussion / Make a South Park you!
Mon 04/04/2005 22:52:39
South Park Studio!

Hours of fun, especially if you watch the show.

(That's me!)

You can't save it as an image file, so use Print Screen.

I won by default. That's good enough for me  :=

For this week, we're trying something new. Any genre you want. But here's the catch:
You must record your own samples, and they need to come from your mouth.

You can add effects, mess around with the pitch, whatever.  All I care about is that the samples are orally generated sound effects.

I happen to have an example that I did a while ago.  I recorded all the sounds, added (too many) effects and messed around with them using the FL 4 piano roll.

(Note: When making your song, please don't use as much reverb as I did  :P )

Have fun.

General Discussion / What's up with this?
Sat 26/03/2005 03:19:12
This is pretty weird (and stupid :P )
I got on the computer, and I saw that my quick-launch bar is basically covering up my entire taskbar. So I can't see the little buttons that show my active windows at all, and I need to do Alt-Tab to switch all my tasks.\\

See, that's my quick launch bar, and it's covering up all the buttons that show all the programs I'm running.

I probably can live without is being fixed, but it's really annoying.  I tried resizing it and everything, but it would work.  I've basically tried everything I can.  If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it.

The answer's probably really obvious :P

Workage.  It's the same as work, but it sounds better and with half the fat!

Anyway, I was messing around a bit, and I generated this little number here.

I'd appreciate some C&C.  Thanks.

General Discussion / Pizzicato Patch Desired
Fri 19/11/2004 05:34:47
Hi.

I don't ask for much, but I really would like to have a Pizzicato String patch that I can use in Fruity Loops.  I was wondering if anyone had one that they could send to me.  Preferrable Wav or Xi.
I would use SoundFonts, but the SF player in FL is only a Demo version, so it can't be saved :P

Thanks  :)

General Discussion / And the Red Sox win!
Thu 28/10/2004 04:51:21
Well, finally the Boston Red Sox win the World Series.
I just finished watching the game, and I'm pretty happy for them.

Of course, this breaks "the curse or the Bambino" (a few of you will know what I'm talking about) that has been busting their luck for 86 years.
I went to a Baseball game in Boston over the summer, and it's the fan loyalty there is amazing.  I can only imagine how hectic it must be over there right now.

Props to the Boston Red Sox, the new champions of Major League Baseball.

I was going to make a halloweenie-style song, but then I thought some latin beats would be cool in it, so there they go.

What do you think?

Disclaimer: I'll admit, I have no knowledge of IRC Bot Programming.

I have a suggestion for Roger.

Say that I wanted to find out if people were talking about me behind my back.

I envision something like this:

<rtf>Roger mentioned rtf
<Roger>rtf was last mentioned 3 days, 2 hours ago by CJ_ saying "If anyone deserves the nobel prize, it would have to be rtf"

Again, I don't know how you were to implement that, but I thought it was worth the suggestion (as you can see it's possibilities).

What do you think?

Another crazy idea to show off organizational skills:

That's right.Ã,  Ã, Post a picture (or a link to a picture) of your desktop,Ã,  right now.Ã,  Don't clean it up, rename anything, or delete anything you don't want to be shown.  Just take a screenie right now. :D

    I decided to write a template.

I call it "AGS Left and Right Click Open Source Template", or "ALARCOST".

    You know how a lot of people want to know how to write games where "Left Click" is Interact and "Right Click" is Look?  Well, I've decided to feed the masses.

   Left click is interact (talk, use, useinv), and Right click is look.  That's all.  It's a very simple template.  It has the code for the mouse-clicks, and it has a small puzzle, too (so you can test it in action.).
   This was made for people who want that kidn of mouse interface, but don't want to script it.  Size is 640 X 400.

Get it here.

Read the readme, too.

Have fun.  :D

Advanced Technical Forum / Character Regions
Tue 27/07/2004 18:46:08
Hi.
Another question.

Is it possible to have seperate regions of a character.

For example, I have a character, and I want it so when another character collides with him in a certain location of the sprite, a certain variable will be changed.
Follow?

Thanks  :)

Hi.

Is there a special function for mouse wheel support?
Something like:

IsWheelScrolling()

In my game, I'm making it so you could scroll EGO up and down using the mouse wheel, as well as the keyboard,

Thanks

Well, I was supposed to make this script for another forum member who needed help, but I guess I need some help too.  :P

It's a script for an interface like Perils of Poom.  (Left click on nothing: walk to.  Left Click on something: Interact.  Right click on anything: Look

int overhotspot;

__________________________________________

function repeatedly_execute() {
  // put anything you want to happen every game cycle here
  if ((overhotspot == 0) && (GetHotspotAt(mouse.x, mouse.y)) || (GetCharacterAt(mouse.x, mouse.y)) || (GetObjectAt(mouse.x, mouse.y))){
//if the mouse is over a hotspot, object, or character

    overhotspot = 1;
    }
  else{ //if the mouse isn't over a hotspot, object, or character
    overhotspot = 0;
  }
}

function on_mouse_click(int button) {
  if (IsGamePaused() == 1) {
    // Game is paused, so do nothing (ie. don't allow mouse click)
  }
  else if (button==LEFT) {
       if (overhotspot == 1){
      if (GetCursorMode() == MODE_USE){
    ProcessClick(mouse.x, mouse.y, MODE_USE);
     }
   else if(GetCursorMode() == 4){
     ProcessClick(mouse.x, mouse.y, 4);
     SetCursorMode(MODE_USE);
     }
   }
   else if(overhotspot == 0){
     ProcessClick(mouse.x, mouse.y, MODE_WALK); //This is what isn't working
     }
  }
  else if (button==RIGHT) {  //Look at the thing.
    ProcessClick(mouse.x, mouse.y, MODE_LOOK);
    }
  }

The problem is that when I left-click on nothing, where I'm supposed to walk, nothing happens.(if you were reading the comments, you'd be way ahead of me  ;)  )

Everything else works perfectly.

Help?

I have always wondered, which Adventure Game puzzle did you like, or hate, the most?

By this question I mean, which puzzle in any Adventure Game do you think is the most logical, or best fits the story, or best implemented, or whatever.  Any game.  Commercial, underground, you name it.  Or it can be the least logical, and most annoying.

My favorite is in the SLUDGE game, "Out of Order."
Spoiler
When you have to hack into the admin computer using the code you found in the newspaper.  That was ingenious.
