Alrighty, thank you to all who voted in this year's Foregos, and for all of you who didn't: for shame! :P Oh well, there's always next year.

In case you just joined, The FOREGO Awards are similiar to the AGS Awards, yet instead of voting for AGS Awards, we instead vote for AGS community members in various categories, such as Best Contribution to Gen-Gen and Funniest AGSer.

Once again, thank you to the following people:

 • Farlander for making the award picture to the left
 • Darth Mandarb for awesomely offering to make us a website.
 • Al_Ninio  for tabulating the votes and generally being awesome. ^_^

The 2004 FOREGO Awards

After an initial delay, welcome to this year's FOREGO Awards, brought to you by Dart (me), Al_Ninio (nominations), Darth Mandarb (website work) and Farlander (future graphics)!

What are the FOREGOs?

The FOREGOs are like the AGS Awards, except instead of nominating games for certain categories, we nominate AGS members. They are a way of recognizing and congratulating those in our community who break the mold.

What are the categories?

The complete list of the 2004 FOREGOs Categories can be found here.

How can we nominate?

To nominate, copy the code found here and give me (Dart) a PM with your nominations. You can only nominate up to three AGS members in each category. And remember, you do not have to fill out every category, but it's recommended. :)

When does nomination end? And when does voting begin?

Nomination for the FOREGOs will end in about two weeks time from now on March 31st. At this time, the nominations will be tabulated for each category and the five most prominent candidates in each category will move onto the voting stage. When voting begins is yet to be determined.

The Official 2004 Website: http://www.twin-design.com/ags/foregos/
If you need any clarification about the awards, feel free to give me a PM or reply to this thread.

Happy nominating! :D

Well, you've seen that other Hansel and Gretel picture of mine, and here now is the witch's gingerbread cottage, used to entice the wee laddie and lassie.

I've been looking at this picture for quite a while now and I can't find anything wrong with it. But, maybe you can, which is why I need your help.

By the way, the shading was done by Daz, so props to him. :)

Critics' Lounge / Hansel and Gretel cottage
Sat 06/11/2004 23:10:45
Well, I haven't visited the Critic's Lounge in quite a while.... the reason being that I haven't been working on my farming game. Anyway for now, as a break, I'm working on a new game that I hope to finish in a couple of months: a Hansel and Gretel AGS remake. I need help with drawing their cottage:

In particular, I need help with the shading and perspective. I want the cottage to cast off a shadow from the sun, yet I don't know how I could successfully accomplish this. Also, I've been told that the door's perspective is off, and the flowers look flat, but I don't know how to fix those problems either.

Thanks in advance for your help.

First off, I'm sorry that I started this competition a little later then I should have; I didn't know I won, and it wasn't until Daz pointed it out that I did.

Anyway, while I was notified of this, I happened to be searching through this gaming website to find more information about an X-Box game, Fable. Y'see, Fable is this game where you get to choose whether your character is extremely evil, or extremely good and pleasant and all of that kind of junk.

With this game still in my mind, I present to you this week's theme:

TOPIC - Draw yourself as a character who's either extremely evil or extremely good
SIZE - Anything less than 200 x 200 pixels
COLOURS - 256 Colours (Happy now?)

SUGGESTIONS - A cold-hearted hitman or a devil (for extremely evil), an angel or a noble-hearted prince/princess (for extremely good)

Go forth, my young spriters!

Heh... It's been a while since I last visited the Critics Lounge. Nonetheless, here is what was promised: a living room to C&C (huzzah)!Ã,

2x:

http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/dartliving11.png (Non-shaded 2x)
http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/dartliving22.png (Shaded 2x)

As you can see, I've uploaded two versions of the living room; one without shading, the other one with. Basically, I'm having trouble shading my backgrounds, so maybe y'all could tell me if I shaded correctly in the second picture? Also, is there anything wrong with the colour scheme? Objects? Perspective?

Please note: the door won't always be black. It is right now since I haven't drawn the kitchen yet, and that door will lead into the kitchen.

Once again, thank you in advance for all your comments and criticisms.

Well, E3 2004 pre-show has come and gone, and here are the results:

Check out the Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker 2 and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes trailers.

No more cel-shadedness. Hurrah.

Thanks goes out for everyone who helped me in the past and to also to Mari, who helped me out with the perspective of this thing... at least, I think the perspective is okay... or maybe it isn't... but that's why you're all here, right?

Anyway, on with the show:

2x:

Any comments would be welcome...  Particulary, I'm worried about the trees - something seems quite odd with them. Should I add shadows to this piece since there's no sun? Should there be more objects added on? Taken off? The grass by the barn and by the well look kind of funny, but how do I fix them? Also, please comment on whether the perspective is correct or not.

I know the edges of the background are kind of messed, and there's this huge blue dot in the sky, but I'll fix them later.

Thanks for your help; it's very much appreciated.

Now here I grant you my second room - first the barn, and now the bedroom.

1x:

2x:

It has some perspective issues (especially the doorway), as well as shading/lighting issues, but I don't know how to fix them. =/ Also, I feel that more items could be added, yet I don't know which items. Keep in mind that my game is supposed to be set in the 1900's, so no electronic items.

As always, your help is greatly appreciated.

EDIT: Thanks for all of your ideas. I think I've finally realized how to use perspective in rooms (what I needed to know most), so thanks a lot, Mari.  :)

Sorry I didn't update this room yet, but skateboarding/school/archery takes up most of my time. Expect an update on Friday or Saturday, though.

Howdy. This here is my first background of a cow barn.

1x:

2x:

I'm not too sure about the lighting around the candles and window. Is is too much? Too little? Also, the edges around the cows look choppy, and the crate at the bottom right seems out of place.

And about the room itself; it seems plain. I think I need to add more items to it, but since I'm not a farmer, I have no idea what I should put inside of a cow barn. I can't put any electrical items in it because the game takes place in the early 1900's.

Any help is appreciated.
