Hi all,
sorry for the lack of my presence recently, ive been pretty hectic between doing freelance work and looking for full-time work. Been putting together a PDF portfolio to showcase my work whilst my websites being redone! Here's a few examples, let me know what y'all think :) (P.S: these are only at 25% of the full resolution, hence the illegible text)):

General Discussion / I'm not dead!
Thu 13/07/2006 16:38:44
Hey guys,

I've been pretty busy upto now, just finished my BA and whatnot (i'm now Dan Clarke BA (hons 1st class). Been working with a band called Vinny Peculiar, and i was asked by them to create an interactive website to promote their new album. Bearing in mind i was under some quite srict deadlines, and i'd never really used Flash before, i'm happy enough with the results.

The only things missing are the preloaders, and it's a bit sparse in places as i'm planning to add to it over the summer. All artwork etc was created by myself and was inspired a lot by the old LucasArts adventures. Let me know what you think:

Meanwhile it's back to the slog on TLOTLL, and various sprite jam/BG blitz entries :D

I've been busy working on these for a website i'm maing for my final project, thought the style might interest folks:

Concepts:

A few final paintovers (in various stages of completion, i'm not happy with the garden really, so i'll be overhauling it in a lot of places.):

What do you think? Comments/crit as always appreciated.

Hey all,

firstly sorry if this is in the wrong catagory, i didn't want to post it in tech as it's not ags related. I'm struggling with something that's seemingly quite simple in flash, so if anyone can help me out i'd be uber-grateful.

I'm having problems with the 'if' commands. For example, i want to create scenes where a movie clip will only play IF 1 button or more has been pressed, or only if a certain criteria has been satisfied. Anyone who can help me out will be greatly rewarded!*

PM me or post in here if you can help

Cheers

Dan :)

*no actual prize, reward contains gratitude and thanks only.

before you shut this thread, im not looking for a copy of the game, as i do own it, i've just misplaced it hence the need of this favour...

This may sound quite obscure, but i'm in need of a piece of audio from the game which would need to be ripped or recorded using a program like Wiretap or something similar. The particular piece is the music which plays on the radio in the trailer of the guy that ben knocks out when he kicks the door down ( i think it's in the Melon-somthing area). There's a country style song which can be heard, it sounds like a radio broadcast.

Anyone who can get me this in an mp3/wav or similar file will have a favour owed to them by me!

Let me know if you can do this either here or via PM, i'd be extremely grateful.

I'm doing an TV ident for a project, and i'm trying to emulate a child like style of drawing, whilst at the same time retaining some manga-tamagotchi style cuteness to it. I've done a few doodles and this is what i've come to so far:

Drawn it onto a paper texture and used some pastel shades underneath to make it look kinda hand drawn. I appreciate the stammer in this early version is a little too harsh but that'll be fixed. Any thoughts or crits?

General Discussion / ....I'm also a DJ!
Wed 22/02/2006 11:31:48
Well, as mentioned a while back on the podcast amongst other things i like to DJ! Had turntables for about 5 y-6 years and played in a few clubs, and in the last 6 months i converted completely to digital (using a laprtop, Ableton Live, a midi mixer and an external soundard). This is one of my recent mixes, it's about an hour long. Probably not to the tastes of most here, but it's there for all if you want to give it a go. It's a country mile from any commercial crap dance music, if that's any conselation:

EDIT: I've hosted a different mix as there's been a few technical faults with this one:

Hey all,
Just a quick question as im working on BGs atm. I know that with the jump from lucas games like monkey island and DOTT to something like sam n max, the resolution of BGS was able to go up from 320x200 to 320x240. I was just wondering if its possible that i can create all of my BGs in 320x200 and still use a sam n max style GUI that doesnt take up screen space?

I'd appreciate if you could clear this one up for me chaps.

Hey all, i figured we should have a pretty generous timelimit on this one given that people will be bound to be quite busy celebrating over the next 2 weeks,

The topic for this one is:

ELTON JOHN AND HIS LOVER Vs. THE AGS COMMUNITY

This is obviously a battle of epic proprtions so i'd like to see what you can all come up with.

Critics' Lounge / TLOTLL living room layout
Sun 11/12/2005 03:45:37
hey all, havent posted in here in a while so i thought i's put this up and ask for opinions. I found this a particularly tough toom to draw because i was restricted to a certain layout, and certain objects had to go in certainplaces etc. I really wanted to capture a cosy mood with the lighting too. Let me know what you all thnk. It's still rough and there are details to be added etc. Opinions and crits welcome.:

P.S: ive just noticed the top of the TV is a bit pissed perspective wise, so ill sort that for uture edits lol. :)

Im in the process of doing all the BGs for a house in part one of my game atm, and one of the things that struck me as difficult was actually laying out a house correctly so that it all fits together and makes sense. Ive been desinging hallways etc, and having to figure out widths of walls and floors etc so they correspond with rooms above or below can be quite a hefty task. Ive found a good way to deal with it is to draw a rough floorplan 1st, but there are also things like perspectives of rooms to consider, and continuity. (eg. if you walk left into one room you dont want the character appearing on the left side of the next screen.

Anyone else had this 'hurdle'?

Firstly stu sorry for stealing any attention from your post, i think your shirts a really nice design, very retro!

On the subject, this reminded me that im looking at the possibility of making some lucas style shirts, with 'scroll backgrounds' on them. It's something i thought of awhile back but sort of forgot about. here's a quick mock up to show what i mean:

If i could generate interest i'd look into doing them in different sizes and colours using topman (UK) plain tshirts. Theres plenty of scope in them for other designs, Sam n Max, COMI, DOTT, IJ:FOA etc.
