Hello fellow AGSers,

I have a kind of emergency and am in desperate need for some help with a translation from English to Spanish.
I work at my university at the office of international relations and take care of the students coming to the university with the Erasmus exchange programme. I've just received a call from my boss that a student has arrived from Spain who has absolutely no idea what to do next, but apparently only understands Spanish and unfortunately, no one at the office does. The problem now is that I have to meet her tomorrow morning and try to explain what she has to do next.
And this is where you guys come in. I would be eternally grateful if someone could translate the following short text into Spanish for me, so that I have a least something to give to her tomorrow:

"First of all, welcome to the University of Dortmund. Unfortunately, I don't speak Spanish so if you have any more questions I won't be able to answer them straight away, but I'm trying to contact the other Erasmus students from Spain to help you. So don't worry, I'm working on it.
The first and most important thing you have to do now is to register at the university of Dortmund. You can do this here, at the Office of International Relations, with me. You only have to bring a certificate of a German health insurance company. You can get this at one of the two insurance companies on campus, the AOK and the TK. Ask for a "Versicherungsbescheinigung" and make sure to bring an EU health insurance card or the form E111 from your health insurance company at home.
Everything else will be explained to you once I have found someone to translate for us.
I'll write you an email as soon as I have arranged everything, so please be sure to check your mail every now and again during the next couple of days. You can do so at the free terminals of the university (for example in the Audimax, Hörsaalgebäude II or the library).
Now don't worry and enjoy your first days here!"

As I said, if someone could help me out, even with small parts of the above text translated to Spanish, I would be most grateful.

Thsi Jam's theme is:
Extreme

Anything that could be associated with this adjective counts. This could be for example a guy with an extremely big head or some other extreme proportions, someone doing an extreme sport etc. You get the point. Be creative!

Since this is all about being extreme, I wanna see either some extremely small or extremely big sprites. So you can choose your restrictions:

Your sprite must be:
a) not bigger than 40x40
or
b) not smaller than 200x200

Colors: as many or as few as you want.

Happy spriting!

General Discussion / midi interface
Thu 09/03/2006 14:34:16
I recently got myself a very nice YAMAHA keyboard and now I am looking for a good and cheap usb midi interface to plug it into my computer. Is there anything you can recommend. The cheapest one I found was the Swissonic USB 1x1 for 19.90â,¬ at thomann.de(site is in German, but contains a picture). Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything else about it. There doesn't seem to be another shop that is selling those and I found no test results etc.
My questions now are: Does any of you have/know the Swissonic USB 1x1 or do you know whether it is any good? What other devices could you recommend?

Thanks in advance!

Critics' Lounge / bunny sprites for c&c
Thu 23/02/2006 15:25:46
Hey folks,

about a year ago my brother designed a bunny character for a game idea he had. I was a bit bored today and decided to turn his concept art into an actual sprite. Here it is:

1x 3x

Tell me what you think? Any c&c is much appreciated.
Thanks.

I've finally decided to start working on my game again. This is supposed to be the first screen of the intro.

1st version

I wanted to create a cosy, comfortable living-room on a dark and cold winter's night. It took me hours to get this far, but now I just can't go on without some c&c. There are still some things that I don't like and I'm very unsure about my lighting and shadows. Don't know how to improve it, though. Maybe you guys can help...
In game, the fire will be animated and I'm intending to have some snow falling down outside.
All c&c and paint-overs are more than welcome.

EDIT:
2nd version
3rd version
4th version
5th version
6th version
7th version
8th version
9th version

10th and finished version:

Thanks for all the help!  :-*

As you might have noticed 'A painter's journey' by Juliuz has been in production for some time now. I signed up to do the sprites ages ago and I've finally reached a stage to present them to this community and get some C&C on it.

This is Bob. He works in a factory which produces paint and he is the main character:

I'm still working on the back view...

This is Bob's boss:

This little fellow here plays an important part in the story, but I don't want to give away too much:

What do you think?

Hi,

my little brother got the assignment to list famous daily newspapers from all around the world. As a good big sister, I agreed to help him by asking here. So, which are the most famous or most common daily newspapers (not magazines and stuff) in your home country?

Thanks in advance

Hints & Tips / Noisy Mountain
Mon 15/08/2005 22:35:58
I already bought the condom, went into the chapel to get the flowers, but now I don't know what to do next. How do I get to the Schrottplatz?

I don't want to have the whole solution. Just a little tip would be nice.
Thanks.

Hey everyone,

I have to write an essay for school about Portugal. To find information about it on the net isn't difficult, but I don't just wanna write the "usual" stuff. I've never been to Portugal and I can't even remember meeting someone from Portugal. That's why I'm turning to YOU! Have you ever been to Portugal? Are you living in Portugal? Either way, you might be able to tell me something about this country that isn't easily found on the net, like what prejudices do other countries have towards Portugal (like towards Germany: bratwurst, lederhosen etc.). What is typical for Portugal and the people who live there? I wanna know just everything that comes to your mind when you hear the word "Portugal".

Thanks in advance

Critics' Lounge / yearbook page needs c&c
Tue 29/03/2005 11:08:49
Hey,

I've been working on this yearbook lately. This is supposed to be a template of a characterization page. Each member of my grade will get one with a little bio on it. The text and pics are just placeholders. Right now, I'm kind of stuck, so I could definitely use some c&c on it.

So what do you think of it? Anything to improve it, to make it look more interesting?

Here is what I have so far:

Critics' Lounge / My new character [updated]
Mon 07/02/2005 20:12:24
I'm working on a new game...again, which will be hopefully finished in time to join this month's MAGS. I already have a nice plot, but my main character gives me headaches. I've been working on him all day and tried several different styles and resolutions, but nothing seems to work right. Now my wrist hurts and I'm too tired to continue working today, so I thought I'd use the break wisely to get some feedback on him.

Here is what I have so far:
1st crappy version
2nd crappy version

The version used in the game:

Original:
1x 2x

Update 1:
1x 2x

Update 2:
1x 2x

Which version do you think is the best? How can I improve them? I've had a lot of difficulties with the pose, the face, the shadows, well, mainly with everything...  :'(
So please help me!

Advanced Technical Forum / Illegal exception
Thu 06/01/2005 19:40:00
I sent a game I've made to a friend, but when he tried to open it, he got the following error message:

---------------------------
Illegal exception
---------------------------
An exception 0xC0000005 occured in ACWIN.EXE at EIP = 0x004D7EBA ; program pointer is +0, ACI version 2.60.698, gtags (0,0)

AGS cannot continue, this exception was fatal. Please note down the numbers above, remember what you were doing at the time and notify CJ on the Tech forum.

Most versions of Windows allow you to press Ctrl+C now to copy this entire message to the clipboard for easy reporting.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

The game starts without any problems on my computer though...
What does it mean and how can the game be started?

Alright folks!
New Years Eve is coming and so I have the honor to set the topic for the last Sprite Jam of 2004 AND, as this competition is ending next year, also for the first Sprite Jam of 2005.

The end of the year is always a time when people decide to change their lifes in order to become better persons which leads us to the topic of this sprite jam:

New Year's resolutions and what they can do to people

I want you to draw a sprite of a person showing him/her before and after he/she set his/her New Year's resolutions and changed his/her life.

Restrictions:
All entries:
-must be funny, humorous, comical, hilarious etc.
-musn't be larger than 200x200 in total (meaning if you draw two sprites, one before and one after, both versions together have to be smaller.)

There are no colour restrictions!
You can either draw one or two sprites, but if you draw just one, find a way to illustrate how that person changed, because that's what it is all about here.

Example:
You could draw someone who used to have the size of a killer whale and is now as thin as a stick, but on second thought, it wouldn't be wise to draw this as I already suggested it...and it isn't very funny either  :P. Anyway, hope you'll come up with something better.

So, happy spriting!

I'm making a little interactable cartoon as a Xmas gift for a friend of mine. The resolution of my game is 640x480 at 16-bit color. My main character is 270x463 as it is a close-up shot of him and you can only see his head and torso.
When I start the game, his sprite is scaled up incredibly. I've checked the sprite properties and there it says: "This sprite is drawn for 320x200 and will be scaled up or down for other resolutions." I see that this is the reason why it is scaled up. My question now is: Is there any possibility to change the sprite's properties, so that it isn't scaled up anymore? I don't want to resize the image in my paint program to a smaller size, coz I don't wanna loose the detail in it.

Thanks in advance

Critics' Lounge / forest background needs c&c
Sun 19/12/2004 10:42:53
I have made this little forest background for my new game:

I used this tutorial. I'm quite satisfied with the overall look of it, but there are still some details that bother me, like the pathway for example. Any idea how I can improve this background?

Thx in advance

Critics' Lounge / Michelin in bikini
Sun 12/12/2004 11:19:07
I was assigned to put this guy:

in a very tight bikini. I tried to, but I'm not at all satisfied with my attempt. Just doesn't look tight enough. Any ideas how to improve it? Paint-overs are welcome  :P

Here is my version:
