General Discussion / Film Eff ups
Tue 08/03/2005 15:25:25
They happen all the time, but now it's time we all recognised the serious fuck ups made by the film industry, please post with your most hated or loved mistakes that made the final cut

My contribution is from Return Of The Jedi, when the rebels pull up from the death star II, and they face the entire Imperial fleet, watch closely, as the hundreds of tie fighters fly towards the screen, watch the bottom of the screen, where did those tie fighters come from?

(Edited by AGA to remove profanity from title.)

General Discussion / Star Wars Movies
Tue 22/02/2005 15:03:06
I might be wrong, but it seems to me that the new Star Wars movies are not of the same quality as the originals. Both in SFX and storylines. The value of the visuals is close to nil as the costumes and carachters are decidedly poor and rendered in CGI
they may be the best available visual effects available, but it's still obvious, to prove my point, consider this, in the Return of the Jedi the scene where the emperor lands on the death star II is filled with costumed extras in Imperial uniforms, and although it is true that they are plastic and decidedly basic, they are ten times more realistic and cooler than the scene in Ep II where all the CGI clones (no pun intended) march.
I believe that physical sets and mass produced costumes are more pleasing to the eye that CGI will ever be.
And the lack of consistency sickens me, I mean, wouldn't c-3po actually recognise Darth Vader as his master?, Why is Anakin so young when ep 1 is set fifty years before ep 4 and ep 3 is set 18 years before ep 4?
And a long time before ep 1 happened, there was a mandalorian war, which turned most jedi to the dark side. A jedi civil-war followed where most jedi were wiped out. even the jedi council on Coruscant was wiped out long before the films. so how exactly does Lucas expect to explain all this???
I think we'd be better off without prequels and maybe it would be better if Lucas didn't direct the new ones, I mean the Empire Strikes back was the best star wars film ever made, and Irvin Kerschner directed it.

In short, the new Star Wars saga (which funnily enough is an old one) is a complete mess.

General Discussion / armed police force
Mon 14/02/2005 12:24:38
It's recently becoming more topical in Ireland at the moment, but is it really neccesary, are guns the answer to problems with public order? I have only one view as I have never experienced armed police in everyday life. Does it work?, is it reliable? how many die each year due to shootings by armed police?

General Discussion / Downloads?
Wed 09/02/2005 15:39:57
Although the internet is littered with thousands of different game rom sites, there are few that actually serve their purpose well, for example, www.emuconnect.com is one of the few that works. Many others use pop-ups and porno to make you subscribe, leading to mailboxes full of SPAM, but it's now time we separated the chaff from the grain and really made a definitive list of the best download sites out there, and stopped getting caught with crap sites, who mislead the visitor into countless trojan horses etc. etc. Feel free to debate about the quality of these particular sites, and consider some for quick download times, low pop ups, porno (absence of) and libraries of roms.

My contribution is Emuconnect, which in my opinion is the fastest there is!, How about you? ::)

General Discussion / Handheld Head to Head
Tue 25/01/2005 14:49:16
Well, they've been released in Japan, and only now the regular magazines are discussing the PSP and DS battle for king of handhelds, but what do you think, which seems more exciting, enticing, and overall suits you P.S. feel free to talk about other handhelds i.e. gizmondo 'n stuff.

Here's some fuel to get you started:
1: pro PSP: The PSP has the most stylish look of any handheld, it takes away the childish stigma that comes with handhelds, and the whole "pocket" idea has been cleverly replaced with the more adult, "portable". It has a similar graphical power to the PS2 and is set to carry the torch for future handheld markets.

2: anti-PSP: The PSP is an incrediblly tediously built machine, by using a defective cooling system used in vaio laptops, and by it's incredibly short battery life, it's set to sink.

3: pro-DS: The nintendo DS is the pinnacle of nintendo's handhelds, who better to take it into the adult market than the king of handhelds. Nintendo will win with it's established IP and long list of quality launch titles.

4: Anti-DS: The DS is a piece of crap, it is badly made and rushed. It was designed as a competitor to the PSP between SONY's 2003 meeting and E3 2004. It is hardly worth owning, due to it's silly design, bad graphics, size and ergonomics, DS? must stand for door stop.

(note these are only for goading you into replying, my mind will be made up later)

( any game review scores are not to be quoted from and official licenced magazines such as cube and p2 magazine, as they are nothing but adverts for their selected platforms, if you want to quote, quote EDGE (the king) and Games tm or something like that) :=

General Discussion / Books V.S. Movies
Tue 18/01/2005 15:40:27
What books are poorly represented on screen? there are plenty of films which don't do their source material justice, to start off, we'll discuss Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton. all other films/books or whatever are welcome, regardless of language.

see ya soon  :=

It's about time that he gave up, He's already ruined three f1 seasons, and nobody seems to care anymore. I propose that we group together, as we are an international band of people capable of ruining his career, It aint goin to be easy, but we can sure as hell try.
I'm going to need snipers, Pyromaniacs, ex- KGB agents and a hell of a load of thumb tacks. If you wish to get rid of Formula one's most hated driver ( one who has no surprises up his sleeve) you've come to the right place. To join the I've had enough of that poncey, overrated german winning every single feckin race club, call 1800- schumi will die

*calls cost â,¬50,000,000 per minute, each additional minute is free.

c'mon there's got to be more like me out there. 8)

now for a more worthwhile one, After all the bull**** regarding LucasArts and their cancellation of Sam N' Max 2 I think it's high time we made some noise but how? Hatemail? Boycotting their products? kidnapping of key personnel? Decapitated race horses? (or in this case white bunnies and dogs) turning up in George Lucas' bed? Cause they've f***ed with us for the last time, I mean after Star Wars ep 1 and 2 and the complete sh** that was monkey island 4, I think it's time for a revolution, I think it's time we accepted that Star Wars ep 3 is going to be crap anyway and did something about this bull***t

C'mon, who's with me?

What in your opinion was the best (this includes graphics, wit, storylines etc) point 'n click of the 90's, cause if I had my way, it'd be Beneath a steel sky for its dialogues, so funny, and Gilbert Lamb geez that guy made me laugh. How bout you?
