General Discussion / Fallout Online
Wed 02/09/2009 15:17:51
I know there's some Fallout fans in here and they might not know of this, it's an mmo by some russian guys. It uses the graphics from Fallout 2 and there's an open beta test going on. I've been playing it for a week or so and it's pretty fun. There's only a couple of small quests but there are professions and item crafting. There are two games using the engine:

Fallout: The Life After (in both russian and english, but it seems a lot of npcs only talk russian)
Fallout: 2238 (only in english)

Each game has it's own server, you can find me on 2238, name is "upheaval"

PS even if you've played the old fallout games, you should at least take a look at the mining/crafting part of the manual because some things don't work as you would expect. Also, be prepared to die and loose your stuff, it can happen often in the wasteland.

Didn't have any good ideas myself so i decided to steal one from Geratuza:

So as you get shrunk down and get to explore your favorite miniature world, you will undoubtedly make some enemies. They can be stuff like ticks, viruses, intestinal parasites or whatever you can think of.

No restrictions except it has to be usable as a sprite in an adventure game.

The only example i can think of now is Thrax, the virus from the animation film Osmosis Jones:

Critics' Lounge / angry head

Well i recently started drawing on paper, esp heads in different expressions and figured i should try and pixel some. Anyway i need some help, mostly on the hair but maybe the anatomy and shading also need improvement.

EDIT:

i'd forgotten to add teeth:

Theme: Prehistory

Draw stuff that was here before written history. Anything goes as long as it would make sense in an adventure game.

Restrictions: size should be workable in ags

Hope this isn't too cliche, i really can't think of anything better now.

Good luck everyone!

Voting starts 24th Jan 2009, unless more time is requested.
The voting will be done in these categories:

Idea - The underlying idea to the background. Doesn't
necessarily have to coincide perfectly with the theme of the
week, just strike you as interesting/amusing/inspiring; a place
you'd really enjoy visiting within a game.

Atmosphere - How well the image manages to evoke a certain feeling or mood.

Design - How well the elements in the image are designed,
such as landscapes, buildings, decorations, clouds, doorknobs,
etc.

Composition - How well the elements in the image work
together/are positioned in relation to each other.

Functionality - How well it would work when adding sprites,
including appropriate walking distances, a good angle for
character sprites, clever walkway solutions, easily understood
exits, etc.

Technique - How well the ideas are executed in form of
rendering.

Critics' Lounge / sprites for my rts
Fri 13/06/2008 09:53:12
I'm doing this rts which is supposed to be done in about 10 days or something and i'm kind of rushing the graphics cause i need to get all the coding done first. The setting is kind of futuristic, i also have robots. Here are some of my first sprites, i'm trying get some kind of comical pixelated look cause it seems easier for me.

They're supposed to be: command center, supply depot, gold mine and some unit. The unit sprite is just for reference, i don't want to change it much cause i've already animated it.

The buildings are all grey cause when they're done i need to add team specific colours(maybe the roofs?)

For the supply depot(second), the door is supposed to be closed but i don't know what colour to use, if i make it lighter it looks bad i think

Also the gold mine looks like crap. I'm not even sure i want to make a gold mine, i just need a resource structure where units can enter and come out with something. And i don't want something that you need to build on top to be operational(like for gasses in starcraft)

So yea, all your suggestions are welcome

Ok so the new theme is: your childhood hero
It has to be usable as adventure game characther and have no background. If it's from a computer game you need to have a different approach at him/her.
There are no size or colour limits but the sprite has to be usable in a lo-res adventure game.
Umm i have no example to show you but i think i'll do one myself later.
