Hints & Tips / Cold Meat
Mon 05/10/2009 23:16:11
I'm supposed to...
Spoiler
...use heat expansion/cold contraction in order to get the "stone oven" (tombstone) out.
[close]
But how? I've tried all possible combinations involving:
Spoiler
1. turning hotplate on, by placing a frozen burger on it
2. turning the oven on, by placing the freezer pack inside it (it'll just get warmer)
3. turning both of these things off.
[close]
No luck. What am I doing wrong?

I don't know if this is old news to you guys (in which case you should just ignore this), but I was quite surprised when I read this at gamasutra today:
http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=23858

The company developing the sequel (called Tales Of Monkey Island) is Telltale:
http://www.telltalegames.com/monkeyisland

***

In parallel, Lucas arts is also working on a Monkey Island: Special Edition, a makeover of the original that will allegedly "bring the game into the modern era",according to Gamasutra's review.
Check out the hot site: http://www.lucasarts.com/games/monkeyisland/

In my oppinion, Mr. Treepwood is looking a tad too much like a surfer "dude". Oh, well.

::Mars Cafe::

°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°||°º¤ø,¸,ø¤º°`°

"- Welcome, fraaaaktameee (space traveler). Welcome to my cafe..."
- says Urk, the owner of Mars Cafe.

This is one of the most famous places in the galaxy and a well deserved
treat for all sorts of tired travelers. Mr. Urk makes sure he (it) receives
each one with a smile (or something resembling a smile). It's a nice place,
in a weird kind of way.

"- Please take of your skrrrrtfaaa (coat) and take a jooork (seat). Relax, yes?"

After he (it) shows you to your table, he (it) stands (seats, crouches or wathever)
next to you, hands over the menu and continues: "Ah! I recomend the martian ooze...
is quite fresh and tasty today, yes? Enjoy your raaatfa (stay)."

Then, he quickly turns back to welcome the next customer, who have just arived.

°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°||°º¤ø,¸,ø¤º°`°

Although this is your first visit to Mars Cafe, it feels like home. There's even an alien
that almost look like a gooey version of your beloved wife. Definetly feels like home.
You enjoy the moment and look around. You see all sort of creatures amazing creatures...
humanoids and  non-humanoids; short ones, tall ones; a red squary bunch of aliens is
sitting on a table right next to you; you can see a bearded and horned version of Maryl Strip
sitting at the bar... so much diversity... they would sure be good references for a AGS game
when you're back on Earth... What a brilliant idea! You pull your plasma scap-book from your
shirt pocket and start drawing...

Max height and width: 250px;
Max colors: 30;

Max eyeballs: 2.000, 221;
Max orifices: 6.000,543;
Max horns: 250.000,218;

~ Harrr nfa kraaaa!
   (Of you go!)

PS1. sorry for the delay. My life is quite a mess right now.
PS2. before anyone asks, the rules about eyeballs, orifices and horns are just a joke.
PS3. Smurfs don't really exist.

Previously, on Photoshop Phriday:

Photoshopping isn't drawing a completely new image -- It's editing images to create a new image, such as editing one image or combining several images. The contest usually lasts for a fortnight. Also, you don't have to specifically use Photoshop -- Paint Shop Pro, MSPaint, or any other programs can be used. Please make sure your image doesn't exceed the width of the screen.

See this link:
http://www.somethingawful.com/photoshop/

And for other examples, see here:

-------------------------------------

FROM ADVENTURE GAMES TO LIFE

     The idea is quite simple: pick your favourite adventure game character - wich can be eighter from a commercial or independent game - and build a flesh and bone individual that would play the your adventure character of choice on a movie. Take spare parts found over the net or on your HD (Mwahahaha). Sew them together with Photoshop. And as Dr. Frankestein would say: "-It's alive!"

     You're allowed to stretch, pinch, spit, rip, dance over it; so, the output CAN - although it's not necessary - look like a living caricature.

     I guess It's not possible to find any good examples on the web, and I'm to busy to make one, so I'll leave all the work to your creative twisted little minds.

     OFF YOU GO!

This month's Animation CompetitionTM theme is...

TERROR FROM ABOVE...

Something coming from the sky is freaking the hell out of this guy.
It's your job - if you decide to honour me with an entry - to animate the encounter.
Is God spitting on him? Is it a flying Yak that just died from a heart attack falling on him? Is it Tina Turner?  ;D ;D
I do not know. Use your twisted little minds to illustrate the disclosure.
Use anything but the question mark.

I suspect that:
Spoiler
the code has something to do with the choices you get in the coffee machine

Can't crack it, though.

Nevermind. I did it.  ;)

Hints & Tips / Silent Knight II
Mon 17/10/2005 02:39:20
I've found a bug...
Spoiler
When switching ordinary dices for magical ones, there's a dialogue sequence that I think should appear only after I convinced the bartender guy to go inside the kitchen... I've changed the dices without convincing him!!!!

Nice game so far.  ;)

Ready for the next Sprite Jam? So launch your favourite graphics program and get your hands dirty (with pixels).

This edition's theme is:

Pirate ladies.
(har, har, har!)

The SeaPanties must set its sails once again and captain Carmen is recruiting! The only requirement: progesterone. That's right. You've got to be a lady. Sexy or bulky. Armed or not. Hairy or waxed. Swordsgirl or cooker. A boat full of pirate girls...

It's up to you, dear AGS sprite artist, to provide the captain with the required crew members.

Rules:
- Gotta be a female pirate.
- 200x200 pixels, maximum size.
- That's it. No more limitations.

After the week is through, the best pirate lady will grant victory to her creator.
Feel free to write a pirate style caption after posting the image.

Good luck!
-Stefano

PS. Would anyone help me re-write this text in a pirate-like way? Not really necessary, but...  ;)

Hints & Tips / June MAGS : The Bunker

It's a really nice, creative game!
Spoiler
Once you find the map, it gets nicer!  ;D

I'm stuck, though:
Spoiler
Got all 3 magic words (more of magic sentences). Returned Soren, the skull, to Dina's front door. But I cant actually use the words to open the evil wizard's door. What I'm I doing wrong?

Basic Rules:

 • From now on, a sprite is NOT supplied anymore, only a theme.*
 • Participants must create a sprite for their animation.
 • Each competition will last 11 days.
 • The starter of each competition will decide on the winner.
 • The winner, who will decide on the next competition's theme, must supply only a theme.*
*unless further instructions say otherwise.

This Competition's Specifics:

Dr. X is hiring insane cientists with a fertile mind, to create an army of deadly cyber-bugs to conquer the planet (bwahaha). On the first stage, you were one of the few chosen individuals who were crazy enough to fulfill Dr. X's high (and when I say high, I mean wacko) recruiting standards.
It's now up to you to design a impressive prototype and convince Dr. X you're the man (or woman) for the only job vacancy available as...

*lightning*
*wolves hawling*

...Dr. X's right arm...

 • Design an insect, with some sort of deadly (or not!  ;D) cyber implant.
Lame flash example:

Good luck and have fun.

Cheers,
Stefano

New view of same dwarf. I really like him!
I'm now considering making my first game, as soon as I finish some concept art I'm doing for someone else's game.
I'm afraid is going to be as crapy as my English, as I can't script.  ;D

Cheers,
Stefano

The tablet thing turned out to be an excelent investiment of my economies (Unfortunately, in Brazil, technology is still damn expensive). I can say every cent was well invested.
I can work twice as fast and the results are much smoother. See for yourselves (C&C are welcome, thow this is NOT game art).

Dwarf (not too happy about posing!!  ;D):

Critics' Lounge / Background to be bashed.
Wed 27/04/2005 03:59:47
This is my first background (not my first photoshop work) and I would really appreciate coments about it. After I finished (almost, at least) I noticed there's a "yougurt for kids advertising" look on it... the colors? The yellowish sun? Argh! It's much easier to see problems on other people's art.

Note: the greyscaled square is a unfinished portion of it. There'll be more trees, mountains and vegetation in there.

I have recently discovered this 3D program that seems introduce new concepts to 3D modeling...
The site: http://pixologic.com
Anyone has used it? I would like to hear about your impressions.

Cheers,
Stefano

I've recently played the 4th episode of the Ben Jordan's series and it really inspired me. So, in homage to this wonderfull game and his creator, I crafted the "inominable horror" speach zoom window (inexistent in the game, as the gost did't need to say anything. I did it for fun...):

1X

3X

I would like to hear what you think about it, please.
#18
Well, what do you think? :)

The first one is Toe Jam, from good old sega's Toe Jam & Earl.
The second one is a samurai (Duh!  ;D ).

Cheers,
Stefano
