Critics' Lounge / Got bored, made Guybrush
Mon 25/09/2006 14:19:02
While working on some sprites for my game Aetus:Vita, I decided to take a break. So I made Guybrush, in a style that is half Monkey Island 2 half Monkey 3, so I kept some pixellization and gave some detail. It's just the result of my break, tell what you think. ;D

Beginners' Technical Questions / Overlay
Sun 24/09/2006 14:41:52
I need to have a overlay in the screen until you press a key or left mouse button. I've managed to make a timed overlay, but I need to replace the wait command with a key press, right? Can you help me?

This is my script, with the wait command:

int over1;
over1 = CreateGraphicOverlay(0,0,45,1);
Wait(200);
RemoveOverlay(over1);

Thanks.

Hello people. I've been away for some time, had a lot of work to finish college and so. But now I'm back with my old project, "Aetus:Vita". In the past months I've evolved a bit on using Brice 5 and Anim8or, so I dumped my old work and started from scratch. As for the story just a few changes, but basically the same. In the end of the post some screenshots, still W.I.P, but I'm using them for test.

Game Title:

AETUS : VITA (it means "life age")

Story:

The year is 2212. Life on earth is becoming unbearable. Wars, pollution, pillaging... our dear planet is dying. Somewhere in Asia(Well, Siberia) cientists discovered four stone discs with engravings(in 1943). After careful studying of the hieroglyphs they find them to be portals that lead to wormholes, leading to strange planets and dimensions. Only by going to those places human civilization will find the answers and the cure for earth. You need to start a new Aetus,a new age, the Aetus:Vita.

You play as Jonathan Nex, a scientist who is sent to these new worlds, without knowing what to expect and with little support from earth.

The game will be first person, like the Myst series.

The game will be divided in five worlds:

- Ignis (fire world)
- Terra (earth world)
- Ventus (wind world)
- Aqua (water world)

And finally Crystallus, the light and crystal world.

STATUS REPORT:

IGNIS

- story 100%
- graphics 80%
- puzzles 10 %
- scripting 10%
- music/sound 0%
- videos: 0%

All the rest, except story, 0%.

And the new screenshots (February 2007)

Small Teaser in Youtube - don't expect nothing fancy, I was rendering stuff and decided to make it! ;)

Hi all. I've looked the foruns and found the solution for other AGS versions prior to 2.7x. When I load them in AGS 2.71 they work. If I try to paste the text - script -  to my game it crashes, multiple errors(in ags 2.71 too).

I need help doing this:

I have a puzzle that is missing 3 pieces that need to get into the right places before the next action occurs; if you put the pieces wrong, nothing happens. If you put them right you solve the puzzle. You'll do this by dragging the pieces with left mouse button. Can someone help me?
Thanks!

Critics' Lounge / Aetus:Vita
Wed 06/09/2006 16:41:07
Hello all. For a while I was out of ideas for creating a game. I picked up many influences, tried many plots, but nothing seemed to work for me. I then bought Myst III: Exyle(I had never played any Myst ou Riven series) and played for a while. The beautiful set seemed to inspire me. For the final touch I listened to the soundtrack of one of the most beautiful games ever, Outcast. And voilá! I created a plot for my game, called AETUS:VITA (it means "Life Age", read further to know what I'm talking about.) I need critics and some help.

THE STORY(without telling much ;D)

The year is 2212. Life on earth is becoming unbearable. Wars, pollution, pillaging... our dear planet is dying. Somewhere in Asia cientists discover four stone discs with engravings. After careful studying of the hieroglyphs they find them to be portals that lead to wormholes, leading to strange planets and dimensions. Only by going to those places human civilization will find the answers and the cure for earth. You need to start a new Aetus,a new age, the Aetus:Vita.

Now I have some things I would want you to help me with.

- Do you people prefer 3D render characters or characters based on real people(like photos)?
- What do you prefer: Earth, wind, water, light or darkness(don't ask questions just answer ;)?

Now I needed some more help on creating intelligent puzzles like in the Myst, Riven series. I would like you people to make some rough sketches and description for me to use in my game. Of course everyone who helps will be featured in the credits. For the first world, "Ignis", I already have the puzzles defined and don't need help there, but feel free to help for the other worlds! Remember that the game setting is based on different worlds, each one with it's culture: so make a puzzle that can be adapted by me to any of those worlds, don't make something refering to the "real world".

Here take a look at the first (low res) image of Aetus:Vita.

If the link doesn't work go to http://alimpo83.blogspot.com, it's the first image

AGS Games in Production / Ed Longarms
Tue 28/02/2006 22:22:13
Hi people, I'm back after a while (the only thing that I did and can be downloaded in these forums is my first AGS game, made last year "Pepe's Adventures") and much have learnt! Take a look at two screenies of my new game, called "ED LONGARMS" that will be divided, well at the beginning, by chapters.
The first one is "Getting back to life (and subtitled "Getting my boney arse back on track!"  ;D)

STORY:

Well the game is about Ed Longarms, a long-dead man who needs to find out why and by whom he's been summoned. Expect a twisted storyline with humour.

It's just some shots from a alpha version, the 0.0.1  ;D

Well, for now:

STORYLINE : 60% (as for the first chapter)
SCRIPTING : 60%
GRAPHICS: 20%
SOUND/MUSIC:60%

Hope you'll like it and wanted some reviews on my screenies, tell me what you think.

Adventure Related Talk & Chat / My website
Tue 28/02/2006 16:08:29
Hi all, it's been a while since I made something with AGS, but I'm back with a new project called "Ed Longarms"(I only made a downloadable game called "Pepe's Adventures" check the forums, but that was my first game and much have evolved since then!). You can check my website(not much to see tough) at http://www.freewebs.com/limpoarts/
Thanks! :D

Hello. First of all, I'm new to AGS. In the first three days I made a little game called "Pepe's Adventures", that is less more than 4 mb. Unfortunately, my low 250 MB/month bandwith at freewebtown.com wasn't enough, and 5 days later the downloads got over that. Now I'm making a MUCH more cool adventure game, featuring a 800x600 resolution, Mp3 music, possibly talkie version, but a game like these would be humongous. I have one room playable and was going to release it as a beta (4 mb with music, no talkie) so the AGS users or the adventure game players could post some feedback on the graphics, GUI's and so on(more on this below). One thing I noticed when I started browsing most of the games was the lack of graphic quality. Of course I'll exclude the Apprentice series, from Herculean Effort, with excellent graphic and animation, despite the 320x200 mode. I started making my game at the 800x600 resolution but it's getting too big. No problem to play here, but a problem to share with others. My first game "Pepe's Adventures" has VERY lousy graphics when compared with the one i'm doing now. It all happened when I downloaded a Monkey Island 3 demo, for nostalgia, and looked at the graphics. I tought to myself "great graphics!" and on the next moment "My game sucks in visuals". So I started doing some new backgrounds and anims. Not as good as MK3 but at a good level compared with my first game.Ã,  I got lost in the explanations. Well, I wanted to ask:

Which is the better free website provider( with a large monthly bandwith so that the adventure game fans can download my games!)? ;D

Is it possible to change the Save game window or the exit window, concerning the sprites? I know I can change the text on the main script, but what about the sprites, is it possible or not?

Want help in here! I customised all of my GUI but that seems to escape me, and it blurrs all of my work with all that gray :P

I'm starting the sequel to my first (little and with very very bugs, but still playable) game, called "Pepe's Adventures 2: The Evil Ones"

PLOT

After the first game, Kandelf takes our hero to the "far north", as he said before. He must find Zarion and defeat him, but has to pass his minions, and in the way, find new characters.

Features:

New characters like Zarion, Malazin the Evil Wizard, the guards or Melina, the angel
Many new locations, including world map like in the Monkey Island Series(tm)
New animations and sprites

I have a first screen on my site ]http://www.freewebtown.com/alimpo83] , where I show the improvement on the background design when compared with the first game.
I used some tutorials to improve my background making, found here in this site.
The new Pepe's Sprites are being made, so the one you see on the screen is just for testing.

Development status

CHARACTERS:
Zarion - 0%
Malazin - 80%
Guards - 100%
Melina - 0%
Pepe - 20%
Other - 0%

PLOT : 100%

LOCATIONS : 10% ( I will not put the locations names, as it would spoil the fun later)

MUSIC AND SOUND FX: 15%

No idea when it will come out, but as soon as possible, and this time, with interactions much more developed!Ã,  ;)Ã,

I'm a newbie on working with AGS, and I made this little game in 3 days(i downloaded AGS the same day!). It has a lot of bugs but it's still playable and hopefully will be fun.

Any questions, comments or suggestions welcomed. Questions on walkthroughs here too.

Pepe's Little Adventure

Lead Pepe on his quest and meet odd characters like Joe the Elephant, Jean the Coffee importer and Kandelf, the wizard.

Enjoy! ;D

P.S: I'm portuguese, you can post in portuguese. Or english or spanish. If BADLY needed, in french too.Ã,  ::)
