Wow, it's been too long since I was last here.  Since Da New Guys 2 last year, I've been looking to make a 3D adventure, though toolkit options were kind of limited.  So, I made one myself!

It's a plugin for Unity3D, and kind of a "Telltale tool", or at least similar to what I imagine it to be like.  There's a demo game you can play online for kicks.

Main website
Demo game
Video

Features:

  • Make a complete adventure game with no code
  • Point and click, direct and first-person controls
  • Clean, intuitive interface made for designers
  • Event system for cutscenes and interactions
  • Character animation and conversations
  • Timed sequences and arrow prompts
  • Inventory items and global variables
  • Controller support for all play styles
  • Full saving and loading system
  • Example project to learn from
  • Customisable in-game GUI
  • Extensive documentation
  • In-game options menu
  • Built-in pathfinding
  • Translation support

My past experience in AGS really helped with the design, and has a few features like auto-speech line numbering that AGSers will recognise.  Regrettably it's not free, since it was a full-time gig to write it, but I hope it's of use to people looking to make a 3D adventure.  Windows, Mac, Linux supported, and mobile support soon.

Thanks for reading!

This is a feature I've long-requested for AGS, but didn't get implemented, so here's a module for it!

Lip synching with Lucasarts-style speech module

AGS won't let you use both Lucasarts-style speech and Pamela-file lip-synching, so this module hacks speaking characters after picking up the Pamela files manually.  It's adapted from Calin Leafshade's original code, without which I wouldn't have had the faintest clue of what to do, so thanks Calin!

I've tried to comment the code and make it all understandable, but post a reply here and I'll see if I can help further.  It was a big help for my own game, Da New Guys: Day of the Jackass, and with the help of Smiley's lip synch manager (which auto-generates the pamela files), I got lip-synching into my game in about two days.

Hope someone finds it useful!

I've been pretty scarce on these boards for a while now, and it's high time I showed why.  I've spent the last six months putting together a short 3D movie featuring the wrestlers from my games.  It's a fun, quirky little movie and I hope you enjoy it!

High quality Large size but slower to download
Low quality Small size but quicker to download

From my site:

"The film follows Simon, Defender and Brain during a typical night at The Wrestle Zone as they do battle with a washed-up actor, an obsessed fanboy and his gang of internet nerds."

Why did I make this?  Two reasons: to try to bring the concept of "Da New Guys" to a wider audience, and also to see if I'm cut out to be a filmmaker!  It's my first proper 3D work (and my first proper film!) and it was pretty tough going!  Hopefully it was worth it, and I'd love to make another one if the response to this one is positive.

Lastly, I'd like to say a big "Thank you!" to The Scorposer, for producing it's great soundtrack!

P.S.: Oh, and apologies to all the forum's moderators (you'll see... ;))

Why does the music volume go down when voices play?  Is there a way to turn this effect off?

Thanks

Hi there!

I've experimenting with different methods for lip-synching in my current project, Day of the Jackass, and the Pamela app really is fantastic.  Problem is, AGS currently only supports .pam files for Sierra-style speech.

I understand why this is: character's mouths tend to be much smaller in non-Sierra-style games, so the effect would usually be lost.  However, my project is hi-res, and the lip-synching would be quite noticable.

I've uploaded a little test I made to show how the game would look with Pamela support.  I know it'd be a pain to implement this just for me, so I hope you like the result!

Many thanks!

Da New Guys: Day of the Jackass

[/a]

The sequel to the original wrestling comedy.

Story

Brain - the worst brawler in the history of the Wrestle Zone - has won the title belt! Not even his team-mates Simon and Defender can believe it. But when Brain gets kidnapped (along with the belt), it's up to them to get him back.

Street-fights, car chases, and obssessed fans all stand in the way of Brain's rescue. But as the reluctant heroes find themselves descending ever deeper into in the city's darkest corner, they learn that their problems are only just beginning...

Features

  • Play, once again, as all 3 members of the team
  • Explore eight locations around the city, with more than 70 screens
  • A full MP3 soundtrack by For The Winnings composer Chris Moorson
  • Unlockable artwork and achievements
  • Full, lip-synched voice acting

Screens

As I'm writing this, the box below tells me the last time I edited this page was in 2007.  So this took a while to get done!

I await cries of "sell out!": this is now a commercial release, and being published by Wadjet Eye Games.  Trust me though, being able to spend some serious time on this means it's a MUCH better game for it.  It's considerably longer, properly voiced, tested, polished, achievement-ed, and it's coming out the end of the month!  Also, it's pretty darn cheap.

For now, there's a new trailer and demo to try out.  Enjoy!

Two games on the front page? Yeehah!Ã,  ;D

Well, I can't help being excited - getting this thing to upload properly has been a nightmare.

Well, never mind that - the game's here!Ã,  If you haven't seen the post on the Production forum, let me bring you up to speed:

Da New Guys are the latest wrestling team to hit the Wrestle Zone.Ã,  The Brain, Simon and Defender are three Brits trying to make it big, and were forced into an unlikely alliance upon arriving in the 'States.Ã,  And they're about to face their biggest challenge yet - the repossession of their home!

So far, so sitcom.Ã,  But that's the idea - I've always thought it'd be funny to see what wrestlers have to put up with outside the limelight, and the result is (I hope) a funny, enjoyable take on what we all used to thing was real when we were kids...

How about some screens?

Have run-ins with the boss!

Experience stardom first-hand

Features?Ã,  Features?Ã,  Oh, right:
-2 different endings
-3 playable characters (duh!)
-30 rooms (excluding cutscenes - and the title screen, that's a room, dammit!)
-Full speech (optional, but recommended)
-It's, uh, longer than Bear Story!

Phew! I'm just glad to get this game out - it took a bear long time!Ã,  Ã, :P
A word about the music: I didn't do any of it.Ã,  Some's more obviously ripped than others, but it's all credited for at the end.Ã,  Also, this game uses the AGS Creditz plug-in, courtesy of AJA.

So, what are you waiting for?Ã,  Start rivalries, fight matches, work out, and pay the rent:

Set over four chapters spanning the course of 24 hours, help Simon, Defender, and The Brain overcome their biggest challenge yet - the reposession of their home!

In this quirky cartoon adventure, experinece the highs and lows of pro-wrestling: buff up in the gym, take on rivals in the ring, and work part time in dodgy fast-food chains while avoiding the landlady.

Features:
-3 playable characters
-30 playable rooms
-10 interactive NPCs
-Full voice acting
-Two different endings

Fight night!Ã,  Smiley Joe dares to take on the might of The Brain!

Defender finds part-time work more than a little tedious.

The Brain steps into the gym for the first time ever!

Oh no!Ã,  Don't look - it's the all-action explosive ending!

The new game by IceBox - coming soon.Ã,  ;)

OMG1!!!! First game out!!!LOL!! :)!

Heh, just kidding.

This is Bear Story, a kind of take on the old Dizzy adventures all those years ago.Ã,  (You DO remember Dizzy, don't you?!?)

Actually, this was a little birthday present I made for my lil' brother, but I've only just got round to uploading it.Ã,  It was kinda cool to see whether or not I could code this type of game in AGS.Ã,  Who says it's a point-and-click only engine?

Features... features... erm:
Ã,  Ã, -It's a dizzy-style game, in AGS!
Ã,  Ã, -8 playable rooms
Ã,  Ã, -5 characters
Ã,  Ã, -Laser targeting system

One of those was made up.Ã,  Now the story:

(Are you sitting down?)
Bear is the manager of Bear Airways, a succesfull airline company, and today is the day of the annual shareholder's conference.Ã,  But Bully Bear has locked Bear in the bedroom!Ã,  Bear needs to escape and get to the conference in time.

Come on, it was for my brother!
