So, I am working on a new little tool to better handle line numbering and script creation. This is the first beta release of it and I would love some help finding bugs. Suggestions and comments would also be great.

What it should do:
*Renumber lines in all scripts and dialogs - either renumbering from scratch or filling in only unnumbered lines.
(options in the dialog are assigned to "player" since you can be playing as different people at different times)

*Generate a script file (Voice Script.txt) that is broken up by dialog and room

*Include any "//VSnote: [text]" comments in the scripts, "//VSnote: break" will create a divider

Using it is very simple, just extract the .jar file to your source directory (the one with game.agf) and double click. (It requires java runtime which most people have) The interface is super basic, just a couple options to select, then click a button. It may still have some bugs, I can't really test it extensively, so please only use it on a copy of any projects you're working on.

Edit: Some people had trouble so here is a media fire link also, hope one of these work.

(Not sure if this is where to post this, but can't make a new post in the module thread)

I'm creating a little program to deal with numbering lines and exporting a script because I don't like how the engine does it. Output isn't very useful for creating voice scripts because there are no indications of the dialog/room it occurs in and dialog options aren't included in-sequence, but lumped together. Also, autonumber has no option to just fill in non-numbered lines so working scripts would be ruined if you ran it after initial script creation. Comment tags to include remarks in script would be useful also ( //VScript: look bush) as they help voice actors immensely even if they require extra work for coders.

Anyways, I had some questions when it comes to Dialogs. I haven't actually done work in AGS other than quickly looking over what other team members have done and what the demo contains. And we don't actually use dialogs, but I'm trying to account from them anyways. So here are the questions:

1. How is it determined who will "say" the options? For instance if you control different characters at different times, how is it indicated you are currently playing as Ego2 and not Ego? Or will that even work as far as dialogs go? (in other words is ego always the one to say the options?)

2. How does the actor reference work? I know that in the demo and tutorials you use the script name minus the "c" in front, but what if you don't name your characters with a c? (or is that required?) and does the game still function fine even if you name them in dialog with a c? (I know some of this could be tested, but I figure the knowledge is likely out there so this is quicker)

3. I know it is possible to run normal code with dialog scripts, so is it possible to use say, sayat, display commands and have it actually still work fine? Even if it would normally make something wonky to do so, would it be possible with workarounds and thus should probably be accounted for even if very unusual?

If the above mentioned functionality was put in officially, that would be great and useful to everyone. But in the meantime, help on working out dialog issues for a separate tool are appreciated.

What is a Photoshop ...Phriday?

Photoshopping isn't drawing a completely new image -- It's editing images to create a new image, such as editing one image or combining several images. The contest usually lasts for a fortnight. Also, you don't have to specifically use Photoshop -- Paint Shop Pro, MSPaint, or any other programs can be used. Please make sure your image doesn't exceed the width of the screen. This competition is also known as the Photoshop bi-weekly meaning two weeks long. hopefully boosting it back to full lenght will encourage more entries.

I am not in a real original mood, but it hasn't been done here for at least a while, so...

Take a movie poster from around three months ago to the middle of next year and change it.  Looking more for fake movies or spoofs, but anything is welcome.

Problems with the Fountain of Youth
Ã,  Ã,  Ã, After finally discovering the Fountain of Youth, those who drink of it find out that there may be a bit of a problem.Ã,  It seems that only parts of their bodies get younger!

I don't think an example is nessesary.Ã,  Stick a baby head on an old guy, or the opposite.Ã,  Of course you could get more creative.Ã,  Have fun!

The Silver Lining has got a listing on Gamespot now.  It was even on a section of the front page!  I just thought this was freaking cool, and would encourage you guys to go sign on, or sign up if you haven't (it's free and quick) and add the game to your wish list or tracked games which is a major part of how they rank games.

Critics' Lounge / C&C on revised sprite
Wed 14/09/2005 07:50:31
I posted an early version of this sprite before, so it might look familiar.  Either the other post is gone or I overlooked it... at anyrate...  Both B&W and Color versions will be used, so crits, comments, etc on both is appreciated.  Animating these is gonna be suck.....

Okay, I am trying to pin down how I want my backgrounds to look.Ã,  Below is a mock-up of the layout of a house bg.Ã,  Do you guys think that the overall layout and semi-isometric look contrasts too much with the character I included to see size?Ã,  I know it is not even a near finished background, so it may be hard to tell, but I was just looking at it and it seemed off.Ã,  If it looks wrong to everyone else I will start over, but if it looks like it might be alright after adding in the details I will continue until I have something that I can make a final decision on.

Critics' Lounge / Need Feedback on Puzzle type
Mon 15/08/2005 21:58:41
Okay, below is a test puzzle.Ã,  Basically, things like this will appear throughout my game (not just this type, but a bunch of them).Ã,  So I was just wanting to see what you guys thought about it.Ã,  BTW, the main guys job is to control colors, so thats why I would like to make sure I have a good basis for these type of puzzels.

Here are two things you will have gotten by the time you try this example puzzle:

And here is the example puzzle.Ã,  You have to place each color on the left into the blank boxes on the diagram so that it all works out. (BTW this would be like 1/3 to 1/2 through the game, with easier and harder before and after)

(Try it without cheating using a eye dropper if you try to solve please)

This is the main character of another game.Ã,  It is in black and white because that is how he appears some time, and requires the most attention to detail, colors can hide things.Ã,  I love the side view, but I am not very happy with the front view.Ã,  Any ideas or quick redo's are welcome, and other comments / suggestions are appreciated as well.

Okay, I have an idea for a game that I think will be very fun and unique and offer a lot of new puzzle possibilities... the catch is, your character would die A LOT.  Now dying wouldn't be a bad thing nessesarily, as there would not actually be a way to "lose" this game and have to reload, and I would try to keep the deaths light hearted with out a lot of gore, or even off screen or somewhat hidden so you wouldn't get to really see details.  It would be a comedic game, so the deaths are not ment to be gruesome or anything, but are a critical story element.  So.... my question is, if I went ahead with this, do you guys think there would be a lot of people that are agaisn't it even if the deaths are almost on the same level as Wile E. Coyote "deaths"? Or somewhere between that and the Itchy & Scratchy deaths?

Critics' Lounge / Scientist Sprite C&C
Mon 25/07/2005 01:51:57
Well, I have never done sprites, I am more of a nature and non-living focused guy.Ã,  Anyways tell me what you think.Ã,  I know the wrinkles look a bit funny, I am messing with that.Ã,  Mostly I just wanted to see if other people thought it was a bit bland also.
(edit: I just noticed the feet on the away facing char still has the forward feet :P oops)

What I want to do is have a gui button animate when I click it.  I know I can do:
loop
set button=image
wait(x)

The problem is that I want to be able to have multiple buttons animate at once, or at least be able to "que" the gui mouse clicks, so a person can click on multiple buttons and get the desired result instead of having to wait until each loop ends to click the next.

The only way I could come up with is if a character can be displayed over a gui, because I could probably figure out a way to just make it's idle animation the desired animation effect, move it into the room and over the button (I know I'd have to have a new char for each button to have multiple going) then just move the char back to a "holding room" until I need the animation again.

If someone can think up a better idea of how to do this (I am very new) or I am not clear in my explination, please feel free to also post alternate ideas or questions.  Or if there is some way to cause a wait without pausing all scripts that would obviously work too.

I am looking for a team to help me remake/add to the classic game "Loom".Ã,  I can do a lot of the tedious stuff, art, limited scripting (I am very new to ags) and more general stuff.Ã,  I would love to have someone that is experienced with scripting, and music (possibly voice too).Ã,  It would be cool if you've played the game before, but it is probably not required.Ã,  If there is a "development group" out there, like the ones working on kings quest and quest for glory, that is interested I am more than happy to join an existing team and would even help on other projects in return.

I know you are supposed to have the game started and post pics of it, but seeing as I will mainly be an artist (and I want to make sure this will happen before I do a ton of art), I will just put up a few pics you can judge my skills on.

Done for a "MUD" website Legends of Karinth:

Oh, and I would like to do this in 640 instead of 320.Ã,  I haven't seen any games in 640 yet, so that may not really be an option, may run to slow or something.Ã,  Anyways, please respond if you would like to join, or have me join a team, and list what you would like to contribute.Ã,  I am currently replaying the game, and working on things to add and possibly change.
