It may still be slightly "buggy" or appear unpolished in some places, but this is as good as I believe I can get it. I have found myself struck down by large burdens in my schoolwork, which is not getting any easier as I approach senior high school.

Bob Goes Home Deluxe

Game's Page

Just like the original, but better!
You are Bob.
Your main mission in life is to vandalise a school for some reason. Only problem is... you'll have to play to find out!

I hope you enjoy this as it is my first, best, and most likely last AGS game.

Well, some of you may have noticed my disappearance lately. I have had a lot of things to do with school, and a lot of other commitments. I wish for you all to know that AGS has been a large part of my life, and it will continue to be a part later on in my life. But with saying this, I must admit that I will not be participating in the forums and using AGS as often as I have done in the past. Please do not delete my account on this forum, as I will continue to use it, but not very often. I will try to finish my outstanding AGS game, Bob Goes Home Deluxe, but I will not be able to start any new projects. I may be able to help out with some other people's projects, but not as a full time member of a team.

Some of you in this community I have grown to become quite acquainted with, although many of you may not have realised.
LJUBI: You have been a great friend of mine and hopefully we will continue to be good friends.
Esper: Sorry that I couldn't help out with any sequels for you, but you are a great guy who has magnificent talent.
Mr Colossal: I have grown to respect you greatly, and you seem to be a very “in-control” kind of person.
ProgZmax: You are a brilliant artist and programmer and you deserve any recognition you get.
CJ: You are a massively awesome guy, with skills in programming of which I have never before seen outside of a large company.
Anyone I may have missed: There are so many people in this community of which have massive amounts of talent, but there are too many to list.

To everyone out there, keep up the good work, and never give up on whatever you want to achieve.

To those of you who are interested in my knee injury, I didn't end up having an operation on it, but I have been told to exercise it, and I do every day. It is gradually getting better, and I am getting back on the squash courts soon.

So I would just like to say thank you to everyone in here, and I wish you all the best.

I have a hotspot that is also a walkbehind and when you interact with the hotspot an object is supposed to become visible on top of the hotspot. I have just used a object.Visible = true code to make the object visible, but the object is behind the walkbehind. How can I make the object be drawn on top of the walkbehind?

Bob Goes Home Deluxe Production Thread

I made an AGS game named Bob Goes Home last year and thought it was an okay idea but the graphics and sound and pretty much everything were missing. So I decided I would team up with sportyjay again to draw some even better graphics and get this Deluxe version going. Not long after I had released Bob Goes Home a member of this forum named Krysis kindly offered to "help out" with Bob Goes Home Deluxe. This "helping out" involved spending a lot of time and drawing all of the graphics by himself, leaving a lighter load for me and an even lighter load for sportyjay. So I would like to thank Krysis for everything that he has put into this game.

Okay, enough chit-chat. Here is the game.

You are Bob.

Production Diary: (my time)

02/01/2006
I have conducted a sickness, not too bad, hopefully will get over it soon. Scripting has been coming along nicely, doing a bit each day. Haven't gotten around to animating any more, becuase I don't have a lot of time to work solidly.
_______________

09/01/2006
After some help in the Beginner's Tech forum I have done some more scripting. I have recovered after being fairly sick and have been steadily scripting some each day. All the members of the team have now got signature pictures which I compiled for us in MSPaint. I am looking at getting stuck into animating in the second half of this month, and getting as much scripting as I can done until then.

Aaarrggghhh! My computer has been playing up lately. I feared I had lost everything because it didn't recognise the hard drive, so I fixed it, and now just today I have a "System file missing or corrupt". :'( :'( Luckily I backed everything up after the hard drive problem and before the system file problem. Progress has been halted for the time being until I can manage to overcome this stupid piece of crap I sometimes call a computer. I am saving up to buy a new computer but I will see how far I get before I can't handle it anymore. ::) Oh well, back to trying to fix everything up and trying to not have a nervous breakdown.
_______________

16/01/2006
I formatted up my hard drive and re-installed Windows and everthing so I can return to working on the game. I haven't done any more scripting since last time, and I have been looking around at computers that aren't too expensive but will still serve my purpose. I don't think I will get a lot done for a while now, though, because my sister is home from overseas with my 4 month old niece that I haven't seen before. I haven't seen my sister for about 2 years, so there is a lot of catching up to be done.
_______________

24/01/2006
I have been doing a bit more scripting, and have had a few ideas on sound and music. Too bad I really can't for the life of me make any sound effects or music, and don't know where to find any. Just finished getting my computer back on track with all of my programs.
_______________

15/02/2006
Lately I have had a few problems getting the internet to work on my computer, so have not had a lot of time to work on Bob Goes Home. At one stage I even thought of abandoning the game, but realised how much work Krysis, sportyjay and I have put into it. And I'm sure that some people were actually eagerly awaiting this game like those who have posted below. I went back and did a fair bit of scripting yesterday, and I hope to have all of the scripting done by the end of the week. I would really appreciate it if someone with some musical talent could please PM me if they have some spare time and could make some music for me. Thanks a lot to whoever can help me.
_______________

23/02/2006
I have been working hard on Bob Goes Home Deluxe, and as a result have finished off and fixed some errors in the scripting and done almost all of the animations in the time of about 1 week. Now all I need is sound effects and music.
_______________

05/03/2006
I have been talking to some friends at school and they seem to think that music and sound isn't all that important. So I have decided to not worry about them yet, and instead I am starting to PM some people about beta testing!
_______________

Enjoy! Now it's time for feedback!

Yahtzee has been working his hands off at AGS and has produced a demo of his next game!
http://www.fullyramblomatic.com
It is on the home page.

What do you think of it?
IMO it is great idea and any game of Yahtzee's is worth a try.

There is a game out called Quake 3 Arena and it has been out for a fair while now. If anyone has this game we could set up, using this thread, a schedule of games for us AGSers to play in and have a bit of fun away from the adventure games. Don't get me wrong, I love adventure games, but something different is nice too. So I want your ideas and a list of people with Q3 willing and able to participate.
Just an idea still, but it could be something.
Thanks.

I was writing some code for a cutscene in my game when this error occured.

This is my code:
Code: ags
StartCutscene(eSkipESCOnly);
player.FaceCharacter(cMum,eBlock);
character[MUM].Say("Dum dee dee da da. Doo doo doo.");
player.Walk(175, 155,eNoBlock);
player.Say("Finally I've got a free afternoon to go vandalise the school with my friends.");
character[MUM].Say("I love cooking, I love my cooking.");
player.Walk(70, 120, eBlock);
character[MUM].FaceCharacter(player, eBlock);
character[MUM].Say("And just WHAT do you think you're doing?");
player.Say("Uh-oh.");
player.FaceCharacter(cMum, eBlock);
player.Say("Uhh, I'm just going to .. ah.. go out with my friends. Yeah, that one.");
character[MUM].Say("Okay. But be back before sundown.");
character[MUM].Say("And DO NOT get into any mischief.");
character[MUM].Say("Yes, mum.");
character[MUM].FaceLocation(105, 115,eBlock);
player.Walk(25,180,eBlock);
player.Say("Yeah, right!);
player.ChangeRoom(1, 1, 1);
EndCutscene();

What is causing the problem and how do I fix it?
Thanks.

General Discussion / In the dumps
Tue 13/12/2005 08:19:00
Some people may find this interesting in some sadistic, mad, or even humourous way. I have decided to post this thread because I feel that I need to confide in some people about what is happening to me.
About 2 months ago, I hurt my knee playing squash. I thought it was just some sort of extremely painful sprain, as they usually are. After about 1 month, the pain wasn't getting any better, so I went to see the doctor. He sent me to a specialist, who sent me to getan M.R.I. scan on my knee to see what damage had been caused. I got the scan results back and went to see the specialist about it. He said that there was signs of wear and tear on my cartilage in my knee, but other than that it was alright. He said that it was not bad enough to be operated on, and in order to keep it as good as possible, I should stop playing squash, the only sporty I really love. He suggested I take up swimming instead, as it is less stressful on the knee. I was very sad, because not only am I crap at swimming, but I am only a teenager, and retiring from my favourite sport is not something I want to do until I'm old and possibly grey-haired and wrinkled.
I'm feeling slightly depressed about that, but to top it off, I caught a spyware on my PC, and had to format it. I somehow managed to salvage my AGS stuff and My Documents but that is all.

Now I am finished telling my tale, and whatever you do, whether it be weep or laugh, I would like to have any support given.

Thank-you. :'(

General Discussion / Convert movie files

I am currently attempting to burn a DVD but the movie files I have are WMV. Is there a converter or any way to get around this?
BTW I use Nero to burn.

Advanced Technical Forum / AGS Error Message
Thu 24/11/2005 21:05:14
I was creating my game in AGS Editor and this message popped up. At that time I had been entering properties in the interaction thingy and I was about to change the image of an object. It opened up the sprite manager like normal but what wasn't normal was the error message that popped up. It said something like "You have deleted a sprite and sprite 53 can not be found." I clicked the ok button only to recieve the same message again. The thing was that I had not deleted any sprites, and nor was I using a sprite 53. Then a short time later (still in the sprite manager) this message popped up:

"We're sorry, the AGS editor has encountered a serious error and must shut down. You will have lost any changes made since you last saved your game.

(Exception 0x00000000 at EIP=0x00000000, AGSEDIT v2.70.601, SIP=26)

(...)"

Here is the full screenshot.
I would appriciate it very much if someone could help me.

Can someone please help me with some coding for a GUI where it shows "Walk to" if the cursor is walk, and "Look at" if the cursor is look?
I currently have @OVERHOTSPOT@ in the GUI but want the extra part at the front.

General Discussion / n00b adoption idea
Sun 13/11/2005 22:25:38
I have been on a forum where there is a "nAA - n00b Adoption Agency". A "n00b" posts in the thread and states their Likes, Dislikes, Favourite Gaming Platform, and Other Useless Info. The user who wants to be the parent figure then PMs the n00b asking if they want to be adopted by them and such. I think it is a good idea and it would help n00bs get to know their way around the forum because they could trust the person who has adopted them to reply to any questions.
Just an idea.

Critics' Lounge / Please help with game idea
Mon 24/10/2005 22:50:09
I have made a game and it is called
Bob Goes Home

I was wondering if I should polish it up by putting in new backgrounds and characters and put it on AGS game site. Is the idea worth it?
Thanks.

For some unknown reason when my character clicks on a hotspot which is then meant to make an object visible, the object shows but some of the background still shows over it. How can I prevent this from happening?
#17
When I change a walk-to point of a hotspot, the AGS Editor changes it to a seemingly random co-ordinate in the room. ??? I really don't have a clue in the slightest of what the hell it is trying to pull. It just changes all my walk-to points so that when I test the game, it would, for example: I interact with a door at the bottom of the room. The walk-to point was next to the door. My character wlks to the top of the room.
If anyone knows what is going on could they please help me.

I keep trying to import an icon using the method as stated by the manual but it always comes up with a message saying that the icon is too high resolution. My game is on 16-bit colour and 640x400 resolution. How can I get the icon to work?
#19
??? I can't seem to change the colour of my character's speech. Can someone please help me? :'(
