One of the things we used to do is have various art-related activities and I thought it might be fun to do one again.  This would be based around a front page news article of The Realiser paper.  There should be enough backgrounds & character sprites to come up with some interesting articles.

Below is a template with the fonts and font size used for the article headline & text and an example I cooked up.

Template (with fonts used):
[imgzoom]https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/798/41001131882_b225551844_o.png[/imgzoom]

An Example:

There's no set limit to the size of picture to text (much like real papers, these change day to day), or how they're placed.

RoN turns 16 today!  Which means it's celebration time and that the series can go for it's drivers license in some countries. :D

Reality-on-the-Norm / RoN's 15th Anniversary
Mon 01/02/2016 20:09:58
Well, here we are, just 16 days from RoN's 15th anniversary.  If anyone needs a place to post links or files of whatever they've been working on to celebrate the anniversary, they can post it here or can simply send me an IM.

I've updated & uploaded new bundles (Feb 1, 2016) of the character sprites & .cha files to the resources page on the RoN site.

Also, there's a special RoN MAGS this month (in the AGS Competitions & Activities subforum), if you're interested.

Next year RoN will be celebrating it's 15th anniversary.  I'm mentioning this now so if anyone wants to do something special to celebrate this landmark (or RoN in general) has enough time before Feb 2016.

If anyone is unsure of what they could do, contributions could be any of the following:
- Artwork (digital or physical)
- Fiction or non fiction piece
- Music: for game use, or a live recording of the Ron theme (for example)
- A game
- Character/object/etc sprites
- Game backgrounds
- A birthday card
- Photos of a cake celebrating the 15th anniversary
- a audio and/or video piece
- Or something not listed above that marks this anniversary or celebrates RoN in general

Critics' Lounge / RoN- kitten krysis style
Sun 21/12/2014 20:40:02
I've made an attempt at spriting up a kitten in Krysis' style (or as close to it as possible) and I'm not sure if I've accomplished that with any success.  Any suggestions on how and where things can be improved would be most appreciated.

In the worksheet below I've provided examples of the original kitten sprite, Mary the fox in Krysis' style (which is the style that's being emulated), and Drake just as a height comparison reference.

After hearing rumors of supernatural activity Jhon Steel, a paranormal investigator, has come to Reality to investigate.

This is a reconstruction of the original game "Paranormal Investigatino" created by Peter Tomov. The purpose of this reconstruction was to update the game to make it playable on more recent versions of Windows and to improve as many visual aspects of the game as possible.  Extra writing was also done to better explain the plot of the game.

The game can be found on this PAGE.
or just download directly from this LINK.

A classic RoN game by Dave Gilbert has been given a makeover and update to run on modern machines.

Game synopsis:
You play the role of Death, the Grim Reaper, who has come to Reality to reclaim the soul of Michael Gower. Who's that? Michael Gower is better known as the zombie who is currently running for mayor of Reality.

Reality-on-the-Norm / RoN art activity
Thu 23/01/2014 16:55:36
It's been ages since we have any sort of fun graphical activity and I thought it'd be nice to do another one.

The subject is Brandford Scotts from Kunafits game "Strange Days".  For more info on the character & the game he appears in, please see his Character Page and the Strange Days page.

Anyone can participate and can submit a few entries if they wish.

Format: Any.  Can be a sprite, 3d model, drawn, etc.
Entry Period: Jan 23 - Feb 9

* As an optional, there could be a voting period between Feb 10 - 16 if we wanted to this to turn into a comp, upon which the community would pick the one they like most.  State/discuss if anyone would like to turn this into a comp or not.

Have fun.

Reality-on-the-Norm / Ron-ification
Wed 10/07/2013 04:06:05
This thread is for posting forum avatars, fictional characters from other media (books, movies, games, etc), or anything else (such as animals, vehicles, inventory items, props, etc) in the current RoN style.  If you have something, even if it's been posted elsewhere, feel free to post it here.

I'll begin with my own forum avatar:

Reality-on-the-Norm / RoN's birthday & future
Mon 18/02/2013 05:51:09
It's been 12 years since the 1st RoN game was released, so Happy Birthday RoN.

I'm looking ahead to the rest of the year and would like to know are there any themes or activities people would like to see/do.  For example, we used to hold art activities on the old forum - would people be interested in seeing that restarted?  The floor is open for suggestions/discussion.

One of the RoN-projects I have on the go deals with Reality High so I came up with this basic floor-plan.  Then I thought that it might be an idea to turn it into a small activity like we used to have on the old forum and have some fun with fleshing the school out.

So, apart from the the exterior walls, the stairwells, front entrance & school administration (which are set in stone) - everything else is and can be subject to change.
- Corridors can be added/subtracted, the library or auditorium can be moved/enlarged/decreased.
- Figure out where to put the cafeteria.
- Pick a colour for a subject and start filling in blank areas.
- The list of subjects can be added or if something thinks of something that isn't there or a subject can be removed if someone feels it's not something that would be taught.

This is a map, and it's not to scale

This thread is to notify everyone whenever the site gets updated.

The most recent update includes: an updated Krysis-style backgrounds pack (1237 k) and an updated version of the Space station theme pack with Krysis-style backgrounds  (394 k).

Shamelessly borrowing from the "Release Something" concept, now's the opportunity for people to show off RoN-related material that they've been working on such as: backgrounds, music, screenshots from an upcoming game, updated character sprites (such as Mr. Namyah), an excerpt from a fiction/non-fiction piece, or even a demo.

Closing date will be August 6th.

To get things rolling, here's a background from part of a new entertainment centre that I'm constructing.

Reality-on-the-Norm / Resource depot
Sun 27/02/2011 21:20:00
The purpose of this thread is to serve as a place for people to display a resource (be it background, character sprite, music, etc) that will periodically be collected and added to one of the resource packs on the RoN site.

To start things off:

Reality-on-the-Norm / RoN's 10th Anniversary

Today marks the 10th anniversary of Reality-on-the-Norm.  The site may be temporarily down but the series isn't.

Happy Birthday RoN.

The host of a gathering is found dead and everyone is a suspect.  Your task is to create someone who is at this gathering and who may be the murderer.  This can be a guest or a member of the host's staff.

No restrictions on colour or size.

No restrictions on the time-period.  The character can, for example, be from the 1920-30s, 1100s, or even far flung future.

I recently discovered (within the last few weeks) the following error message pop-up whenever I attempted to load the AGS editor.

This problem is recent as I was able to load the AGS editor without problem back in April/early May.

I've already run my machine (I'm using win xp) through a total virus check (came out clean), as well as reinstalling the version I had, & downloading a new version of 3.1.2 sp1 as well as 3.2 Final 5.  None of this has worked as I still get the error message above whenever I try to load the editor.
