Hi, not posted anything on here in a while. Hope everyone is well :)

The matter at hand:

I am a 3D artist (currently at university), and majority of my work will be placed on an online portfolio.

Here are my current test websites:

A red funky style:
http://www.wix.com/dave_smith/portfolio

Same red funky style, just more compact:
http://www.wix.com/dave_smith/portfolio2

A more sleek and stylish chrome look:
http://www.wix.com/dave_smith/portfolio3

I would like crit on absolutely everything please. Anything catches your eye that you think should be changed, or kept in. Please be brutally honest as this is important for my future career.

As it's an online portfolio the style needs to be formal yet fun.

As you can see some things are place holders for the website, the pictures and the videos may/will be changed (I am not after critique on them. just the website it's self.)

The cartoon picture of me is up for crit though.

Also I am aware the contact form doesn't work. I just unlinked my email address so I didn't get spammed with test emails :P . I assure you it works. But let me know if anything else doesn't work.

Thanks in advance.

Dave.

As some of you may know, I am new to pixel art. I have been trying to up my pixel art skills:

Click here for a look at my character attempt.

x2:

Here is my first real attempt at a pixel art room, I have not looked up any tutorials yet, and I am adding the background in its early stage so I dont go too wrong (with composition and perspective).

I will be adding an assortment of random lab equipment, any addition of random equipment in paint overs is welcome.

UPDATE:

x2:

Not sure about the 'gradient' effect... Really not liking this Room at the minute...

This is not for a game it is only to improve my skills (or lack of lol).

It goes without saying that any paint overs are gladly welcome.

Thanks...

New Update:

I'm still working towards improving my skills:

x2:

Without the character for paint overs:

Sorry for the Bump.. Just want to try and stir some interest... I have searched online for a pixel bg tutorial but to no avail. Any help?

Thanks...  ;D

Edit:  Don't double post, especially not on the same day.  Have some patience.  -ProgZ

Hello, this is my first attempt at a low resolution pixel character:

  x4:

I have always liked the less is more approach, and decided that I would give it a go.

As you can see he has been hurt, and is a bit worse for wear.

I am having trouble with his face, and the shading of him.

I think the arm on the right (his left) looks out of place.

Also is there a better way to do low pixel glasses?

The colours haven't really been thought of yet, they are mostly just place holders. But any suggestions on the colours would be great.

Thanks...

Edit -

I have edited the face and some of the shading.

  x4:

I think his head might be too big...

Also i have just thought. I am shading him with the light being on his left (And slightly behind him), but how do you shade a game character, making it generic enough so it looks right regardless of the room, yet dynamic enough that it looks good?

Update:

I have edited it some more while waiting for replies, I will leave the others up, so you can see my working out. (lol)

  x4:

Here is a random animation (needs one more frame in the middle but I'm finding it hard to create it) :

I got a bit nostalgic a while ago, and bought all the disc world games off ebay...

To my shock and horror though, it wouldn't run on Vista...

I have been on a few faq's and they have all directed my to downloading a Dos emulator.

I didn't want to do this, as I don't like downloading programmes onto my pc unless Im 100% sure it's safe. (Uni work)

I reluctantly downloaded DosBox (or something like that) and spent about 2 frustrating hours trying to figure it out.

This was over a year ago, and I have only just thought to come here and ask for help ( STUPID lol ;D )...

I was wondering if Ags could emulate it somehow.. (Since all the Ags games I download work fine).

If not do you know of an easy way to get it working?

Thanks in advance....

General Discussion / Watchmen Film
Fri 06/03/2009 10:59:05
Hello all....

I watched the Watchmen film last night. And I thought it was really good. Probably the best adaptation they could have done.  ;D

I have read the Graphic Novel and was impressed how much they kept it as close to this as possible (without the film being 7 hours long)

I just wanted to know what people thought of the film. Those who have read the comic, what did you think? and those who have never read it at all.

Massive Spoiler Below, comic and film:
Spoiler
Also what did you think about the changed ending? I thought that in order to do the actual ending with the genetically altered squid would have taken a lot more time to explain in the film. I think it was a needed change. When I heard that they had changed the ending, I was expecting them to save everyone before Veidt killed millions of people, I thought it might have been too controversial for film. But they did it.

So what did you think?

Critics' Lounge / Concept for office...
Sat 06/12/2008 07:30:03
Hello, I have been using Photoshop (for the first time really) to draw some concept art for a university project.

I am thinking of making it a night scene now, and was hoping for some tips.

Here is the daytime scene I have created:

And here is the night scene that I have created:

EDIT:

Here is a 3rd I have quickly thrown together, using different techniques:

Im not that bothered about perspective (unless there is a really bad example).

Any other crit is welcome as always,
so are any paint overs...

This is the main character:

Hi
     I have just started university at Staffordshire Uni (UK) and we have been told that we have to aquire a copy of 3D Studio Max 7 and a Wacom Graphic Tablet.  :-\

    Now being a student  I am looking for the cheap option, and would like to find the cheapest possible products to buy (as long as they are still useable). I will gladly take second hand products. So if any of you have a copy of 3DS Max 7 or a Wacom (At least A5) Graphics Tablet that you would like to sell (or if you see any online can you let me know)

   Thankyou all in advance

Hi I was just wondering how(and where) I would write the code to make the usermode cursor (now called TP) make the character teleport to mouse position;

Code: ags
function on_mouse_click(==eModeTP) {
			character[EGO].Animate(8, 0, eOnce, eBlock,eForwards);
Ã,  Ã,  Ã,  character[EGO].ChangeRoom(1, mouse.x, mouse.y+25);
Ã,  Ã,  Ã,  character[EGO].Animate(8, 0, eOnce, eBlock, eBackwards);
