Welcome to this blitz, the theme of which is

Fantastic shipyard(TM)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shipyard

Draw a shipyard that is extraordinary in some way. For example:

   - steampunk-style that builds flying ships or airships [steampunk's great for industrial buildings!]
   - sci-fi planetary or space shipyard that builds space ships
   - underwater shipyard that builds submarines
   - extraordinary landscape design (think of Cape Suzette from Disney's TaleSpin)
   - anything else, use your imagination!

References: (cool worlds with docks, ships etc.)
   - Star Trek The Motion Picture - space dry dock
   - Disney's TaleSpin universe
   - Alpha Shade universe
   - Mysterious Cities of Gold
   - Ulysses 31

Images of shipyards:
   - google images
   - "Dry" dock from Star Trek the Motion Picture

Images of spaceships:
   - Spaceship Jupiter from Lost in Space
   - Pride of the skies II from Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors

It's supposed to be a background so don't forget to put in enough space for the character to walk (and not extremely far in the distance). You don't have to portray the whole place, just part of it is o.k. It can be a building or just outside structure or a combination, as you like - but I would like to see some ship(s) or part of.

Your background should be usable in AGS, but you can make scrolling backgrounds! For example 480x200, 640x200 targeted for 320x200 resolution are great. Since a shipyard is a big structure, you could benefit from the extra screen space.

Voting will start on the 9th of October in the same categories as the previous blitz.

Hope you like it,
Now go and start painting!

Critics' Lounge / Experimental Logo Rendering
Wed 08/03/2006 15:47:02
Hi folks!

As we all know one can't start making games without having a proper house logo (cough.) I'm aiming at a simple basic shape (as logos should be legible in B&W), then enhance it with colour.

Today I've finally devised a shape that I like, so I tried to colour it. It still looks a bit empty, perhaps I'll put some stuff around it, maybe animated, or maybe stuff specific to each game.

Commens, ideas, paintovers?

Hi!

I realized that one day I will be faced with the problem of adding music to my games. The problem is that I am not a musician. I know I could ask someone to help me, but I'd very much like to try it myself, at least for some small games.

My current skills:
- play the guitar a bit (self-taught)
- read simple musical score
- operate several composition programs (FastTracker, Cakewalk,...)
- musical hearing not very good (can't tune guitar by ear very well)
(I also own a Commodore MIDI keyboard)

How can I learn some basics of composing? Can anyone point me to some tutorials / online / offline resources, books, etc? I have no idea where to start... something about the theory of harmony?

Critics' Lounge / Broom Doodle sprite

Oh no, not me again!

Just a really fast doodle + tried some heavier shading. Just wanted to show you, because I think it's kinda cute.

Original size: 99x78
Colours: ??(few)

Oh and I think I'm gonna make her my avatar for the time being.

EDIT: If you think you know which witch it is then you don't because it's just a witch. (Not THAT which, which is certainly one of my favourite witches, however).  ;D

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the most atmospheric diner in Old New YorkÃ,  ;)

2x

Size: 320x200, square pixels
Colors: 53
Time: ~10-15 hours netto

Hi, I started this for the Postapocalyptic Diner BG blitz, but didn't have time to finish it back then.

As you can hopefully see, it's a hover-diner parked at the damaged Statue of Liberty, close to what used to be the proud Manhattan.

It could still use some work (diner interior, missing walking area), but it's taking too much time, and the contest is long over.

Throw your crits at me!!

Hi!

Hope I'm not breaking any rules by re-posting my entry from the previous BG blitz here. Took me 4 days. But I'm not very happy about it and thought you might give me some hints as to what or how could I make better.

I think the gradients on the sea and sky look strange, but I don't know what to do about it. Tried to put waves all over the sea, but it looked just too noisy.

Oh and the beach is terrible, yes. I absolutely couldn't get that right.

My artistic skills are literally zero so I greatly appreciate all advice and/or paintovers.

Hints & Tips / Apprentice Deluxe bonus puzzle
Wed 23/11/2005 10:16:28
Hi!

I think I know what the goal of the bonus puzzle is, but still have no idea on how to solve it. Can you give me a hint? Pretty please with wipped cream and sugar on top?
