Topics - Mad

#1
The Nursery

(I won't post any examples/references,  because...)

I want to keep the topic fairly open. So, the nursery in question could be designated for anyone or anything,  any time period or maybe just themed, sinister or frilly...

Therefore,  there are no special rules or limitations.  Draw your BG in any style and resolution you're comfortable with.

Hope, some of you will have fun with this!
#2
Astrobiology

As the title suggests, I want you to play astrobiologists and imagine possible pathways evolution has taken on other worlds with quite different environments.

You can choose any planet you like, from your favourite book or movie, your own imagination, or an existing exoplanet.

Should you follow the latter route, you may find some inspiration here or in this video.

To make things a little more interesting,  I'd like your creations to be multicellular.  But it can of course be a plant, animal, fungus... or any hybrid you can come up with.
Here's another video with some nice examples.

Lastly,  I'd like you to name and describe your chosen planet and why your alien life form fits the bill.

Happy spriting...

...yeah, I know what you're thinking. Again with Monkey Island? Furries, you gotta be...
But hear me out:
Choosing a game franchise so well known and (maybe) over-/abused, is beneficial since in this case we want the sprites to be easily recognisable,  but seen in a new light. Also, we're not really talking about furries. Let's rather call them anthropomorphic animals!

So, what if our favourite wannabe pirate and posse were anthropomorphic animals?

If you are willing, your task would be to give a Monkey Island character animal form. You can choose any character from all of the series and draw your sprite in any resolution and style you're comfortable with.
One thing to keep in mind,  is to choose an animal that best fits the characters personality.

Here's some inspiration that instantly came to mind.

Hope, this takes your fancy and happy spriting...

DOOMSDAY DEVICES

Be a mad scientist and help this guy, some 30 years on, build a doomsday device for him to achieve his life long goal: the small matter of world domination!

Let your warped imaginations come up with the ultimate machine of mayhem,  be it ginormous or pocket sized. It may be stationary or mobile (e.g. on wheels or flying). The machine could be robotic or a mecha (or some such malarkey).

Build it and they will yield - muaha haha Muahaha HAR HARR.....

The aim is to team up a humanoid person and a pet-like companion or familiar.

The pair could be somehow missmatched (physically or otherwise),
or the pet could simply be absolutely outrageous, e.g. a tapir.
Nontheless, they should form a believable crimefighting, asskicking, or [insert attribute] duo.

There are no size or colour restrictions.
A background story would be very much appreciated, but is in no way necessary.

Hope you'll have fun...

Strange Case of (insert favorite game character) and (insert favorite gamecharacter-)Hyde

Basically the idea is to take a game character (any will do, it does not have to be adventure related, or even commercial) and give them Dr. Jekylls potion to drink. Try to envision an alternate personality for that game character, but not necessarily a sinister one, it can just as easily be another suppressed trait coming to the fore!

- There are no limitations other than that the sprites need to be AGS compatible.

- The chosen character should still be in some way recognisable.

- If you like, you can redraw the original character in your chosen style, but that is in no way obligatory!

Hope you'll have fun!

You may create a background depicting any kind of medical facility: a surgery, dentists, any practice or hospital from any cultural background or time period, even scifi or fantasy, and it could be sinister, abandoned, or comical, ...

I guess you get the picture!

There are no size or colour restrictions, but the BG should be compatible with the current AGS version.

Voting will start on April 8th, unless an extension is absolutely required.

Have fun!

Hybrids

You surely remember this guy, or even this terrible attempt at a so-called animated classic!

Although very different in viewing pleasure, both films feature some kind of hybrid between living being and tool/appliance.

I want you to go to your lab and/or magical cave and construct such a hybrid:
It can be any living being, animal or human, crossed with any tool or kitchen appliance.

There are no restrictions size, colour, or resulotion wise... go wild!

VIKINGS

For this sprite jam I want you to draw some axe-wielding, mead-quaffing (go easy on the ravaging!) vikings.

They may be male, female, cartoony or realistic - hell, do some space vikings, but please make the sprites usable in AGS.

Happy spriting...

Who wouldn't have loved to play a really good 2D point n click adventure of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy!? Well I would have! So, it is your task to breathe pixely life into the characters of the whole series.

And since there is only a limited amount of characters in that SiFi series, I give you an extra outer spacy bonus: Gimme Star Wars DOTT style! In C&C I've seen some of you doing a great job on the Maniac Mansion sprites.

So I announce: HHGTTG vs Star Wars

Keep in the size of 150x150 pixels.
You may use up to 32 colours.

In short:

2D Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy characters (in the style you prefer, just stay within the restrictions)
or
Star Wars (DOTT style)

You may do both but clarify which is your actual entry.

Some of you may remember these guys from a sprite jam in a galaxy far far away...

Well, how about spriting them a space craft, glider or general flying thing?

Following rules must be obeyed:
- the two aliens must be sitting, standing in the air craft or be otherwise attached to it
- the aliens may be changed to suite your own style, but they should still be recognisable
- there are no size or colour restrictions, but keep it sensible so that the sprite could be used in a game

sprite and obey

This weeks topic is...

...drumroll...

What if fruit and vegtables could walk, talk and... well... interact!?

Hmm, a bit lame I hear you say?
Well right you are and that's why the creativity is up to you!

So go and get planting...

EDIT: just a little inspirational piece:

 The rules:

* A sprite is supplied, with a theme.
* Participants must use the given sprite for their animation.
* Each competition will last 11 days.
* The starter of each competition will decide on the winner.
* The winner will start a new competition as well as supplying a sprite.

I didn't have the time to come up with a new sprite, so here's one of my old jam entries:

Let her do some magic!
But there's one thing you have to keep in mind: She is really bad at it!

She can perform the magic on herself, on something completely different, or on her trustworthy companion!

Go and do some magic...

THE AGS COLORING BALL

So, what's the deal?

An image is supplied, and entrants color. A general theme is given, but it is optional. The winner hosts the next AGS Coloring Ball.

This week's theme: The Thingummie's new clothes.
Give this poor chap something funky to wear

Sorry for the lame sprite, but I hope you'll have fun anyways!

So here goes the new one:

Since we're all doing so good over at the Sprite Jam let's give all those great critters a place to ooze, globber, vapour or just glide about in:

The Mars Cafe
[/b][/size]

I would like to see a nice spacy (in all meanings of the term) alien cafe or diner where denizen of all species find a comfy place to seat their bostriebees and glogboosts and get their kind of food and drink (maybe even from vending machines).

There are no restrictions in size or color.

The voting categories:

Best Idea
Best Functionality
Best Design
Best Technique

Let the blitzing commence:

...and remember to buy your very own Mars Cafe badge: !!!
