“THE EXCHANGE STUDENT EPISODE 2: POINT CLUB” HAS BEEN RELEASED

Point Club, the second episode of the new interactive sitcom The Exchange Student, is now available for PCs at www.theexchangestudent.com. A Macintosh version will follow soon.

Mischief. Mayhem. Gel!

Pan Metron Ariston is pleased to announce that the second episode of The Exchange Student interactive sitcom series, named Point Club, has now been released for PCs. A Macintosh version will follow in the next few days as well.

The Exchange Student is a new episodic comedy game starring Emilio Carboni, a 22 y.o. Italian student who has never had a girlfriend in his entire life. In Episode 1 of The Exchange Student, the Italian Casanova was too tired of being neglected by the Italian girls and he decided to go on an exchange studying program to Sweden. His parents were not happy with his choice but Emilio was determined that at the age of 22 he was ready to take his first big step towards adventure and love!

In “Episode 2: Point Club”, Emilio Carboni, the most prestigious aspiring philanderer of modern times will join the Point Club, a group of men trying to outdo each other on a race for love and passion. Emilio will have to face grim competition with the likes of Pedro, Miguel and Mathias also constantly attempting to charm beautiful Swedish girls. Is Emilio going to have any luck on this dog-eat-dog quest?

The second episode features three times longer gameplay time than episode 1, more challenges and problems to solve, 26 characters (27 if you consider an inflatable doll to be a real person), 18 backgrounds and many new music tracks. Ex-Lucasarts artist Bill Eaken once again adapted Swedish scenery to the game's wonky graphic style using flamboyant colours and cartoony shapes.

The trial version of Episode 2: Point Club is available for download at the official website (www.theexchangestudent.com) and the full version can be unlocked within the game for the price of 8 Euros (equivalent to $11). Episode 1: First Day in Sweden is also available for download at the official website and the full version or this one costs now 6 Euros (equivalent to $8) as the initial price of 10 Euros was reduced with the release of Version 1.2 .

The Exchange Student is a series that should appeal to those who enjoy TV cartoon shows like Johnny Bravo, games like Leisure Suit Larry and Curse of Monkey Island and TV sitcoms like Friends, That 70s Show and Married with Children.

The game blends classic adventure gameplay into the casual game format, making the pace of progress faster and simpler so that the gamer can practically be entertained even if he/she only has a little time to devote into gaming. Featuring a simple point and click interface The Exchange Student requires a minimal learning curve making the game appropriate for both hardcore and casual gamers. At the same time however, the developers have seen to it so that the level of interactivity remains high throughout the game and that The Exchange Student is not just a click-through experience. The Episode 1 sales statistics suggest that Pan Metron Ariston is on the right track as over 40% of the customers so far are female gamers.

Episode 3: Pointless is scheduled for release in Q1 2008.

We are looking for a flash programmer to join our team for the second episode of The Exchange Student.

Payment: 1000 Euros
Estimated Development Time: 1 month
Requirements: We are going to use the same engine from episode 1 so you won't have to create a new engine for the game. However you will have to improve a couple of small things, like ability for scrolling and ability to use items with each other in the inventory. You should have good knowledge of Flash 8. We use a freeware program that takes care of lip-synching, you will have to use this program for the purposes of the game (unless you would like to suggest another freeware lip-synching program).
Work needed: The script of the second episode (excel sheet describing the actions that the player can make in the game and what outcome they have) is approximately 1200 lines long. The game contains voice-overs and subtitles and it is mouse driven. You will also need to use the copy-protection system we used for episode 1 on the second episode as well.
Not necessary but it would help if: You have worked on other point and click games before and if you have used Zinc before.

Those interested please contact me: dimitris *at* theexchangestudent *dot* com . If you have examples of your work online feel free to provide some links to them in your email.

We have some great news for the Italian casanova Emilio. His adventures are going to be one of the talking points during the BBC Radio programme On Screen tomorrow, Friday at 13:00 GMT. Presenter Nicola Christie will be discussing with Dimitris Manos about the development of The Exchange Student and the future of the project. Those of you who do not get BBC Radio in your area can listen to the programme online here. The programme On Screen is a show featuring interviews, news and gossip from the TV, film and gaming industries and interviews with well known directors and actors such as Oliver Stone and Meryl Streep have been conducted recently during the show.

On other TES-related topics, we are currently working hard on the Mac version of the game, and it should be released this coming week if all goes well. Unfortunately the Pocket PC version will have to be postponed for the time being. For more information on The Exchange Student check out the official website at www.theexchangestudent.com .

We have just released a trailer for the first episode of The Exchange Student.

You can download the trailer HERE.

Most of the dialogues featured in the trailer are not in the game (in order to avoid spoilers). The Exchange Student, featuring backgrounds from Bill Eaken (Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, Leisure Suit Larry 3, The Dig, Curse of Monkey Island) and animations by Dave Rigley (24 and a half webcomic), is an interactive sitcom. It is a point and click adventure game that will be sold in the form of episodes. The story follows Emilio Carboni, a 22 y.o. Italian student who has never had a girlfriend in his entire life. His friend Vicenzo just came back from an exchange program in Sweden. Vicenzo was really satisfied with the program since he met a lot of very attractive ladies during his stay in Sweden. Emilio decides to follow his friend's path. He travels to Sweden to spend a semester there, studying in a city of Sweden called Västerås. Fate however is not that kind with him.

Here is some additional reading for The Exchange Student:

English: Preview at Just Adventure, Preview at Bytten, Preview at Flash Valley
French: Preview at Factor News
German: Preview at Adventure Europe Germany
Portuguese: Preview at PT Gamers
Greek: Preview at Adventure Europe Greece, Preview at Adventure Advocate

The trailer is free to share and distribute of course. The first episode of The Exchange Student is going to be released this Friday on the 18th of August for PCs, and in September for Macs and Pocket PCs. We would be glad to hear your feedback based on the trailer and the previews you've seen so far.

Hello everyone,

We are a small team working on an episodic interactive sitcom with cartoon graphics and we need someone who can code the game in flash. This is a paid position but due to the fact that we are brand new, we have a very tight budget and we can only offer 700 Euros for the coding of the first episode, with a 100 Euro bonus if you can code the first episode of the game within 1 and a half month. Hopefully the game will do well in sales and then we can offer more money for future episodes.

The game is called The Exchange Student. The story of The Exchange Student is about Emilio Carboni, a 22 y.o. Soon though he will realize that getting a girlfriend in Sweden is as hard as getting a girlfriend anywhere else!

We have on the team already:

Will Eaken and Bill Tiller- They have worked for classic adventure games like Indiana Jones and The Fate of Atlantis, The Dig and Curse of the Monkey Island. This is one of the backgrounds they have created for the game so far:

Dave Rigley: He is the creator of the webcomic 24 1/2 Water Street .He will be creating characters and doing the animation for The Exchange Student.

Those interested please contact me at either at theinventory@yahoo.com or d.manos@adventure-eu.com . I am also available on MSN (dimidimidimi@hotmail.com).

Hello,

We would like to offer free hosting for independent developers of adventure games over @ Adventure Europe, however there are some requirements:

1) Your game must have high quality graphics. By that we do not mean that your game must look like commercial adventures do nowadays, but it can't look like someone made it in paint. For example some titles that would qualify for free hosting are: Legend of the Lost Lagoon, Drugbust,Ã,  Shadowplay or the ones that are already in our Free Adventures section.
2) Your game must be at least of middle length, we won't provide hosting for games that can be finished in 5 minutes.
3) Your game cannot use graphics ripped from other games, the graphics should be original work.
4) Your games should not feature text with too many spelling and grammar mistakes.

There is no catch, you won't have to enter our link anywhere in your game. Those interested contact d.manos@adventure-eu.com

Hello,

I would just like to announce that Adventure Europe was present at this year's Games Convention in Germany where many new adventure titles were exhibited. We will be releasing many GC-related articles, videos, video-interviews, and other downloads these coming days.

Today we feature the first trailers of a very exciting new espionage thriller called Secret Files: Tunguska. The game will probably appeal to those who like the X-files series and games like TLJ, Syberia and The Moment of Silence. You can download the trailers @ Adventure Europe.

Also for those of you who couldn't download our video interviews with Wael Amr (Frogwares) and Sebastien Pensivy, I would like to say that we have corrected the problem now and you can download the videos and their subtitles in English with no problems.

Stay tuned @ Adventure Europe this week as almost daily we will be updating our site with material from new adventure releases that we saw in the Games Convention.

BILL TILLER CREATES BACKGROUNDS FOR 'THE EXCHANGE STUDENT'

Magixoft would like to announce that Bill Tiller, known for his excellent work on legendary titles such as The Curse of the Monkey Island and The Dig, will be creating backgrounds for the upcoming comedy adventure for mobile phones, The Exchange Student. The story of the game is written by Dimitris Manos, the editor of the monthly PDF magazine The Inventory and the European website for adventure games, Adventure Europe.

The story of The Exchange Student is about Emilio, a 22 y.o. Italian student who has never had a girlfriend in his entire life. His friend Vicenzo just came back from an exchange program in Sweden. Vicenzo was really satisfied with the program since he met a lot of very attractive ladies. Emilio decides to follow his friend's path. He travels to Sweden to spend a semester there, studying in a city of Sweden called Västerås. Emilio will be constantly hitting on girls without any luck. During the exchange program he will also become friends with two Spanish guys Pedro and Miguel and a German guy called Mathias. The Spanish guys make up a 'points' game. In this game whenever one of them kisses or has sex with a girl, he gets a point. In the end of the exchange program they will all count the points to declare the lover of the year. The theme of the game is very much inspired by Al Lowe's Leisure Suit Larry series.

Magixoft is looking for an artist to create characters and animation for the game. Those interested should contact either Dimitris Manos (d.manos@adventure-eu.com) or Magixoft (quest@magixoft.com)
