Hey guys,

I don't normally do these type of "shameless plug" posts, but I'm helping out a good mate of mine.
I've been helping him with his YouTube channel over the last few months (filming, editing, design, etc) And he just released his room tour video. He has an insane collection, (actually the biggest). I'll pop a link in here if anyone is keen on checking it out along with some of his other videos.

Both us will greatly appreciate it :D

Thanks

Critics' Lounge / Character pixel draft
Thu 31/03/2016 21:25:32
Hey guys,

Been pretty slack in terms of working on projects. So been trying to get back into it. Just looking to get some views on this rough draft of a character I am working on. I haven't gone into crazy detail with shading and detail with the characters clothing as I'm not 100% set on the design/colours (Its meant to be just a plain tshirt and trackie pants anyway - "just got outta bed attire")

But yeah, as I said been "outta the game" for a while. Decided to get back into things and just wanted to get some thoughts/possible improvements on the first pass.

Heya,

I was just wondering if it's at all possible to have a Clickable Hotspot that can be clicked while you are in a dialog tree?

For example;

The player will have they dialog options on display but if they click on a Hotspot it will run its own sequence of actions. (Player could ask about that certain item)

Thank you,

This is a project that I am working on during my spare time. A short game created in Adventure Game Studio. I am locking myself in my house during the Easter Holidays (seeing I have no work/can't be bothered with family commitments during this time of year) and hopefully can get something released when that break is over. Hell, if I don't get it finished I'll try to have an actual trailer for this release.

I would post this up in the upcoming game section, but seeing as I haven't started on the art for it yet it doesn't meet the requirements for this post. It's Adventure related and there is most likely some rule that I have broken and for that I'm sorry, anyway. Enjoy, it's nothing that special. Wait, no..

Here it is

Spoiler
Sorry for the excessive use of the BRAWHHHH effect, all the 'cool' trailers are doing it these days

EDIT EDIT: Ok added another one with no lines on the top 3/4 - plus added face as well as the IBM "sticker" on the side

Heya guys,

I've been fooling around with Brisby's KeyboardMovement Module and having some fun with it. Being able to have the character moving into a crouching position and moving in that position. But I'm wanting to do a roll function in this game I'm working on. I have the space button set up and read to go, but I was just wondering if there is a form of code I can use where every time I hit this button the character will roll lets say 40 pixels right (for now)
this is the code I've gotten so far

      else if (newdirection == eKeyboardMovement_Action1) {
        cCharacter.ChangeView (3);
        cCharacter.StopMoving ();
        cCharacter.SetWalkSpeed(8, 8);
        cCharacter.Move(+40, 0);
        cCharacter.StopMoving();
        cCharacter.SetWalkSpeed(4, 4);

The main issue I already know is the cCharacter.Move and alot of the codes you have to have a set x,y. Surely there is a way to do and is most likely reeeeeally simple. Just wondering if anyone could point me in the right correction. Hopefully this makes sense

Cheers.

Hey, just need some help with my sound effects in the game. I wanted to have a simple sound effect of someone typing on a keyboard, and I have used the Interactions menu in my room and used "Game - Play Sound Effect" and put the correct number of the sound file (wav file is named SOUND0.wav as well) I have also tried Rebuilding VOX/Music and speech sounds as well and when i test the game, the sound doesnt play and comes with (In room 3): Sound Sample load failure: Cannot load sound 0. I also have put the sound files in the Sounds folder as well. I am using AGS v2.72 as well. can someone tell me what I am (if anything) wrong? please help!

Critics' Lounge / Rough Idea for my game?
Sun 27/04/2008 19:41:50
Hey guys,

Thought I would run this idea past you guys and see what you thought. I am planning to make a short/demo game for my folio to get into a Videogame Graphics course next year. I was having trouble thinking of something basic.. haha then I was talking to my mother about how I was having "writers block" and see was going on about this story I wrote when I was in primary school then it hit. Its very loosely based on it, but yeah made changes to the concept which I think was for the better! ANYWAY!

It goes a little something like this.

Ok the main character (lets say.. John for now).. So John is a video games journalist, abit of a hits the piss/drugs type of character, (think Hunter S Thompson but not as extreme) The game starts of in his small apartment, hungover. He wakes up in his bed and remembers that he has to finish a review on a game thats due that night, thing is he hasnt played the game enough to review/too hungover to remember anything about it. A huge electrical storm is heading the worst this city has ever witnessed. But he has to get it done or else its back to washing dishes. So he knucles down and starts playing the game.. the storm hits.. I dont know how this will happen, but I get something along the lines of lighting hiting the house causing an electical serge through the system opening a portal that sucks him in.  He wakes up not in his apartment but later he finds out that he is in the game. If anyone has read my other post asking for C+C on a sprite, you might have a very good idea on what game that is going to be.
And i was thinking if the game gets a good response I could make sort of a series,... It would be kind of like Quantum Leap but you dont control a main character in the games, you are John. I have some ideas as well for story development further in the series but i dont want to express them cause it will ruin the game :D..

Anyway is it worth going on with, any ideas on how i could make the story better?

cheers

hey..
this might seem like a pretty simple question. just trying to get something to work! using this as an example, you know in the indy games how indy interacts with an item or does something and turns to "you" and says something.. how do you go about doing that in AGS? sorry it does seem simple.. but hey! I've started work on my first game,.. already got afew rooms down, just putting them together now! := :=

anyway thanks, and sorry for the basic question
