I have an idea sitting around about a western action/adventure game, but before I got in over my head (as I tend to do) I decided to make a small game to get reacquainted with the AGS engine.  So I started working on the main character and hit a wall; I don't like the stance, I'm generally disappointed by the lack of detail in the character as a whole, and I'm drawing a blank as to what to colors I should fill him with.

Something I'd like to point out, I know that the thumbs are placed incorrectly and the hands are probably way too large, but I wanted to give the feeling that the arms themselves would be more counterproductive than anything in achieving whatever objective was set before the main character, which is why he has such a large mouth.  Though I'd love to read comments on how to better portray this.

General Discussion / Saddam Hussein
Sat 30/12/2006 03:16:53
No more than ten minutes ago, Arab reports state that Saddam Hussein has been executed.  Certianly there is something to be discussed here, how will this effect the stability in the middle-east?

Also 38th president Gerald Ford died and no one seemed to make note of it.

Critics' Lounge / Character C&C

I've been trying to modify my drawings into something a little more sprite friendly, as I usually use really thick black lines.

2x:

Surely you can help me make him look more "hip" than this!

How can I colour him better and get rid of the terrible black outlines?  I know his stance is a little effete, but with the way I draw hands, it's really hard to place them anywhere else and not get them lost in his pants.

Any other critique would also be greatly appreciated.

Got back into the sprite swing, and wanted to try something a bit different...

Now I need a less objective mind to tear it apart.

For reasons beyond average comprehenion(my own included), I've decided to bestow this week's Sprite Jam with this subject:

For this one, I'd like to take the President of your choice..and make him the super hero you wish he could have been..

So it's pretty simple this week:
Topic: Presidential Superhero
Size limit: [Any real number]x120
Colour Limit: 43 colours total.

General Discussion / Windows NT and Dos games
Sat 09/10/2004 03:38:22
Ok, I have gone back into the swing of playing my old sierra games, but whenever I try to play a DOS game, it lags, badly.  It didn't do this on Window ME, so I am pretty sure it is because I am running 2000.  Does anyone have a fix for this (other than going back to 2000)?  I would really hate to have 10 years of game collecting to be wasted because I cannot wait 18 hours to get to King Edward.

On another, completely different, subject, I have just recently purchased a 1998 Epiphone Les Paul Studio, and it is really light, which is a great change of pace from my Peavey T-60.  But I was wondering...are all Studio Epiphone LPs this light?

Thanks in advance.

Critics' Lounge / Caveman-hooker?

Ok, I have finnaly came up with a design for a woman character that worked, to a certian degree, for me. I think it looks great for a not too serious game..but I need to make the character look more....suductive, but still hideous.

Of course I am talking about the picture on the right, but about the one on the left, I wanted to know if the drawing styles formed smoothly together or not.

Thanks in advance.

All c&c welcome.

Beginners' Technical Questions / Script Timing
Mon 26/04/2004 05:42:05
Ok, I am almost completely done drawing the pictures for the cinematics of my game..but in a script, how do I make of list of things I want done one at a time?

See I have this as a script:
AnimateCharacter(POD,8,2,0);
 MoveCharacter(POD,204, 177);
 MoveCharacter(POD,9,4);

but it tries to do it all at once, so the animation gets cut off then the pod moves in a generally diagonal direction..

How can I script that I want that done one at a time? Or do I have to keep making new scripts for everything that needs to be done...

Thanks In Advance,
Earlwood

Does pixel perfect detection work while a character is animating? Say the character had an animation where he flung out a sword and if the player touched him, he would die, would PP detection apply to an animating character?

General Discussion / Guitar Chart
Mon 22/03/2004 03:36:53
Ok, I started playing my guitar agian, and I have been playing blind for a long time and I'm tired of not knowing how to play.

I would like to know if anyone knows where I can find (perferably for free  :P) a chord chart with the little numbers to indicate which finger to use for the chords.

Thanks

Ok, I recently had to replace AGS because of a virus: (I'm using 255 by the way):

Ok I copied the files in a folder I created in the AGS directory, I load my game, then save it. If I try to setup my game in agsedit.exe it says:'ERROR: Unable to run engine to run setup'
If I try to run Winsetup in the compiled in the folder it says: 'Unable to launch 'Roy.exe'.Make sure that file is in the same directory as this Setup Program..which it is...

Then if I try to run the game from the agsedit.exe
It seems to load for a bit then it says 'game was run with no errors'
And if I do it from the compiled folder it says that it is not a valid Win32 application.

Can some one shine some light on this problem?

[edit]

Just tried 26 sp 1 and it work fine for a little while, but then when I tried to test my game agian I got the Error about the game engine not shutting down correctly. Then when I tried to run my game outside the engine I got the Win32 Application error..

I hope I get around to finishing my game in the next 34 years.  :-\

Ok, I have one room where there is a character that is fairly large, so he I set the starting X Y pos on him so that the most of it was off screen. But when I try to make him walk to a hotspot, it does nothing.

Can someone give me better way to do this, or just a way to fix this?

Going to watch the Cosby Show,

General Discussion / Re-quiz karma
Mon 08/12/2003 23:06:55
Ok, Today we were given a re-quiz on a vocabulary worksheet we did, I aced it, I was the only one who passed, I just put something in the spaces and turned it in, where it was immediatly discarded.

My re-quiz:

Notice the secret message clevery inscripted into the answer blanks.

Then a few minutes later the teacher announced this: Cody, you cheated, he then laughed at him and handed it back.
  Since Cody sits next to me,I followed Cody to his locker after the bell, 'borrowed' his IPC book and discoverd this:

I'm using this very simple function:

AnimateObjectEx(0,0,0,0,0,1);

but I get this error
AnimateObject: Object has not been assigned a view, assign one?  :-[

Sadly, My amazing abilities stretch as far as playing kazoo, but then fall short at drawing, but this time I believe I got a style that will work!

This is just a room with a spaceship and a planet. ( I can't say anymore or it will ruin the whole game  ;) )

Older 16 colour attemp:

Newer 20 colour attemp:

What do you think?

[btw] Does anyone mind playing in a windowed mode? I think it would be best for my new style.
