The theme for this tune contest is robots.

You can do anything you like, but when you compose your song, give a short description of how it was influenced by robots.
Might I suggest tracks that are about robots or tracks that are composed BY robots or both.

Good luck and have fun!

Hello future tune contest entrants.

Happy Halloween!!!

It's that time of the year and I'm in the mood for goosebumps! So, give me some goosebumps. Make my hair stand up. Send a shiver down my spine.
Whoever can achieve this will win by. Otherwise, it'll be the one that came the closest.

Maybe it'll be a little spooky/eerie or maybe something more ethereal. Something with a kooky key change might do the trick. The task is yours, it's entirely up to you.

Critics' Lounge / run animation and sprites
Sun 26/04/2009 15:00:02
Hi,
can I get some c+c on these. They'll probably be used for a platforming game but I might use them for AGS.

I'm having a lot of problems with coloring for both sprites. So help on that would be particularly useful.

Since no one was declared a winner in the last round of the tune contest, I and PixelPerfect have mutually decided to draw the competition and start a new one. PixelPerfect seemed fine to let me start the new comp so if he's still fine with it, I 'll get things going.

This competition:

Ok I have no idea how to explain the idea that I have for this competition so I'll explain it best I can and if anyone doesn't know what I mean then they can ask. I have some examples the bottom to illustrate my idea.

Firstly and essentially, I want you to do a cover of an existing song. Anything of your choosing!

But more importantly, this is how I want you to create it.

I want you to make the song relaxing.
I want it to be electronic.
I want it to sound retro.
I want it to sound upbeat.

Ok, not clear? Here's an example.
This band is called the moog cookbook. They are awesome. They released two albums in the 90s of covers.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQYNcZmbOEc

It is a cover of Soundgarden's 'Black Hole Sun'.

That's basically what I want you to do.
You can do whatever you want really, but you will get extra credit if you're track is this:

-Makes me happy
-Makes me relaxed
-You take a more hardcore sounding song and making it something palatable. Eg. Make a metallica song sound like a tangerine dream song.

Yeah this is pretty convoluted, but hopefully you get my point. Questions?

EDIT
I just remembered a couple of things.

1. I've been wanting to do this comp for a while and I just remembered that I made a track a while ago as an example of what I wanted to hear.

2.Don't tell us the track that you are doing a cover of. It will be fun to guess.

EDIT (part 2)

The deadline is the 1st of March

Critics' Lounge / c+c character face

This a face. The reference is ME!

I'm still very new to pixelling. I know some of the problems with it already but I'm stuck. If anyone can c+c it and help me out with colors and shading it'd be much appreciated, thanks.

animated for fun

Critics' Lounge / C + C my song

Hey I made a track recently.
It's obviously unfinished (abrupt ending).
Inspired by Duke Nukem's return. Hopefully someone can give me suggestions to improve it.
I'm extremely amateur and I use Fruity Loops (boo hiss).

thanks in advance (don't make me regret the gratitude ;))

General Discussion / a short film I made
Mon 22/10/2007 03:12:00
Hey guys. Me and a friend of mine made this short film a year ago. I decided to put it on youtube.
It was a really small project but it'd be great if you could let me know what you think.
The music was used without permission so I was thinking of reediting it in a few weeks and putting a new score on it. If there are any musicians interested in helping with that PM me.

Hey guys. I didn't actually come first in the last contest, I came second, but the winner seems to be away so I've been requested to put up the latest competition.

Alright....

This competition:
It's 1979 and I've just finished directing a cheap and bloody slasher film. I want to improve the quality of the picture by using the latest in synth technology and create an atmospheric and suspenseful score.

Confused? Go and watch or listen to some scores from horror films from around 1979. Try and capture the feel of the time. Drums are acceptable and encouraged.

Hope to see some cool tracks. Good luck everyone!!!

PS My computers broken so I can't work on any trophies, if anyone wants to make some up and send them to me I'd appreciate it.

Ok I know this isn't regarding AGS but I couldn't figure out where else to post it and I couldn't find another thread explaining this.
How do I post an image that has a transparent background and actually HAVE it have a transparent background instead of a white one?

Sci-Fi/Western!

Your aim for this tune contest is to combine a science fiction style soundtrack with a Western style soundtrack in which ever way you want. There's many different styles of Sci-Fi scores and Western scores (Morricone being the most revered) and it's up to you in which way you combine the two into one piece.

Good luck!

Update:

I made some trophies.

1st Place prize (Gold)

2nd Place prize (Silver)

3rd Place prize (Bronze)

If you haven't read my walk cycle post, do so now. This thread is very much in the same vein.
Once again, I'm not asking for tutorials specifically. I'm asking how some of the more experienced AG makers create their backgrounds.
There are so many specific little things that I want to know about creating backgrounds and I can't bring myself to try and make one until I know what the best method is.

Do you draw a sketch first on paper?
Do you use the line tool? (If so and in Photoshop how do you turn off anti alias?)

If any of you could post up some pictures of their BGs and explain how the made them we would all (especially in the C&C room) appreciate it.

Critics' Lounge / Walk Cycles
Wed 01/11/2006 04:19:13
Ok I wasn't sure where to post this thread but seeing as though this one seems to have a tutorials thread and similar ones here it is.
I've seen alot of post from ags artists (beginners and not) about walk cycles. I myself would like to know how it's done.
I'm sure there are many ways to do it and I'm sure alot of different members use different methods. Is it possible for some more experienced members to post how they do their walk cycles. Not detailed tutorials (although welcome), just an explanation and maybe some images.
I'd love to know specifically the amount of frames you need to make for a walk cycle and the way you import frames into AGS.
I know there are a couple tutorials on them (not many though) but I'm more looking for experienced artists to share their techniques. Could be quite helpful to alot of us.
Thanks

Critics' Lounge / First time sprite
Wed 20/09/2006 10:48:57
Hey guys. New to these boards and new to sprite making and adventure game making in general. Here's my first attempt at a sprite. Tell me how to improve it if you can. I'd also love to know some technical about making the sprite, like what size it should be.
I tried to do a walk cycle with this character by hand drawing each frame and pixelizing it. It turned out to be alot of work and I just got confused about sizes and stuff, I'm using paint shop pro (new to that also) any hints or tips would be appreciated on doing a better walk cycle. Thanks guys.
