As some of you may have already heard, the Fountain of Youth project was terminated recently. Sad but true ... I left the project over a year ago but I was part of it for years (when it was still known as "Indiana Jones and the Fountain of Youth").
Because it seems a shame to have all of my work gather digital dust on my harddisk, I've decided to share all the graphics (and some lore documents) I've made. Perhaps someone can put them to good use or it might just be a fun browse. I've removed a number of files:

- all sprites made by other artists
- all background art made by other artists
- all music made by other artists
- all graphics with the "Indiana Jones" logo (no wish to anger the Disney legal department :D )

All the rest is my own work and I release it under a CC Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International license.

Download the archive from Google Drive HERE.

Background Blitz: Animated Background

For this Background Blitz I would like you to make an animated background. Animation can be full screen (as in a scrolling/looping background) or it can be animated elements in a static background.

Additional rules
Entries should be designed as playable backgrounds within an (imagined) AGS game, so they should have: a walkable area, at least one exit, and some clear hotspots.
Any resolution permitted.
Image should be an animated GIF (so there's an implied 256 color maximum).
Animation should run for a minimum of 3 frames.
Any theme or setting is permitted.

Dates
The contest part of the Blitz will run for two weeks, with submissions due on Tuesday, April 1st (no joke :D )

EDIT: the deadline has been extended to Sunday, April 6th, 24:00 in whatever your time zone happens to be

Additional Info
There's online websites that will help you turn a number of images into animated gifs, if your graphic software does not support this: www.gifmaker.me

Awards
The following awards are up for grabs:

Most importantly: HAVE FUN!

For a (non AGS) game I'm making I need some help from the community (that's you!). This game is based upon a children's song called 'Cowboy Billie Boem' in Dutch. It's one of those silly songs you sing around a campfire wherein a bounty hunting cowboy finds himself without a horse so he needs to switch to another animal to continue the chase. Any animal can be inserted in the lyrics and it can be repeated ad nauseam.
Now I KNOW there's an English/American version of the song (because I stumbled upon it a while back) but I can't for the life of me find it again! Does anybody know what this song is called in English?

Here's a Dutch version of the song:

For the next Background Blitz I want you to do something a little different, namely:

The rules and regulations for this blitz are as follows:

  • Resolution must be 320 x 240
  • You can use any number of colors
  • It must clearly be the title screen to an imaginary game
  • User interface elements like buttons etc. are optional
  • The name of your make-believe game must be generated by the Video Game Name Generator. You are allowed to 're-roll' your random name until you find one that inspires you

MAJOR brownie points if you also make an in-game mockup screen to go with your title screen!

And most importantly: have fun with it!

Awards:

General Discussion / Coding ... together!
Thu 11/04/2013 12:49:57
This looks kind of interesting - a way to code & chat together:
http://techcrunch.com/2013/04/10/hiring-developers-codassium-mashes-up-a-collaborative-code-editor-with-real-time-video-chat/

The usefulness to AGS is limited of course, given how integrated the AGS editor is with all its' AGS-specific functionality, but I thought it was a link worth sharing anyway...

So, here's a new Coloring Ball challenge:

On the move

Use the shape below to show some form of locomotion. Steam trains, frogs hopping, flying airship, running Arnold Schwarzenegger - whatever you can come up with, as long as it's 'going from A to B', it's fine!
But that's not all for this challenge: your entry MUST be animated. So yes; that means you'll have to make an animated GIF (or find some other clever way of showing animation).

Here's the shape:

[imgzoom]http://www.miez.nl/tmp/CB213.png[/imgzoom]

Rules:
1. You can replace the outline with your own colors.
2. You can use any number of colors.
3. You can resize and rotate as needed.
4. Your entry must have a minimum of 3 frames of animation.
4A. All animation frames have to stay inside the shape.
5. Deadline is Wednesday April 24th.
6. Have fun with it!

Trophies:

First Place

Second Place

Third Place

A simple, free, online tool to turn frames into an animation can be found here: http://tools.dynamicdrive.com/animatedgif/

KUBLA KHAN

April 3 - April 19

So for this Background Blitz I'd like you to take inspiration from a crusty old poem. How's that for culture and sophisication, sothiphisticon, class? ;)

This poem was written by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, an 18th century Romantic poet (and a bit of a weirdo).
I always thought that Kubla Khan would make for an interesting setting. Hope I'm not alone in this...

Here's the first 11 lines:

In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
A stately pleasure-dome decree:
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
Through caverns measureless to man
Down to a sunless sea.

So twice five miles of fertile ground
With walls and towers were girdled round:
And here were gardens bright with sinuous rills,
Where blossomed many an incense-bearing tree;
And here were forests ancient as the hills,
Enfolding sunny spots of greenery.

More of the poem and a whole bunch of background info can be found on the wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kubla_Khan#Poem

Requirements:
Make a background that references this poem in any way. Use your imagination;

  • It could be an interior or exterior shot in Xanadu
  • It could show the poem somewhere on a paper or painted on a wall
  • Sure, even this might work :D
Most importantly: have fun with it!

  • The background can be any color, any size, but must be usable as an adventure game background in AGS.

  • Deadline is Friday, April 19th

Looking forward to your entries!

Trophies:

[imgzoom]http://www.miez.nl/awards/kubla_silver.png[/imgzoom] Second place

Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Spheres

Nazis! Floozies! And loads of spheres in this super short let's-get-into-the-mood-for-the-season game.
My first AGS coding project, but I had loads of help from the rest of the FoY team (music and SFX by m0ds, coding help and bugsquashing by DKH, animation by Nacho and Big Brother).

Anyway, download it from BarnettCollege.com and have a bit of fun.

Ok. Actually just one nazi. And one floozy (but don't call her that to her face).

In anticipation of the "post-op Mittens thread" that is bound to appear, I would like to share the few pictures that I took during my Mittens defloration.  ;)

I had more pictures, but I managed to corrupt my memory card - so these are of the last three days only. Anyway:

Clicky clicky

GodDAMN I had a blast... Thanks guys and gals! ;D

You obviously got home first dude, so I have split this topic & given you the post-Mittens thread creating honours :)  --Mods

General Discussion / I was a-wandering ...
Sat 25/02/2006 15:49:57
So, in my spare time (yes - every now and then I have some) I've been tinkering around on a little program. More a toy than a game, but you might want to check it out. Remember: still very much work in progress. ;D

Read all ah-boot it:

I was not sure if this would go here, or in some of the technical threads. So any moderator stumbling over this: please move it as required. ;D
A very handy - but somewhat technical - and not AGS specific, website can be found at:

http://www-cs-students.stanford.edu/~amitp/gameprog.html

He has lots of information on all the niggly bits of programming...

I spent the last two months glued to my computer making a series of Flash games and quizzes for the Womens' Studies faculty of my local university. It's not adventure related, but it IS game related, and this is the Gen Gen after all.
So visit them, try out the games (the cheatlinks will be removed after the weekend) and go for that high-score. I know I can't 'cause I suck at the quizzes. They are 1337 in an academical feminist way.  ;D

And fear not - the website is in English.

Adventure Related Talk & Chat / FoY Tute

People have been asking about this for some time, but we've finally overcome the disastrous AdventureDevelopers crash, so the Fountain of Youth website is back on, and the long promised tutorial is online.
