Adventure Related Talk & Chat / I quit
Sat 02/04/2011 18:00:36
I hardly play AGS games anymore so I've decided to stop making walkthrough videos.

These will be my last vids http://www.youtube.com/user/jetxl

It would be nice if someone picks up the torch. It's not that hard. Just play a game a few times, find the most logical path and record it. Add some info or notes about the game and upload them.
(I personally don't like the LPs where people keep yapping in their crappy microphones overcriticizing everything, instead of keeping the game moving but that's just my opinion. I'm not really a talker anyway.)

General Discussion / blurry sprites?
Sat 23/01/2010 12:30:28
Hi there.
Recently I noticed that Firefox AND Explorer make magnified sprites look blurry. It wasn't always like this but I don't remember when it changed.
Exibit a:

Exibit b:

And this is how it looks on my screen (normal sprites do look sharp).

I've unchecked Tools> Internet Options> Advanced> Multimedia> smart image dithering if anybody was wondering.

Help?

Calling all movie buffs!
I'm looking for a few movies that I haven't seen except for the trailers on dark horizons years ago. I can't even find them using google without wading through 1000 emo blogs. Please don't make me wade through emo blogs.

The first one is quite clear in my memory. It's about some jock that gets kidnapped, walks back out of the woods on a road. He goes to class, the teacher calls out his name, he put up his hand but the teacher ignores him. He thinks it's a joke, he gets mad and then realizes he's a ghost. He then has to find out where his body is or he will die for real.

Number two must be an indie film. It's about a teen that I think killed himself and is in purgatory. He's looking for his girlfriend who he hears also killed himself, but then picks up a hitchhiker girl. It's a road trip movie, not a horror movie.

Last one is really really vague but I really really want to see this one. I can only remember one scene which might have been the trailer. It's set in suburbian America. A teenager goes to his neighbors house who are having a barbeque party. He goes to the poolhouse (or bedroom?) where his friend lives, but when he opens the door he sees his friend hung himself. He then closes the door as if he didn't see anything and walks out, along the way the mother asks if he seen her son, he says he's fine and keeps walking. The guy was a dealer and it's most likely that teens on drugs or fake gloss of suburbia was the theme of the movie.

I think I remember more details of the films but I just don't know for sure if those details are from those films or just echoes of films I've seen before (false memories and memory associations, which is what happens when one ponders too much about something). However, these are the parts I know for sure did appear in those films.

I have a soft spot for gloomy teen movies.
Since they don't pull much crowds they don't appear in theathers much and aren't constant repeated on tv. Feel free to plug names if you seen a good movie that fits this sub genre. It's a real hassle finding them, and I usually just stumble upon them by accident.

Ok, ok, this is another one of those tech support topics...

Because of the security leaks or something everybody has to upgrade to a new windows live messenger version (no# 9 i believe).
The problem though is that I'm using win xp 64 (which is awesome) and for some reason microsoft decided to shaft all the xp 64 users by not supporting it on this OS (read here), even though it SHOULD and HAS run correctly was it not for the setup file checking the OS version and then cancelling the installation. Messenger 8 and below worked fine and I got 8.5 running too after finding an unofficial patch.
But now I'm back at square one. I managed to install messenger 9 but it won't connect. It says that the service is temp unavaileble, though I'm sure that's not the problem, and it's not the firewall eighter.
I tried finding a solution with google but the pages it links to are sometimes 5 years old, and I obviously can't ask people on msn for help so I'm turning to the forums as a last resort.

I doubt people can help me with this problem, I just needed to vent, but maybe they CAN tell me about a messenger alternative that they use. Like trillion, except free and without twitter crap.

General Discussion / About new computers
Sun 07/06/2009 12:06:28
Hi there.

It's been years since I bought a new computer and this one is waning so I'm thinking about buying a new one.
Usually I buy one in the price class of low to mid range, but since I use the same computer for years and years I was thinking to go all out this time, so I'll be up to date for a decenia.
However, as I page through the hardware reviews I don't really see a big difference. It's all 100 bucks extra for just a few bits more power.
Speaking of power, my room is already +5 °C hotter than any other room in the house because the pc is on (and that when I'm just browsing the internet). Will two gforce 200 series + quad core + huge ass monitor + power adaptors turn my room into a rocked exaust pipe with the sound level to boot? And will the electric bill be so high that the cops think I'm growing pot in the attic? ...Which I'm not.

So to summarize: what's the best hardware that money can buy a.t.m. (or at least can dispay all the enemies there are on screen in, say Fallout 3, with no frame drop) but also keeps heat-noise-power level down to a minimum.

Hi there.
You might not know this but on may 25th it will be exactly a year since I started to record and upload ags games to my youtube channel.

I really enjoy this hobby of mine because it lets me play a game several times very thoroughly so I can get to know it like a close friend. I haven't been very consistant, sometimes not recording anything in 3 months, sometimes recording several games on one day. But I'm proud to say that I've finished 59 games so far which is just above an avarage of one game a week!

Anyway, for my 61st recording (the 60th is already finished) I'll take requests.
So just shout out an AGS freeware game that I haven't recorded yet and I'll upload the most popular one next week. Voting ends 26th so don't delay.

Reality-on-the-Norm / Your favourite RON games
Thu 30/04/2009 18:59:01
Hi there.
As a hobby I record AGS games to create an archive for future generations (that can't be bothered to play games themselves).
I've recorded a few RON games, but I'm a total RON n00b and I don't know wich ones are the crème de la crème and which ones are... not.
If a few people can point out the best ones and explain why I'd really appreciate it.

So saturday 2 soldiers were shot by the IRA, monday a police man.
I thought the IRA was dead.
Was this a long time coming?

Since I only watch Comedy Central's Daily Show online and the Liberal media here in europe, it feels like Obama already won. I however dont want to count my chickens untill they are hatched. This is the same country that gave Bush a second term (because his first term was such a succes). The silent majority has not yet spoken.
I'm always interested in hearing who the yanks are going to vote for and why.

Hi there.
Over the past few months, instead of putting effort into my own AGS games, I've been recording other people's AGS games. They call it longplays, but I call it [AGS walkthrough].
There are about 30 games up now, and there are still many on my to-do list.
I'm sure some people discovered it themselves but it's only now that I'm comfortable sharing my hobby on these forums (you bunch of judgemental freaks).

So check it out:

Interesting. This article digs a bit deeper behind the two cancelled FT sequals. They explain the plot summery and show some concept art I haven't seen before.

Damn, now I'd really like to play FT: Payback...

The song I'm looking for was performed by a brit-pop band. To be honest, I'm looking for the video clip for this song.

It circled on MTV around the same time (a bit after?) as Pumping On Your Stereo by Supergrass. I initially though it was by Supergrass because the band members looked similar, but i guess pale skin and greasy black hair does that. My search on Youtube for the clip came up empty, so did the titles in their discografie.
The title had "ghost" or something similar in it. I could be way off.

I don't remember any of the lyrics appart from the chorus that was: Ai ai ai ai aiaiai!
A google search for lyrics turned up empty too.
There was a scream of a woman mixed in as well, but the song itself was not very screamy.

The video was like scenes from an italian horror movie. It featured a street in a typical english working class neighborhood. People would enter a house and horrific things would happen. Blood pumping through the walls, ect. The band plays filmed through weird angle camera shots. I think there was a bath tub with blood in it.
But the most recognizeble part was that later on they used a black sceen with the words CENSOR or SCENE MISSING on it a lot.

The video really stuck to me, and I still think of it when films have scenes cut out to "protect" us. I want to know if it's still worth remembering.

Please help me because it's driving me bonkers.

General Discussion / Diary of the Dead
Mon 21/01/2008 11:07:30
George Romero is filming a new zombie movie, Diary of the Dead, which is filmed from the first person perspective (like Cloverfield and a gazillion clones before that).

Anyway, for those creative minds with a camera, you can send in a short horror movie and it might apear on the DVD.

And apparently he's 39...

Happy new year, folks.
It wasn't all good, but at least it was consistant.
I give it a 7 on the scale of Awesomeness.

What are your thought?

And no, I can't make a real game even if the lives of 300 kittens depend on it.

General Discussion / Internet radio is dying
Thu 24/05/2007 16:16:54
I listen to Soma-FM for half a year, but that may end with the new increasement of radio stations royalty fees. Broadcast stations as well as internet station need to pay a fee per song, but the new fees are not realistic compared to the income of a internet station. Senate bill S.1353 has been introduced to make the royalty fee fair for internet radio, but it still has to pass.

Read on here: http://somafm.com/crb/
And contact your representative.

Yet once again.

33 dead.
At this point I can't even think of anything else to say.

The trailer for the new and last PotC movie is released.
http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/piratesofthecaribbeanatworldsend.html

Oddly enough, I can't spot any scenes "borrowed" from Monkey Island. Not yet.
Although, if Jack is mad, he must be Mad Jack the Pirate.

WRITING COMPETITION
November 16th till December 15th.

Fine print.
- Participants will write a story not limited by length unless specified by the month's rules.
- It's impossible for a judge to be impartial in this kind of competition where, for instance, great writing can save a meager plot. So the voting will be public.
- The competition should last a month. After that, we will have five days for voting. These deadlines are not absolute, but try to meet them.
- The object of this is to write a story. It can be a short story with 10 lines, it can be a whooper with 20 pages. It can have no characters, or a myriad of them. It can be in first person, or third; present or past or future tense. Your ONLY limitations are the ones the rules state, if any.
- The winner provides the theme and rules for the next comp.
- The comp-starter may participate. It's happened already, and this voting system should eliminate unfairness. Of course, out of fairness, the comp starter should start it without already forming an idea of the story he may write

Blegh, I bored of those stories about vampires and orcs. It's time to think up a new creature!

Your mission, if you have the SAND to except, is to write a tale about a new, original fantasie creature.
It can be set in a fatasie, modern or sci-fi realm.
It can be shoking story about an alien with twelve mouths, or a fairytale about a glowing butterfly.
But it can't be a mixture of existing creatures, like a zombie dragon or a liger (a cross between a lion and a tiger, and there's magic involved).
Remeber, it's not how cool the monster is but how good the story is that wins the prize.
