I can't get donnie darko to work!!!! When I try to load it up it say Cannot set video mode. Its playing at 320 x 200 8bit so i even tried 640x400 but that doesn't work! Help! help!

I have an idea that I have been working on for a few months for an adventure game. Its called Inferno: A Photojounalists Adventure, as seen in the subject line. I have a story layed out and backgrounds and such but I have no idea how to script. I think this is a valid idea for a game due to the original content and limitless range I can explore with the story.
