Is there a way to detect the tint of the object.

I know you can set the tint so i would assume there would be some way to check if the object is tinted.

Ok I guess a little background first.  I started a new game with the defualt Iconbar and added the module for monkey_05_06.
I wanted to basically use the two gui's in conjunction.

So to explain... The Iconbar would handle most of the verbs (like walk, Talk, Look, Inventory, save Game and Quit), and the Verbcoin would only become active when the player clicked on the use icon in the iconbar.  The Use verbcoin would be basically an expansion of use like Open, Move, Pickup.

And the issue...
Well I was wondering how to go about Combining the two guis to get the best out of both becuase out of box the verbcoin basically overrides the iconbar it appears but clicking on the iconbar does not allow for the mouse mode to change?

Any thoughts would be helpful and greatly appreciated.

Critics' Lounge / Help With Character Design
Sun 24/05/2009 18:08:54
I recently posted a demo for everyone to play and have had some comments about the main characters design.

Overall I am fairly happy with the look the only thing that bugs me is the front view.  so maybe yall could help.  Feel free to paint over and change it however you wish.  Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

If you haven't tried the demo and would like to here is the post for that

After winning the last Colouring Ball Competition, I went out and partied.  Probably a little to hard becuase when I got up this morning I had a tattoo on my chest, but for the life of me I can't tell what it is.  Maybe you can help...

Is a classic 8 bit character... is it a heart with I love Steve... just make whatever you want.

Rules of the game...

You can flip or rotate it
You can't resize the image
You can only use 9 colors
and finally once you complete your design you must be willing to get it tattooed on your body (only kidding)
Final submissions due June 2nd to be judged... unless more time is needed let me know

Just curious what people thought about wether it would be useful.  I know people can just post a request for help, but seems like it can get lost in the shuffle.

Ok this is a rather broad question seeing as how I haven't even started on the concept but I am think about trying to do a simple coloring book using ags.  So mostly I am looking for people to rack thier brains and come up with some any kind of solutions...

My thought was to basically have a gui of the average paint colors Red Orange Yellow Green Blue and Purple (there would be no paint brushes or anything to complicated just filling areas on the screen)  and then within the "room"  have a bunch of white objects grouped together to create a picture like you would see in any kids coloring book.  So then basically have to do 7 colored versions of that object so if it were 20 objects there would have to be about 160 different spirtes dealing with that room.  Here is just kinda a rough layout to help get the idea...

So I guess my main question would be is there a less space consuming way to achieve what I am trying to do?

Right now I have a part in my game that I want the player to walk over a certain area and when he walks on it the floor boards creak and he backs up saying something about the floor being squeaky then the player can use an inventory item say like grease to turn off the effect of the squeeky floor is there an easy way to do this without using very much code or none at all?

I am excited to announce my first game in Production

DERVISH LARSEN IN ALL THE SHINY THINGS

Story:
I know what you’re thinking,
“Oh great another Private Eye, another hero come to get the dame, save the day, and take no reward except the honor of being truthful, honorable and valiant…”  Well, I ain’t none of those.  All those stereotypes about hoodlums, well, stuff those into a crate, wrap it in a bag of flesh and bone, and that is me.
If some schmuck tries to tell you, “Oh, this guy is scum.  Don’t worry the good guys will get him.”  Bah, Let me set you straight, kid.  Ain’t nobody good left in the world even the police will turn a blind eye if the price is right.  Knights, Damsels, Slaying the Evil Dragon, all Fairy Tale stuff.  There is only two kindsa people; you and the rest of the world…Who you gonna trust?
But enough about that…Hmmm…Me?  You want to know who I am that I can make such sweeping generalities?  I ain’t nobody, at least here in Darq City, I ain’t nobody.  Back home, they call me Dervish Larsen, well except, Tommy ‘Two Teeth’ he calls me dead, which is why I decided to pick up stakes and try my luck in Darq City.  Course if yous be needin' it in plain english... I am a thief, a grifter, anything laying around I 'll use the old 5 finger discount.
(Since there seems to be confusion about the actual plot of the game I will put it in plan english, and not just let dervish ramble on about nothing in particular.  Dervish arrives in Darq City with no money becuase he is running away from a gangster back west.  Now to even survive or to even just have a place to sleep, Dervish must steal, and it is your job to help him steal as much as possible.)

*UPDATE*
March 6 2009
I did some major work on scripting today...which always seems to take me forever...not much of a programmer here so I have to always test and retest my code.  Also created a new animation for the dervish character, and have edited the some of the backgrounds based on you guys suggestions.  Thanks so much for the posts, it really helps to encourage me and push me closer to a final product.

Ok Well I regret to inform you that I have done little work on the project... the grind of scripting stikes again but for those of you interested and those of you not, here is a demo I put together not sure if I will get in trouble for asking for comment on it so I suppose I will start a post in CNC forum.

Well as it seems to be my luck. My Computer CRASHED :( luckily most of the work I had perviously done was saved on my external hard drive, but all the new work I had put into it has vanished, which is disheartening but I shall prevail.  I guess if you haven't tried it yet the demo is still availble.

October 14 2009
After taking a bit of a break I have decided to step away from this game.  It was my first game I worked on and I think my goal was far to big for a first time.  I still would like to develop it but I need to brush up on my coding and other things becuase I really like my idea and story and want to wait until I have more skills so I can better create my enitre vision for the game.  I am currently working on some smaller games to get me more smarterer :)... Anyway I will leave up the demo, and if people really want me keep work on it post and let me know.

I am currently working on a quasi sequel  to the old Sierra game Colonel's Bequest.
I was just wanting yalls input about how to make the poster better.
The layout seems kinda heavy on the left side but I will let yall decide and not try to influence.

General Discussion / Christian Games...Anyone?
Wed 19/11/2008 06:33:55
I was just kinda curious if there is anyone out there who would be interested in doing some sort of christian games... I am not talking about silly kids games or just making bible stories into games... I would like to make a game that deals with christian topics in an adult way that maybe teens or adults would enjoy playing.  Anyway if there is any interest post or pm me :)

ok so this is some what similar to this post http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=28311.0

but a little different I don't want to use just a look icon I want to use an inventory item and the character is completely invisible until you pass the item over the hidden character also I think it would be neat to have some sort of screen effect where the the circle of the magnifying glass is clear and everything else on the screen is faded or something to that effect. just curious on how that might be accomplished.

Critics' Lounge / Animating A Ghost
Tue 16/09/2008 05:59:04
Ok so I am doing a game that involves ghosts and have tried animating them with just some simple up and down movement to imitate floating, but it just doesn't achieve what I was hoping for.  I was hoping maybe someone out there might have some helpful tips on how to achieve a better ghost walkcycle.  Any help would be greatly apprieciated.

I am not really sure where to post this but this seemed more reasonible area since it is not really a tech question about AGS.  Anyway, I was curious about writing a design document for my Game.  I have started some of the work on creating the game in AGS, but have seemed to stumble becuase i am creating puzzles and other things on the fly.  I guess my question is for those who have maybe completed a game or are currently working on one how have you indivually planned your game before really battling programing?

Well nevermind after some searching i found some interesting ones but hey if yall have any more ideas or anything to add let me know.

Ok My question is there anyway to easily make the character walk down the stairs to the subway.  in other words using possibly walkbehinds or something.  I probably have to make a seperate animation but if anyone has any ideas let me know.

In order to do a cutscene where the character exits the one room and goes into another and the cutscene continues I obviouly cannot do that in the room script. Is there an easy way to continue a cutscene into another room?

Thanks

OK I know this topic will probably be locked before I get a decent answer but here goes anyway.

I have an object (might have to make it a character)
The object is a dog and i want the dog to follow (with his head not the whole body) where the main character walks and snap at him.  So that if the character is on the right side of the dog he snaps and barks to his right and so on.
I have a right, right3/4, left, left 3/4 and center animation.
How would i go about implementing it into the game with as much ease as possible?
