When he enters a competition in Kerplow Rock Magazine, he never dreamed he would actually win first prize! 

But won, he has.  And now he gets to spend the afternoon with his favourite band, Uptempo Maniacs, and get a private performance of their new song. 
He is SO excited!  He still can't believe it, even when the limo driver drops him off at the band's mansion.

He has his autograph book, all ready to get autographs from all 6 of the band members.  And he CANNOT WAIT for the special private performance. 

But if he thinks he's in for an easy afternoon, he's got another think coming...

Hey guys.   

I'm excited to have made my first game, and I'm looking for some Game Testers to test it.
Looking for bugs, typos, or anything else that seems out of place.

It's a freeware game, made in AGS.

HEADBANGER'S HEAVEN: A ROCK N ROLL ADVENTURE

My game is almost ready for beta testing (finally!   )

I added a 'Load' button in the Main Menu screen, cos... that's a handy thing to have.

But how do I link to it?  How do I load a game from the Main Menu?
The 'Load' feature is a sub-menu within the game, where I can Load, Restart, Quit etc.  Not an actual screen.
So how do I Load a game from the Main Menu screen?   

I recently replaced the backgrounds and sprites in my game, changing RON stuff for my own art. 

Changing the backgrounds meant I had to re-do all the Hotspots, Walkable areas, etc. 

Now my character still walks fine left to right, and in & out of rooms.  But he won't climb up the stairs anymore.  He just walks to bottom of the stairs... and stops.   

I don't understand why this is happening.  The Walkable areas look fine (see picture).  I even tried to add 'Walkable Area 2', but that made no difference. 
I couldn't find any explanation for this in either the help manual, or the forums, or YouTube tutorials. 

It worked fine when I used the RON graphics - he went up and down the stairs with no problem.  So why does it not work now?
Does anyone know how to fix this?

Long time forum user here, but now I'm working on my first AGS game.  I just need some help with the art.

I Wanna Rock   



Details:
An adventure game about a rock fan who enters a competition in a music magazine, and wins an all-expenses trip to spend the afternoon with his favourite band, UpTempo Maniacs. 
The band will also play an exclusive live set, just for you.  But things don't exactly go smoothly...



Positions Available:
The game will probably be 640x400. 
I'm looking for someone to help with backgrounds, characters, object items, and Inventory items.   

I'm currently using resources from RON (and a few other places) as placeholder art. 
But obviously, I'd like the game to have it's own art.

The game takes place in a mansion, with 45 rooms spread over 4 Floors. 
There are 10 characters that need to walk in 4 directions. 
There's a whole bunch of 'Object' items and Inventory items.



Deadline:
When it's ready. 



Comments:
I'm looking for a style that's slightly cartoony, so... nothing too realistic\serious.
A strong colour palette is preferred. 
Maybe something like Fran Bow, Monkey Island, or Maniac Mansion\Day Of The Tentacle?
But I'm open to ideas.  Most of the characters are rockers, if that helps. 

This will be a free game, so I cannot pay you.  But you will, of course, get credit for your art.

I just came across a problem in my game that didn't occur to me before.  Hope I can explain this clearly. 

There are 5 characters, and I have to perform a task for each of them.
When I complete the task, they give me a verbal clue, which is going to be for a later puzzle (eg, I will have 5 verbal clues).
The trigger for each verbal clue is:
   I give an item from my Inventory to the character. 
  Then they give me a certain item in return. 
  Then they tell me the verbal clue.

The thing is... my Inventory is frequently changing. 
The item I give to the character, obviously, leaves my Inventory.
And the item the character gives to me, changes when I complete the next task.

So when I've done the task for Character 2, I no longer have the 'trigger' item from Character 1, because that item has changed.
And without the 'trigger' item, the character won't say the verbal clue. 

Is there a way round this?  Can I somehow make the characters say their verbal clues, even when I don't have the 'trigger' item anymore?
Something like... "Well, I did give you the item, so here is the verbal clue again."?

Or is my only option to remove the verbal clues and abandon the later puzzle? 

I'm very confused with the Variable Counter commands. 

I have a long corridor, with stairs going up to the 1st Floor. 
Now I don't want my character to climb up the stairs until he has turned on 8 radiators on the Ground Floor (the radiators are in several different rooms). 

I created a Global Variable (Type Int) in the Global Variable section.
I added int RadiatorCount; to the Global Script.
And I added the following to the Room (in this case, the hallway) script:

Now it doesn't seem to make any difference if I turn the radiators on, or not.
The player walks onto the stairs, and says "I can't go up there...', then the game hangs. 
I have to quit with Alt & X.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

I'm having a problem with the dialogues. 

When I 'build' dialogues in the editor, everything looks fine.
But then, when I Run the game to test it, the apostrphes (') are missing.
See Options 1 and 3 in the screenshot.

But it's not with every dialogue line.  Just some of them.
Why is this happening?  And how do I fix it?

I've been struggling with this for a few days, and I'm tearing my hair out now.   
Any help is appreciated.

I have some dialogue where the player can pick from 3 options.  And I use the GoTo-Dialog to get to a new set of options, and GoTo-Previous to return to the first set of options. 
Here's my code:

The dialogue starts like this:

The problem is, when it goes back to the previous dialogue, it starts right from the top again, with:

How do I stop it from repeating those first 3 lines every time, and just start again with the options? 

Working on my first game here. 

The Player Character suddenly refuses to talk to anyone.
I run a Test Build... use the Talk cursor to talk to another character... and nothing happens. 
And I can't figure out why.  He talked fine before. 

I've probably done something really stupid... but what?

I have a *slight* obsession with dragons.  There's so many different dragon species, and each of them just as glorious as the last. 
I find these mythical beasts to be magnificant, powerful, magical, and completely fascinating! 





But what do YOU think about dragons?
Are they the earth's savouir, man's protector, or the scurge of the earth? 

I want you to tell me a story about a dragon or dragons.

I'm a big fan of the King's Quest games.  Who doesn't love King Graham, Queen Valanice, Prince Alexander, and Princess Rosella? 

I've been working on a fan site recently, with several reviews & walkthroughs.  It's still a work in progress, but I hope to also include KQ demos, teaser trailers, maps, art, and other things as well.

I don't know about Crystal Shard's version, but the version available HERE (Screen 7) is definitely DRM-free, so you don't have to touch steam.

I'm not a steam-fan either, so I can understand how frustrating this is.
