After some pretty long time, failed projects, expectations, some trips on new states of mind and alotza other stuff... I'm back, and this time I don't present you remakes or horror, or anything between the two.

Now, my friends, I present you to

Love the Adventure

The Story:

What is love?

Love is about Love.
Love is about Family.
Love is about Passion.

Love is about...
Love.

Love is a ghost, trapped somewhere, the Inbetween, in between lives - The Real Life and the Afterlife.

Love wishes he was alive. He used to love his life, but now he lost it, and the only way to go back to his beloved life is to gather 5 moonflowers hidden on the In Between.

Will Love live again?

You tell me.

Development Diary:

June 10
The idea came to my mind after watching a fan made video of Kettering, on youtube. The video was made using Adobe Flash and Scribblertoo.
Decided to make a deep, sentimental and reflexive, and minimalistic, adventure game using Scribblertoo and AGS.

June 11
Made the final character design - A little coward ghost called Love-, also created some sceneries and sketched the first mission.

June 12
Some more character designs. Done some animated tests to see how well the Squigglevision effect would apply on the game and the effects are simply gorgeous.

June 15
More character design, hired a bro to make one of the histories. Worked on the character's backstory and set some art guidelines. Resolution is now set to be 800x600 in grayscale. The game will use Squigglevision animation for everthing interactive and for the characters.

June 16
Created Snowby, the Ice Cold DJ, a huge snowball who'll serve as sound test to people.
Some songs by Moby were kindly given by the man himself.

June 17
Removed the Mask from the final design of Love.
Made some promo art.
Made the thread on AGS forums.

June 18
Made a new scenery, the Bridge of the Cliff by the Lake. Posted it on the wordpress site.
Made some new concepts and hired a new artist to help me do the graphics.
More info can be found @ lovetheadventure.wordpress.com, but it'll be compiled here very very soon.

This week I stumbled upon a very interesting concept for an adventure game:
A full-motion video adventure game, like Myst, Phantasmagoria or Dark Seed.

So I made a quick but very meaningful search on the forum and found about the Theora video player, that can actually play extremely compressed videos during the gameplay with an more than awesome quality.

The thing is, I'm making up a kind of game um my head, something that goes like this:

A 15~25s video of the current scene/event plays, giving the illusion of a real time recording. The hotspots can be applied on this video, and they can trigger to another camera angle/video cutscene. There is no need for a player model because I can make it in full first person, or in second person (kinda like third person, but with different angles and the indirect control of the model's actions).
I can make cutscenes for almost everthing, from item grabbing to door opening or stuff like that...

It's kinda weird, but I'll have to organize stuff very carefully. A simple walk from a room to another would require a lot of cutscenes, like
Current room scene
Door Opening Cutscene
Character getting out of the room cutscene
the corridor scene
Walking to the end of the corridor cutscene
Opening another door cutscene
entering said room cutscene.

So like... Does anyone here have any opinion/sugestions on how I could make it more simply or anything? I would be glad to hear your ideas.

Thanks in advance.

The History by Itself.

It was a sad morning on the Sancta Izabella Sanatorium. It was 1984, and it was raining heavily. These days went by slowly for the elderly that slept peacefully, waiting the kind embrace of death, and Death lovely took them one by one.
I can remember of this one, one of them that didn’t felt so good about ending his time in time. On the last room of the longest corridor, there lived Mr. Bacarell. Mr. Bacarell didn’t liked life, but He disliked even more the idea of ending his puny existence in a cold bed. He was a genius, a famous writer and a voracious businessman no more. In his 84 years, he created from nothing the biggest book Publisher of his country: Tarantela Books. A man so stuck into life that the picture of his cold body, stiff in a bed creeped him beyond the bounds. One could say He was death’s personal enemy, but biggest admirer: his extensive publications talked almost always about her.
The Death of Jamelan Caucasus.
Death by herself in Technicolor.
Let’s talk about Death.
Fear Death without Fear.
The book of the Deathly Arguments.
A morbid man, Ziolauros T. Bacarell found himself succumbing to the final call of nature, he was no boy anymore, and now would meet personally the muse of his works.
On that same morning, he wrote down a letter directed to his healthy, chubby and gloomy relatives, telling them that his time was ending and, slowly, he became fonder of death than he believed he could be. He knew that Death meant nothing but the return to the Glosandar, and that soon enough he’d be reborn into another creature. The idea of that not even his soul would went into waste comforted him as he wrote:

‘’Dearest family Tarantela Bacarell, I came through this letter to sadly announce to all of you that my life is reaching it’s limit, and that the certain death of my actual body is nothing less than certain and a sadistic matter of time. I am no longer afraid of anything, anyway. I am aware that my soul longs for a chance of returning the Streams of Glosandar, and that it’s will cannot naturally be neglected. I am also aware that my ideas, my stories and all that I have created will forever live in the form of all books I have sold. I must say that I’m a complete man: I made the entire world know my name, my work, my ideas and my way of looking to things. I made the Glosandar a public matter and now everyone knows its destiny: The Eternal Flux of Life.
By the time you all read this, I will be a windy, vaporous soul descending to the Stream, and by the time you finish, I am almost sure that my soul will complete another being, living on him until this time come again.
Please don’t frown, I haven’t spent enough time with you to be worth half a tear, nor have my books made me more of a good man. I spent my live in closure, spending my riches on futile pleasures and in the maintenance of my book factories. Now, that I will carry nothing but my sweet memories of everything I saw and learned, I will leave all my mundane belongings to you, in order of giving all of you the comfort I retained myself from giving during all my life.
I’ll go in peace, and die as I was born: Struggling to breath, fighting all the odds of nature, with my eyes tightly closed and my breath failing. This time, I will do it alone, alone and by myself.
I won’t be alone for very long, though.’’

On that same morning, the nurse served him a delicious tomato soup, but it was as cold and dark like the blood stuck forever into his veins. He met the ultimate fate, and now laid cold in a bed, but in his mouth there wasn’t the smirk of a peaceful going, there was fear and sorrow on his whited out dry eyes. A more detailed inspection, a girlish scream and shocking, and it was discovered: He was stabbed in the heart with a cirurgic scalpel, and died by the hands of someone before death could take him as the nature rules.
By his bedside, a destroyed ink ribbon, his portable and inseparable writing machine and many scrapped papers, but no letter.
Who could have the stone-cold heart to kill an old man on his last moments? And why would someone kill him, on his last breathes?
Where is the letter?

No one will ever know. At least, not until 20 years in the future. That’s where our story really begins.

The pictures, as the name say.

Updates:
08/05/08-
Before begining, I'd like to sorry myself to al members that I mistreated. I beg your pardon, and your comprehension that I was having such a hard time, but I humanly forgot that you guys got nothing to o with it.

I'm overhauling this topic with more details about the history and the way the game will flow, I hope to have more feedback from all of you. I'm also searching a crew to help me keep on the game, since Im'm the only zero in doing any programming. Though I can do something, my competence to make a game the size I want is nonexistant.

Until the ends of the week, I will add the main storyline of the game, two new pictures and some concept art. By the next week, I will have a demo of the main theme.

Cheers, mates.

SOOO this time I'm really gonna take a project on, but I'm having serious issue with the softwares. see if you guys get what i mean...

1. Is it possible to make an inventory menu like the one in Wintermute Engine? (Like, it only shows as a bar with multiple windows on it, each window have an item inside it.) That when you hover the mouse in the top of the acreen, it drops down the inventory.

2. Is it possible to import images with transparency directly? As in .PNG, without having to use pinkscreen?

3. Can I make a game with the native resolution of 640x480 windowed mode? I heard that AGS can't show this resolution.

4. About the verbcoin, I wish to know if its possible to do something like: You right-click, and it opens a verbcoin on the middle of the screen, from which you can choose two options (examinate and interact). Also if it's possible for it to highlight the selected option.

AGS is way more simple than WME, but it haves all of this stuff (High res, Quality Sound, Excelent Verbcoin and support to visually make menus and stuff, also transparency) and I dont feel confortable to stick with it, since there's almost no one in the forum, which have almost any script and support... Please answer my questions quick so I can start working asap.

So like, everyone showing their projects and stuff, so i thought about showing mine too.

It's an experimental project. A survival-horror-like game that makes the player anxious and stressed. Not like the game is crap and people will get mad at it, it's just that the music, soundscape, artistic direction and all makes the player feels like hes in constant danger, a suspense game.

About the history, it's like this till now:

A train that never arrives.
A dream that never ends.
A World that never was.
You find yourself on a mysterious building, you just woke up there after a nap on your train. You find a note on your pocket: The train is gonna crash. Get out of here or hundreds of people will die.
Now it's up to you to solve the puzzles, find the treasures and get out of this hellish place, that is commanded by an evil, supernatural force.

Now, pictures:

I'm actually needing some expert to help me do the coding, the effects anc such. Already got an Sound Technician and I do the grafics and the historyline.
I'm working with a resolution of 640x440 and 32bit sound and graphics.

SOOO that's it for a while. Questions?
