Hi guys!

Well, yeah. It seems, that I'm... back. Wow. It's been a while. Nice to see, that this community's still blazing. You rock, people!

So, back on the track and as always there's that big dream of a full-length game and I started and started over again multiple times, but still can't get a hold on it. I ASSUME, that it's because I simply doesn't start right. There's actually one big thing, that my mind's wrapping around all the time: How do you go from a story, that you got in your head, to the puzzle-reaking game in the end?

So I thought about just asking you guys (especially the ones, that allready got a full length one in their hands) on how YOU go and design your adventure game?

Do you write a story first, slash it into pieces and fill in the puzzles? Do you use design documents? Story bibles?

Please, give me your ideas. Shoot!

Thanks.

Kind regards

Hi everybody!

Do you know the feeling, when you're lying in your bed and the best game idea ever pops up in your mind, you stand up and the second you turn on your system you only stare at your desktop and suddenly lost the will to actually create that game?

Well, I know that feeling -- a lot.

With adventure game developing being the ultimate creative work there is - at least when doing it all yourself - it's really hard to get the creativity you need to actually be developing a whole game.

Well, think about it. Adventure game developing means writing (game development), drawing (backgrounds+sprites), composing (music/sounds) and doing logical stuff (programming/scripting).

So with all you developers, that I admire, who actually done games - and great games, that is - my question is: how do you actually spark your creativity - and hold it -, so that you can create complete games in only a few months?

I actually have all the ideas I need; I even nearly completed a game design document. But that's it. My creativity only lasted during making "One Day A Mosquito" - and that game's nearly thirty seconds long.

I'd like to do something great, a medium-length or even a full game and I really think, that I would have the abilities to write, design and compose. But how?

Help me here, please.

Thanks!

So....

I know, that this has been talked over and over again. But I'd like to start a new discussion about it.

As there are many so called 2.5-Adventures (that's 3D characters on a 2d backdrop) out there now, I think we...err..Chris should really think about implementing this. This could enlarge AGS functionality even more and make it more "modern".

Before you flame me (though I know you will ;-) ): I don't like pure 3d-Adventures (like The Westerner, although Broken Sword 3 just looked fine) myself, but I think, that 2.5D-Adventures are coming more and more and I can't find something bad on them - besides the resource and hardware consumption.

So. My opinion: Chris, if it's possible and good to embed, do it!

And now: start the flamewar ;-)

Hi there!

This is my first released game ever and it's an entry to the July-Mags at the same time.

I hope, that it's not too short for MAGS.

You can download it here:

Here's a screenshot:

Hope you like it.

Oh-- and it is definitely not by Yahtzee ;-)

Hi there!

Just a short question, I can't sort it out:

I want to have a character, that is always animated with view 2, when he's not moving. I thought about using the idle view and putted a :

if (!character[EGO].walking)
Ã,  Ã,  {Ã,  Ã,  Ã,
Ã,  Ã,  Ã,  SetCharacterIdle(EGO,2,1);
Ã,  Ã,  }

into repeatedly_execute, but somehow it won't work. The view isn't displayed.

Does someone have a suggestion?

Hi everyone!

Something weird is happening to my AGS lately. I've been searching for a music I don't want to play at a particular room, but in another. So I searched and searched but never found a "Play Music on room load"-entry or a PlayMusic()-command.

Then I just tried to check "Play Music on room load" and enter a number. After I saved the room that setting WAS GONE!!  ???

Is this something like a bug or did I do something wrong??

Thanks in advance.

**edit**

Whoops. By the way: I'm using AGS 2.56 ;-)

Hi everyone!

I just stepped over a problem using 2.55. I tried to do a SetCharacterView(<NPC>,15) after creating View 15.
But when I test the game it stops and says "Tried to set view 15, max is 14" !?!??

Well, I see 15 views in the view-dialog. Even after creating an empty 16th view, the same message occurs.

What have I done wrong???

What would be cooler than a Web-Version of AGS, eh? Opening page http://www.tierraentertainment.com/webags/kq2vga.html and you can play kq2vga online through a java-applet-supported AGS-interpreter.

Well, I suggest that, but I don't think, I could program it ;-)

What do you think?
