Do you feel like spicing up your game and adding some motion?
Why not try a panoramic shot?
You can even make it loopable for a full 360° effect.

This month, we want you to show us a room that's been designed with panning in head.
It can be anything from a ride in car to a first-person perspective view.
Any picture meant to be used with the panorama module is fine too.
And it doesn't have to be horizontal panning.

Deadline: April 30th

Entries will be judged on the usual suspects:
- Concept: Is it a creative interpretation of the theme that also tells us something about the world in which it takes place.
- Playability: Does it have clear walkable areas, things to interact with, etc?
- Artistic Execution: How well was the chosen style executed? - What's the feeling of the place? - Does the image convey the wanted atmosphere?

Off to work!

Hints & Tips / The Sphinx of Time
Mon 11/11/2024 18:22:00
Seems like I'm stuck in a moment I can't get out of (you too?)

Spoiler
In no particular order: I entered the museum, translated the glyphs, found the coins under the couch, moved the planet with Kermit's arm.

Now, I'm trying to power up the 'space radio' to no avail. Dang!

Theme: ALIEN

etc...

As discussed in the last background Blitz, the theme for this month is a tie-in to the last MAGS competition which you can still join since this month will see you finish your MAGS game (jeez, that's a lot of links).

Basically, what it means is that your background must feature something alien. Whether it be little green men, flying saucers or alienation more figuratively, there must be something of the extra-terrestrial in this month's entries.

Shall you decide to take part in the MAGS competition, you may use this background in your game too.

Deadline: October 27th (edited)

As usual the entries will be judged on:
- Concept: your background should tell us something about the kind of patrons that regularly visit the bar.
- Playability: does it have clear walkable areas, things to interact with, etc?
- Artistic Execution: what's the feeling of the place? Does the image convey the wanted atmosphere?

To your pencils!

RAMSHACKLE ASYLUM

The late Ghost wrote a mouthwatering pitch for his last project Collateral Jelly:

"An alien fleet makes their home right under a ramshackle asylum because you gotta have a sinister home base. It's a matter of style. And they have a plan. An evil, secret plan, deliciously overcomplicated and with just enough wriggle room to fail.

Enter Willow, Earth's last- and best- hope.
She knows the plan. She can save us all if she plays her cards right. Unfortunately, she's several cards short of a full deck, and an ace up your sleeves isn't much help when you're in a straitjacket."

***

So...you see it coming...I want you to help Willow escape from her asylum cell in what's presumably the beginning of the game.

Let's flesh out the premises for this competition:

You're locked in a cell, restrained with a straitjacket.
From time to time, a single guardian watches the residents through a camera on the ceiling. You can ask her to:
- take you to the toilets.
- let you draw on paper with paint sticks.
- bring you some food. Her tray contains mashed potatoes in a plastic bowl, mint flavoured syrup in a plastic cup, an anxiolytic pill and a spoon.

She'll untie you before each activity but will tie you up again when you're done.

Your room contains:
- a standard bed with a mattress, sheets and your beloved cushion (Uncle Norris).
- padded walls, torn in several places. The largest tear reveals a small hole in the wall. You can peep into the adjacent cell through it.
- a high barred window overlooking the nearby forest. One of the bars is loose. Even if it was removed, the opening wouldn't be wide enough to let you out.

The toilet room leads to several cubicles. In the main room, there's a faucet, soap, a mirror made of safety glass, a hand towel, a hand dryer and a mop.
A low cabinet with a single drawer reveals a nail clipper, cotton swabs and a first-aid kit containing bandages, a safety pin, band-aids and a spray disinfectant.
The cubicles contain toilet paper, brushes, a discarded magazine, a twisted hanger that's been used to unclog a pipe and a fish in one of the toilet bowls.

The Rules!

Participants respond to the set-up by writing entries that must do the following:
1. Use at least 3 of the provided elements (inventory, NPCs, a piece of the room like a cabinet or faucet etc.)
2. Give a step-by-step walkthrough of your puzzle solution.
3. Don't add new elements. For example, if the room is a forest, breaking a thin branch off a tree makes sense unless the host said the trees were huge and tall. But adding a hollowed-out stump with a bear sleeping in it is too specific. Assume all important elements have been mentioned by the host.
4. Keep any dialog elements summarized rather than typing out the whole conversation (for example, "threaten the mailman", "ask the child for advice", and so on, instead of giving every spoken line).

Each contest runs for two weeks to allow for a good number of entries, and then it switches to voting for one week. The participant whose solution gets the most votes gets to come up with the next scenario! (Please also provide a link to these rules).

Voters use the criteria of:
a) how logical the puzzle seems
b) how creative or unexpected (but still sensible) is the use of elements
c) how satisfying is the solution (Is it too simple? Way too complicated? Or just right?)

Entries accepted through September 14th.

Have fun!

Hints & Tips / Hoopoe's Inferno

Nice graphics. I can't believe all the other animals chill out and only think about eating while the forest is burning...selfish gluttons

I'm stuck:
Spoiler
the turtle is still hungry after I gave it some honey and a worm.

The bear and the beaver told me about a moose but I can't visit it yet

NEAR YOU

This month, please draw a background showing a landmark, city, famous person, etc. representing approximately where you live.

Deadline: March 24th July 1st

As usual the entries will be judged on:
- Concept: your background should tell us something about the kind of patrons that regularly visit the bar.
- Playability: does it have clear walkable areas, things to interact with, etc?
- Artistic Execution: what's the feeling of the place? Does the image convey the wanted atmosphere?

Have fun and good luck!

The topic was lifted from the Background Blitz suggestion thread.

I've played for about 15 minutes.

Lots of explosions and items to pick up so far.

Spoiler
I'm trying to hack the keypad of the door to the office.
I zapped it with the stun gun and used my Hacklink on it.
But I'm a bit confused by the hacking mini-game.
I'm supposed to "align the green pathways so that they form a continuous route from one side of the Hacklink screen to the other."

Since there's no horizontal green connection between the 3rd and 4th circuits, I guessed the green line on top joins the green line at the bottom. But this combination doesn't work. What am I missing?

CRAZY PERSPECTIVE

For this Background Blitz let's forget about character integration.
Curve the lines, cheat with the vanishing point and other geometrical laws if you want, but show us an unusual perspective.

Deadline: 16th of November 2023.

Voting criteria:

- Concept: your background should tell us something about the place you have depicted.
- Audacity of perspective
- Artistic Execution: does the image convey the wanted atmosphere? What's the feeling of the place?

For this Background Blitz, let's try something unusual.

There won't be a written theme or visual cues.
Your only source of inspiration will be this music by Roald Strauss (MisthaLu on Discord):

https://indiegamemusic.com/diskspace/mr_lou/Dreamer160kbps.mp3

Now, imagine this song in a game and give us the background that comes with it. Have fun!

Deadline: August 12th, 2023.

Voting criteria:
- Concept: Your background should tell us something about the place you have depicted.
- Playability: does it have clearly defined walkable areas, things to interact with, etc?
- Artistic Execution: does the image convey the wanted atmosphere? What's the feeling of the place?

Disclaimer: All music at Indie Game Music is free to download and listen to. But you need to pay a license fee (or request a freeware license) if it is actually used in a production.

TOYS

For this new Sprite Jam, let's get timely.

I want you to draw me a toy, be it a mere object or a full-fledged character.

The sprite jam will last until the 15th of January, followed by a week of voting.

Hints & Tips / Highland Spirit
Sun 04/12/2022 18:23:14
Here I am - stuck in the highlands with you:
I managed to perform 2 tasks out of 3. Got the relic and proof of love.
Still looking for the signet ring. I know roughly where it is and got rid of the tourist.
Spoiler
Probably need some kind of metal detector? Didn't see any at Aladdin's cave. I could probably bargain with the shopkeeper if I had Denis Wyness' autograph. I tried to trace it with toilet paper and pencil but Becky won't let me do it...

B A R    R E S T A U R A N T

Public places to eat, drink and socialize, bars and restaurants can be a mine of information for the visiting adventurer.

Your background this month must include a bar and/or a restaurant in the broad sense of the words. Think inn, sushi bar, pizzeria, high-altitude restaurant or any joint where people gather to chill out.

Usual voting criteria:
Concept: What is the background about? What sort of mood does it spark? What is, as it were, the big idea?
Playability: What is its opportunity for gameplay like? Walkable areas, hot-spots, and so forth?
Artistic Execution: How well does the picture convey an atmosphere? How well is it executed?

Feel free to include the patrons and bartender or not.

Deadline for the submissions: 6th October 2022.

SPRITE JAM: ANIMATION

Dozens Thousands of characters have been created in the sprite jams over the years.
Yet they remain immobile assets of fictional games that we're left to imagine.

For this jam, I'd like to see some ACTION.

It can be a simple speech view, a complex walkcycle, or whatever comes to your mind.

Preferably, take one of your previous sprite jam creations and make it come to life.

Never entered a sprite jam before? You can find a sprite to animate in the Treasure Trove or the Reality-on-the-Norm ressources.

You'll only be judged on the appeal of your animation, not the chara-design.

Deadline: April 1st.

Move it now!

EDIT: any animation made this month is allowed.

STATION - DOCK

Many adventures will have you embark on a journey to a faraway land. To get there, you often need some kind of public transportation. Saying goodbye on a dock or experiencing a surprising welcome in a station can help build emotional stakes. This month, please draw me one of those places.

Deadlines
Open till March 6th
Voting till March 13th

Voting criteria
Concept: your background should tell us something about the place you have depicted.
Playability: does it have clearly defined walkable areas, things to interact with, etc?
Artistic Execution: does the image convey the wanted atmosphere? What's the feeling of the place?

SPRITE JAM - CAT

That's it. Just draw me a CAT.
Because...reasons...[insert cool statement about cats being around since Ancient Egypt and a popular web search]

Guidelines:
No size, palette or style limitations.

Deadline: Sunday, the thirty first of January twenty twenty-one

Open vote after the deadline.

BACKGROUND BLITZ - TRASH

Dumps appear in a surprising number of adventure games.
Maybe because many point and click heroes are unrepenting scavengers?

Yet landfills/ junkyards would certainly be one of the last choice of scenery for an artist.
Sure, it's easy to have a forest or a castle look beautiful. But how do you make an heteroclite amount of discarded things look nice or simply readable?

The location is a staple of SF but nothing prevents you from showing us earlier polluted places.

Deadline: Sunday, October 11th.
Voting criteria:
Concept - your background should tell us something about the place you have depicted.
Playability - does it have clearly defined walkable areas, things to interact with, etc?
Artistic Execution - does the image convey the wanted atmosphere? What's the feeling of the place?

Let's get trashing.

Poor Vince and Gus. Their parents have been abducted by pirates!

Features:
- Pretty pixels (320*180)
- Glorious 8bit chiptunes.

The game currently contains three small episodes with different types of gameplay.:

EPISODE 1 - released in November 2019 - Point & click

EPISODE 7 - released in March 2020 - Mouse shooter

EPISODE 12
- NEW - Pitfall-like?

Although Flugeldufel sailed to new horizons after the release of the first episode, I still work on the series from time to time.

Special thanks to Abstauber who allowed me to use his gorgeous picture from the November 2019 background blitz in the 12th episode.

Progress:
I have another episode in the making. After that, I don't know.
Don't expect all the loose ends to be tied up eventually. I concentrate on delivering a fun and varied experience.

It's been a long time since I've been able to access my sent items on the messaging board.

Not that I really need to but I thought I'd let you know.

Hello,

I've added a game to the database.

There's only one link to a Windows version on Gamejolt so I didn't check any of the Linux, MacOS, Android or iOS boxes.

However, if you click on the "download" button, every possible version appears.

I didn't notice that with the other games. Did I make a mistake?

You're trapped with an amnesic psychopath.
Can you fool his suspicious mind?

GAME PAGE

WARNING: contains bad language

Kastchey and I conceived this game for the MAGS competition March 2019 on the theme "glass of water".

It was done in half a month. Many things were lacking or unpolished.

Therefore, the game is updated to provide a better experience:
- added animations.
- removed many bugs.
- fixed the timers.
- reworked the difficulty.
- better indications.
- french translation.

The plot is left unchanged.

Good luck!
