- I'm a bit disapointed that James Cameron's AVATAR had only ONE Academy Award -- Best Special Effects -- But it was WELL deserved in my opinion.
What do you think?

- I found this link that explains that Hollywood hates James Cameron.

http://ca.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100123231903AAZDx8G

Any thoughts on this matter?

- Anybody planning to buy or at least rent AVATAR on BlueRay? I heard that cut pony-tail scene is one to watch - haha!

- I appreciated the allegory of Imperial / Industrial Colonialism meeting up with resistance from Natives.

Iron Man was awesome, Iron Man 2 looks great too!

Mickey Rourke as Whiplash! Wow! War Machine is in there, and the blond bombshell, what's her name? Anyway, her hair is dyed red to play Black Widow.

Looks exciting. Hope there's lots of fun comic book action going on.
I wonder if it will lead into The Hulk and The Avengers near then end?

My only quibbles so far, is the actor who is playing Tony's Partner. He's a really great actor,
don't get me wrong. I loved his role in Hotel Rwanda. I just feel, now this is just my personal view, Cuba Gooding Jr. could have filled the role better, he looks more like the previous guy.

Also, what happened to The Mandarin? He's like the Arch-Villian in the Iron Man Comic! What! Were they afraid to offend certain people because there is a villian named,

"The Mandarin" ?

What are your thoughts on this movie?
Opinions?

Scoop?

 ???

I recently installed Windows 7 Home Premium on my PC. So far, it's a really cool O.S.,

however...

I am unable to find the latest Driver to make my EPSON PERFECTION 1200U Scanner work!

I've checked the Epson Website, the latest Driver is for Windows XP! :(

Please give me some helpful advice on what do do with my EPSON PERFECTION 1200U Scanner.

Microsoft and Epson, I would REALLY appreciate your help in this regard!

I'm a part-time Graphic Designer, so I require the use of a Flat Bed Scanner.

I do not want to shovel up some more money to buy a new Scanner. I'm want to keep this one.

I would appreciate any helpful Video or Text Comments that you may have.

Just when I thought Star Trek Movies were getting as boring as Data on shore leave...

JJ Abrams' Star Trek saved my respect and excitement for Star Trek!

Woo! JJ Abrams claimed he wasn't even a fan of Star Trek, but, nonetheless, the creator of Lost, Fringe and Alias presented a fresh approach to the Legendary Sci-Fi Story.

Directing, Acting, Script, Special Effects and LOADS of ACTION makes this a movie to be respected!

What are you're opinions? What did you like/dislike in this movie?

I'll be back with more to say, I'm going to my food replicator for lunch now...

*  *  *

I would first like to thank everybody for your input! It's so encouraging to see Trek Fanatics like me!

I found the story quite (to quote Spock) "fascinating". The writers didn't succumb to a typical prequel movie, but

!!!SPOILER ALERT!!! developed the idea of a alternate time-line - with Nero and his Planet-Sucking-Ship, and all the main character's lives being dramatically altered. I liked how even though Kirk and Spock had terrible losses and traumas, they maintained the noble and heroic personalities we've grown to love in the original show.
!!!SPOILER ALERT!!!

!!!SPOILER ALERT!!!
Also, I just simply loved how the new Star Trek was ACTION PACKED. Not overly talky like TNG, DSN, VOYAGER, ENTERPRISE. And surely, not poorly directed like Star Trek V!
!!!SPOILER ALERT!!!

Me and my friends are excited about the sequel that should be coming!

Kirk out.

Here is a viral video series that I've started on my Vlog and Blog. I discuss how much I enjoy Maniac Mansion Deluxe.

Even if you don't think this video is very professional, you should at least find it amusing!  :)

UPDATE: Just to let everyone know, I was finally able to post my YouTube video instead of the Blog video...

Ok.

This is a Topic that's NOT on my Blog, and I'm not trying to promote ANYTHING this time. I just wanted to know something. Maybe my fellow AGS Members can shed some light on this matter:

What's with all the Brutally Violent Video Games out there?

I mean, COME-ON! Remember the good ole days of Atari. NES, SNES, SEGA, PC, Tandy - with fun characters and games like Pac-Man, Super Mario, Maniac Mansion, King's Quest, Sonic The Hedge Hog. Games that required skill and thought. Games that were generally safe for your kid or baby bro to play.

I mean, I'm not saying, stop making Brutally Violent Games like Halo , Call of Duty, and Grand Theft Auto... etc - I'm just saying, It seems they are making more and more of those kind of games, and less of more family-friendly games.

Am I the only guy here who notices that the Video Game Industry seems to preoccupied with brutality, gore, horror and mayhem?  Is it too much to ask for more nostalgic and happy games? Games that make you feel like you just stepped into a nostalgic arcade?

Or perhaps, the consumers share some responsibility, only being interested in those kind of games?

At least we've got games like Rock Band, Guitar Hero, NHL 2009, The Lego Series, etc...

That's just my rant. Whew.

1. You’re so bad at Contra, that after playing it with 30 lives and using all of the continues, you didn’t know that the game scrolled.

2. You’re so bad at Tetris: On two-player mode a guy can beat you with a controller that has broken left and right buttons.

3. You’re so bad at RPGs: When somebody asks you where you’re stuck, you say, “The file select screen.”

4. You’re so bad at Stack Up: You made ROB strangle you.

5. You’re so bad at Castlevania Adventure that you say you need a slow-motion controller to play it well.

6. You’re so bad at World Class Track Meet that by the time you finish the race, the turtle has reached the end of the stadium!

7. You’re so bad at Bomberman 64 that you can’t find the knight suit!

8. You’re so bad at Virtua Fighter that you can’t beat your initials.

Special thanks to http://members.tripod.com/sturat/disses.html for the great source material!

Have any Video Game Disses you would like to contribute?

At the Earth's Core by Edgar Rice Burroughs:

At The Earth's Core
(Book 1 in the Pellucidar Series)

At The Earth’s Core and it’s mysterious world of Pellucidar was first serialized in All-Story Weekly magazine in 1914.

With this series, Burroughs created a secret prehistoric world five hundred miles beneath the earth’s surface that has eternal daylight, prehistoric beasts and primitive people; where the horizon curves upward and time stands still under a miniature sun that stands motionless in the sky. Throughout this savage world are communities of warring tribes and one of Burroughs’ most fascinating creations, the highly evolved reptilian Mahars. (Note: a comprehensive glossary of all things Pelluciar starts on Page 87.)

David Innes and his inventor friend, Abner Perry, set out on a trial run in Perry’s invention, the iron mole, with hopes of locating new beds of anthracite coal. Once in motion, however, they are unable to change the prospector’s course and travel five hundred miles towards the center of the Earth.

Expecting to meet eternal fires, the two instead emerge into a new world. Attacked by a dyryth, carried off by apemen, and then captured by Sagoths, the gorilla-like servants of the Mahars, their weird adventures are nonstop.

As Innes and Perry and the beautiful Dian struggle to untie the primitive humans of Pellucidar they are confronted with enough adventures to keep the reader breathless as this amazing world unfolds.

Pellucidar by Edgar Rice Burroughs:

Pellucidar
(Book 1 in the Pellucidar Series)

Pellucidar appeared as a 5-part serial in All-Story Cavalier Weekly (which changed its name during the run to All-Story Weekly) May 1-29, 1915. The book was published Sept 5, 1923 by A.C.McClurg & Co.Picking up where the first adventure, At The Earth’s Core left off, Pellucidar tells the story of David Innes’ return to Inner Earth.

The iron mole departs from the Sahara Desert and emerges in an unknown region of the Earth’s core. There, Innes wanders through vast uninhabited regions in search of a man or tribe who can direct him to Sari, the capital of his fledgling kingdom.Innes saves Abner Perry, who was being pursued by Sagoths. With the goal of finding Dian the Beautiful One in Sari, the two cross the Mountains of the Clouds, narrowly surviving the cold, unforgiving landscape.

After many adventures they begin the task of modernization of Pelluciar. As adventure stories go, this second book in the Pellucidar series is perhaps a cut below the others. However, as a continuation of the series it carries the story forward to the new adventures in this essential series for all Burroughs fans. (Note: a comprehensive glossary of all things Pelluciar starts on Page 101.)

Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson:

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll1 and Mr. Hyde became an immediate best-seller in Great Britain and America when it was published in 1886. The novel has also earned accolades from the academic community for its artistic style and penetrating psychological themes.

In the first six months, 40,000 copies were sold. Queen Victoria read it. Sermons and editorials were written about it. The story is about a lawyer, Charles Utterson, who investigates the strange link the misanthropic man Edward Hyde has to his friend, Dr. Henry Jekyll. His investigation begins as a matter of curiosity and concern despite Jekyll’s assurances that Hyde is nothing to worry about.

That changes when Hyde is seen committing a savage murder of a respected Member of Parliament. As Utterson assists in the investigation of the crime, Jekyll becomes more and more reclusive and sombre as Utterson comes to believe that the doctor is aiding Mr. Hyde.

Compulsively readable from its opening pages, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is still one of the best tales ever written about the divided self. Stevenson’s concept, inspired by a nightmare, and the vivid language he uses to convey it, are what impress the most upon the reader.
