Critics' Lounge / Roleplaying characters
Tue 18/01/2005 15:33:24
As part of my "learning how to pixel"-process, i foun myself making a slew of characters from one the (pen and paper) roleplaying games I use to play, as if they were characters from an old nintendo-style RPG. I think they turned out quite alright.
Some of you may remember the two leftmost characters...I've pixelled them before when I was considering making a Monkey Island style adventure in the setting of the game. Those were of Monkey Island resolution though, which these clearly aren't...
But damn fun to make, especially their faces.

Just more training. I wanted to make some animation today, and so I did. It is of course not finished, this is just the blocking out. And as I needed a background for him, I threw one together also.

Anyone wanna come up with happens next? :)

More training sprites...my apologies to everyone, I don't how the hell THIS happened!

Heya all, I'm back again for a bit. Been quite a while once again, wonder if anyone even remembers me...heh.

My previous game projects have more or less gone stale on me, but now I'm starting training pixel art again since I may be getting a job making graphics for a whole series of roleplaying games for cellular phones soon, so I thought I'd better start training.
The graphics I'm gonna present in this thread  therefore actually don't have anyhing to do with AGS as such, even though anyone are welcome to use them if they want. And these graphics aren't gonna get used in the final games either; as I said, these are only for training.

But enough blathering, here are my first forays back into pixels:

Crits are of course always highly appreciated.

I think I will follow Neole's excellent example and start a thread for showing random art I make that is not game related. If you think I should pack up my shit and take it to an art board instead, just let me know, 'kay? :D

Anyways, here is the first pic: I made this for a roleplaying campaign I'm playing in. It's the character I'm currently playing...a 7'8'' green alien martial artist. What, you couldn't tell?
I made it using a mixture of photo manipulation and digital painting.

Hey guys...hope some of you still remember me...heh. It's been a while since I've posted anything, and it's because my fantasy project has been more or less scrapped. There was a number of reasons, but mainly because of problems between me and the guy who originally made the world the game was to take place in.
SO...I've started all over, new game, new setting...or more specifically, MY game, MY setting. Oh yes.
-----------
The game will take place during World War II, and will be sorta Indiana Jones-esque, but slightly more comic-book-over-the-top. It WON'T be another FoA (I wouldn't even dare trying to make something even resembling that, that game CAN'T be surpassed in my opinion.). The game will somewhat resemble old war movies in that it won't be historically correct in some places, and the characters will be very stylized, almost charicatures. I won't reveal any of the story yet, as it is still being thought out...

But here's draft one for the hero and one of his outfits...

Critics' Lounge / Some sketches
Thu 01/05/2003 12:55:01
No pixel-art this time, but some sketches done in the real world...
First a couple of incidental characters, that will probably be included in my game in one form or anaother. Anna the nurse, and the cook at the garrison, Papa Django.

Next, I've started taking up trying to learn to draw more realistically. This is the first of hopefully many more to come.

Thought I would try a few tests with some of the other characters...
A couple more character concepts for the game. Gabriel is the brother of the game's main character. One hell of a paladin, to say the least. Cherudek (the pic is not done, I just wanted to upload before I went to bed!!!) is a Dimling like the smith I uploaded earlier, but of a somewhat meaner demeanor...just don't tell him that, he'll rip your throat out. Heh.

EDIT: Updated pic of Cherudek Please note that it is still not done, it is only an update.

Well...following the advice of some of you good people, I went and altered the main character of m game to try and make him a little less Guybrushy. Lengthened his legs, altered his hair do, added sword and dagger, edited most of clothes a little, altered the general coloring. Hope you like.

Hey there!
I was wondering, could anybody tell me how I make an NPC perform a continuous series of animation loops, while still making it possible for the player character to move about? I've gotten as far as making the NPC do what he's supposed to, but the whole game goes in wait mode while he moves.
Thanks. :)

EDIT: Nevermind I found it out myself after some more tweaking. Sorry, mr. Moderator guy... ;)

Since my last post I have decided to keep the game in the good old 320x240 resolution. And here some preliminary character art for the local smith in the city our hero starts out in. Oh, did I mention the game takes place in a fantasy world...? :D
This is Grimosh, a nigh-on 3 meters tall Dimling. The Dimlings are a race of huge but somewhat dim-witted lion-men. Grimosh is a so-called low-lander; one of the Dimlings that have chosen to live together with the humans. Not the sharpest spoon in the drawer, Grimosh is an overall nice guy although he tends to be somewhat of a bully around his employees. And he will of course be animated in the final version. ;)

EDIT: ADDED QUICK ANIMATION TEST

Hey again...
As I am only just starting out on my game, I haven't quite decided on the resolution yet...on one hand I would like to do it in hires, so I can add a lot more detail, on the other hand I would like it to resemble the old school games as much as possible. Therefore I made this little test with my main character, the HERO (da-da-da-dum)  Angelo Ramirez. I can't really figure out which I like more. What do you think?

Hey there! My very first post on this forum...has only just discovered AGS, and it really seems like a great program!
So anyway, here's my first try at making the main character of my game...gentlemen, I give you Angelo Ramirez, part time hero, part time slob, full time womanizer. Now how's that for a hero!
I made him using a heavily modified Guybrush Threepwood (the one from Monkey Island II), and just went from there...made him taller, more buff and whatnot. Anyways, rip it apart, I need all the help I can get; this is my first venture into pixelart.

Cheers!

EDIT: Me dumb. I should of course have posted the pic I have of him in closeup. I made this for a roleplaying game I participate in...the adventure game I wanna make is actually built upon some of the story from this roleplaying game.
