Thank you, Sir Denby!

I built my first ever solo game over the last weekend, as part of the 10th anniversary of Ludum Dare, the world-wide game jam. I have fiddled with AGS in the past, but have never been able to see a project through. This time I did! The time limit placed a lot of restrictions on what I was able to do, but I actually really enjoyed trying to make something interesting within those constraints.

So, Purgatorio is a semi-autobiographical game that explores mental health issues through the lens of Dante's writings on sin. It fuses traditional point-and-click dialogue trees with a "room escape"-style game structure. And it stars what my girlfriend describes as "dirty penguins".

I'd be really interested to hear what the AGS community makes of it. After this, I'm definitely keen to make more AGS games (and will definitely continue to be rather experimental with them).

You can download the game via the Ludum Dare site, here: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-23/?action=preview&uid=9160

I'm also part of a small indie team, which you can find at http://seethroughstudios.com

Okay, that sounds straight-forward. I'll give it a try in the morning. Thanks!

Hi, I don't necessarily need detailed explanations yet, but I just want to know if it is possible to have the player character say something different to the dialog text that the player clicks on?

It is quite common for this to happen in the new Tales of Monkey Island episodes, and I have observed it occasionally in the older SCUMM games. I plan to make quite a lot of use of it in my game, but it would be really helpful to know if it is possible and if so whether it is a very complex operation.

I have done a search but haven't been able to locate any relevant topics.

Thanks.

I guess that's a "no". Oh well, I have found the threads you mention and I should be able to do it manually. Cheers.

I may have posted this in the wrong forum-- sorry!

Hi,

I've just started work on my first game. AGS seems like just the tool for what I want to do, but I'm not keen on the default template. The verb-coin suits me a bit better, but what I'd really prefer is "left-click use/right-click look" interface. Now I've read through the FAQs and wiki and discovered a couple of templates that are supposed to do just that (The "AGS Left and Right Click Open Source" template and the "Beneath a Steel Sky" template). I've put these templates into the "Templates" folder, but they don't show up when I try to create a new game. I assume this is a backwards compatibility issue, as both appear to be quite old.

So my question is: Is there any was to make these older templates work with the current version of AGS, or alternatively, is there a more recent template floating around that has the same basic function?

I realise that it would be possible to script it myself, but I don't yet have much experience with the scripting tool and would rather focus on creating the graphics and text for my project.

Thanks!
