I know this is from looooooong ago, but... anyone gave this issue further consideration?

Gamepad support could be very handy, since modern pads have 8+ buttons AND the direction keys, which could mean that you can have many actions just in the pad, with no need for a GUI at all, and you could have a big game screen with a full background (I'm thinking the 1024x768 resolution, wich is the maximum that AGS supports, but if it was ever scaled up, it'll look even better.)

In my case, i have a PS2 gamepad hooked to an USB adaptor. I get 4 directions and 12 buttons in digital mode, and 4 directions, 12 buttons and 2 analog joysticks in the analog mode. I could have the 9 basic SCUMM commands, plus main menu, inventory, and game log buttons. I think it could be really handy.

Greetings,

After reading the documentation, i wasn't sure if it'll work well under linux, so i decided to give it a try. Since maybe someone can benefit from my experience, thought that i'd post the procedure here. It's quite simple (i'm not exactly a linux guru), and it's tested and (it seems) fully functional in my Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala):

1) Install wine from synaptic.
2) Open terminal, and insert this lines one by one to install winetricks, .NET 2.0, and the fake iExplorer:
               > wget http://kegel.com/wine/winetricks
               > sh winetricks corefonts dotnet20
               > sh winetricks fakeie6
3) Install AGS. Should run sweet. (I didn't have any major problem)

First time I tried, i got some problems installing AGS on wine 1.2 (the new beta), then i removed it all and tried again on the stable version (which is marked like "wine" in synaptic), installed dotnet, installed AGS without a single problem, and then upgraded wine from the regular version to the 1.2. Works like a charm.

Hope this is useful to anywone willing to create adventure games under linux.  ;)
