My diary, 28th November 2001

"I have done my first test game with AGS 2.21. That's so cool! Damn, I wish I had found this AGS website much earlier. The members of that community have such a giant headstart! Look at all these great games! King's Quest I VGA, Quest for Glory 4 ½, Pleurghburg, Night of the Hermit and that Yathzee just released his third Rob Blanc game! They can draw backgrounds, make music and know how to program all these games! I don't even know how to make a door between two rooms! They are gods, hey ARE the Elite. And I'm just a bloody beginner. I hate them."

A while ago I read a study which claimed that all this hate and self-flagellation among Sierra gamers are the consequences of a childhood trauma caused by frustrating dead-end situations, bad puzzle design and an extensive use of savegames!!Ã,  :o

QuoteThe heroine should remind you of Zanthia actually.

Maybe a little bit too much. Try to change her face a little bit or people might think it's an Kyrandia sequel. Here are two examples.

The KQ1 and KQ2 remakes were definitely substitutes, but got away with it because Vivendi apparently doesn't want to annoy the remaining Sierra fans. Or maybe they just don't really care. Or maybe their lawyers are all looking forward to QFG2+.

Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark

Story

It is 1936. Archaeology professor Indiana Jones is recruited by the US government to find the Lost Ark of the Covenant, which once contained the tablets upon which the Ten Commandments were written. The Ark, according to legend, has vast power that will make any side that possesses it invincible and the American government wants to find it before The Nazis. Indiana goes to Nepal to meet his old girlfriend Marion Ravenwood who has the medallion that leads to the location of the Ark. Hotly pursued, they travel to Cairo in a race to be the ones to find the Ark before the Nazis do.

We did use TTFs but they are still limited to 256 characters in AGS. So it won't make a difference.

"Ach du liebste Schwartzwald!"

Hehe, sounds funny! What language is this? ;)

On this site you can get the first two shows about AGS and its games now. They have a small and a large version for each. The downloads may have a waiting loop. The first show was mainly about AGS (and how you can crash itÃ,  ;) ) , the second about fangames (Broken Sword 2.5, FOY, Simpsons, MMM…)

Quoteso did anyone record it?

AGS at Giga Games.zip (AVI, 57 MB, very bad quality)
AGS at Giga Games (DVD).zip (VOB, 914 MB)

Next Sunday (17.04.) they will present the AGS-site (again) and some fan games. I've read something about Fountain of Youth , Baphomet's Fluch 2.5, a Simpsons Fangame, MMM and their own AGS creation: Giga Mansion.

QuoteI've never heard of NBC Europe, is it a German general entertainment channel?

Yes, and it was VERY entertaining!Ã,  :D

To whom it may concern...

Giga Games, Sundays 10.04. & 17.04.
22:00 Berlin (GMT + 1)

I've read they will show the engine, tutorials, etc. Furthermore some of the moderators will try to create an own, short AGS-adventure.Ã,

C'mom, Helm. You know what I mean.

Btw... some more quotes from our friend.
He's cute, isn't he? Check out the JA-board. It's full of great entertainment!Ã,  ;)

Agustin: Maybe claiming that Other Worlds was one of the best adventures, commercial or non-commercial, of 2004 was stretching things a bit too far.

alkis21: Ã,

Ogre: I just downloaded the game and played it for 30 minutes or so (with speakers out) and gained 48 points, so not very far into it, but I also think the text is pretty amateurish/non-literate.

alkis21: The way I see it, there is a difference between critisism and heckling. Ogre is a heckler of the worst kind, he's not after a discussion, he's looking for a fight, because that's obviously his only way of getting some attention to his pathetic existence.

Quote from: MrColossalDo you know what it's like to spend a long long time on a game and then finally get it done?

So I suppose you do, right?

Quote from: ProblemI just had the impression that he acted as if it was the most important thing.

Hehe, yeah. Not just you. I did follow his “promotion-tour” at JA's forums for a while and I think it was just a matter of time until he brings it over here. I don't want to comment his masterpiece but he's definitely a great entertainer. Some of my favourite quotes:

QuoteMy intention was to create the best amateur freeware game ever

QuoteI just added Other Worlds in the 'Full Length Games' section of the AGS site:
<http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?category=1&page=2>
When you all complete the game, I'd appreciate some votes.

QuoteShany: Hey alkis, I started playing your game and it crashed after I tried…
Alkis21: Damn Shany, you're bad publicity for me!

QuoteAnd by the way, whoever finishes the game, please take some time to vote in the AGS site (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk)
* yup, we are still the same thread *lol*

QuoteThis is going better than anything I had imagined.. already reached 500 downloads since Wednesday!Ã,  Ã, According to my site's statistics, I've had visits from countries like China and Singapore!

QuoteThe 1000 downloads pinacle is long gone (1119) after less than two weeks since release date. All five continents are accounted for, people from 63 countries have gotten the game so far. Most were from the United States, some of the other countries: Australia, China, Hong Kong, Brazil, Israel, Singapore, Lithuania, Indonesia, Philippines, Gibraltar, South Africa, Senegal and one Mexican!

QuoteJust wanted to let everyone know that Other Worlds was reviewed in a PC Master magazine (Greece) and got an 85%.

QuoteHere's a really negative one from the Czech Republic, it's a good thing I don't understand what it says as it got a 55%.

Don't get me wrong. I don't want him to stop or anything. I LOVE to read posts like these. :D

Adventure Related Talk & Chat / AGS toplist
Tue 15/03/2005 11:14:13
Hallo. Does there exist a toplist for ags games? Yesterday I found this litte toplist for some german adventure projects and I think it would be fun to have something similar for ags titles, especially since many here would like to have a civilized way to promote their games.

PS.: Oh, before someone asks... no I'm not able to develop such a thing. But maybe someone else knows how this stuff works?

QuoteIMHO, your problem is pimping - you use every opportunity to talk about your game. I know, I was the same.

How about a Best pimping category? Btw, Alkis... your game is one of the best, if not the best adventure game of 2004 and 3rd best Independent adventure game ever!!! Give other games a chance, too. You don't need this little award.

Quotekind of hommage to Silent Hill, with a bit more of humor.

Nice graphics and good puzzles but I think some of the funny comments destroy the horror feeling. Maybe you should make it more serious.

Btw.: Does the saw have a function? I tried to dismember some of the dead bodies but without much success.Ã,  ;)

Why didn't Vel use his own screen name? (j/k)Ã,  ;)
